Well made video, very straight forward and informative. It’s funny how people talk crap on the cvt transmissions. I have 160,000 miles on my 2015 civic and I beat the living piss out of it every day. Maintenance is key!!

Yeah I thought the same until 177 and it slipped like a MF’r I’m praying I get lucky and fill it with the correct fluid but not going to get my hopes up

You could of filled it from the top with a long funnel you filled in thru the check plug

Bro this transmission have 2 filter, one inside of pan and another filter is behind the small transmission radiator

Accept using a pump isn't part of the procedure. You just get a funell and at the fluid to the fill hole. From the top of the engine compartment. Just poor it in. And honda recommends replacing the plug when serviced because the rubber wares out by then usually. This video made it seem like it was more work then it was. Running it hot and checking doesn't do much unless your running dexose also. Honda fluid is clear and doesn't expand like dexron. But I guess if you like extra work.

I find this video a good and useful reference. I'm currently much more involved in a Large scale project with my wife's car which is exactly the same car in this video. Started with grinding brakes, found a bad CV shaft, which ended up getting some of the fluid out so I figured I'd do the fluid change cuz it was due Anyway. I did it about 60,000 mi ago with the small filter. So this time I'm doing both filters and the pan gasket. I only bought 4 quarts of fluid but I feel like it's not going to be enough to fill the whole thing.

Helpful and informative video! Only wired thing I had was my tranny just dripping after i did the final open to let drain check... I come back an hour later and theres 1/2 quart of oil that drained out when I emptied my drain pan. Car was level so kinda odd and makes me worried since I put in right under 3qts before it started spilling out.

Thank you for the video! I have been searching for hours for a Honda Civic LX 2015 transmission dipstick and could not find it, low and behold - it's a plug. Since it's a plug, how do you know when you have a low amount of fluid or if it needs to be changed? Do you just put in the amount listed and hope for the best?

It's full when the fluid reaches the bottom of the check/fill bolt on the front of the transmission.

What was the fill check bolt washer part number at 7:01? Comparing the drain plug washer and fill bolt washer shows there is a difference.

Just flushed transmission fluid on my 2015 Honda Civic. Change only gets 4qts of contaminated oil out. Flush gets all contaminated contaminated fluid out. Why mix new with old contaminated fluid??

I personally wouldn't. especially since it's a cvt. It's really just a gamble at that point.

Change it. Cvts are extremely different than the old style 5 speeds with actual gears. Cvt fluid change is only beneficial no matter the miles or intervals as long as it's done correctly with the right fluid from honda.

Do a flush and get all the fluid out. Don't mix new fluid with old.

How critical Is it if you use the same washer?

It's not the most critical thing, it's best practice to change it, but you can get away with not if you can't get one.

very nice video, when you check the oil, are you lifting the car again? not sure how you can get underneath without lifting the car. Crazy there is not just a dipstick to check, I guess that is the new technology at work. Cheers

Does the car need to be level or can all this be done with it on ramps?

If setting the level using the overflow method you would need to be level.

Excellent video! Can you let me know the 2 washers I need to get for the change? If you happen to have the Honda P/N's I'll get them at the dealership (about 1/2 mile from our house. Do you think this should be done every 50,000 miles? I missed it an the car has about 70,000 on it. It's a 2015 EX sedan. Love the car and want to keep it in good shape.

The strainer assembly 25420-5T0-003 is not typically considered a maintenance item if proper maintenance schedules are followed.

theres a fill plug hole on top of the cvt to poor the fluid in. not sure if you knew this

Shouldn't be any problem with it, if the forces from getting into a car would make it fall it wasn't safe to begin with.

Did you ended up using the 4 bottles of CVT transmission fluid? Mine took the entire 4 bottles, I’m not sure if I overfilled it

I took mine to the shop this weekend & they charged me for 5 bottles… I came here looking to see how many bottles it really takes cuz I hope they didn’t just charge me for all 5 if they didn’t use all of them from the shipment

@@alexabernhardt2856 if you have a 2012-2015 Honda Civic with the 1.8L engine then yes, they definitely overcharged you and you should definitely place a complain and get your money back because it only takes about 4 bottles, anything over that is overfilled and bad for your transmission. You can also find this information on Google. You should definitely have complain

It takes 3 full bottles and 3/4 of the last bottles. I change mine every 100.000km

Idk about that because mine started to come out the over fill on 3 bottles and like a quarter of the 4th which seemed on point for the amount and then after cycling the gears I used the whole rest of the 4th bottle with the check hole off again and it drank the whole rest of the 4th bottle without it leaking out again ? I didn’t have a 5th bottle to fill it till it dripped again but I hope that was enough ??

Assuming this CVT has a converter, how much of the total fluid do you think is replaced in this procedure? Half perhaps?

Honda says it takes a little over 6 quarts to fill after a full overhaul, so you're changing a little over half of the total fluid.

I think it still had the regular automatic transmission in 2013 and 14/15 have the CVT. I don't know if there's a big difference between the two in driving or reliability. I would stay away from 2012 though because the interior feels super cheap.

Nothing wrong with them unless you can’t get past not feeling a shift point when you drive. Some manufacturers actually programmed fake shift points into their vehicles because people “needed” them.
