I'd take this over a Escalade or Suburban any day. These are built on Merc chassis and you can tell dodge didnt scrimp on interior materials either.

I do admit I'm not a big fan of trucks in the sector of the market but I do think Dodge have hit a sweet spot with the styling here. Its not all soccer mom and its not looking like its trying to hard to be something its not. I even like the asl black interior. LOL!

I'm curious about the 8 speed gearing. I drove 2015 ram and that 1st gear is really tall it shifts to second at about 17mph. Others I've driven with 6 plus gears shift around 10mph to second gear. Makes me think this is why the Durango RT gets low city mpg.

Question: I am looking at the Durango and need to tow a boat. I am worried that the RWD doesn't have a limited slip rear end for slippery launch ramps. I don't really want to spend the extra $$ on the AWD. How is the RWD going to do on the boat ramp? I don't want to get stuck, or slide down the ramp due to no traction. Thanks (The dealer had no clue)

I have the rallye black top edition with 6 and I love it ..I get 26 highway @85mph with 20.5 combine city /highway..the 6 has plenty of power and look just like the rt...and it was $33k

How's the 2013 Durango RT with the 6 speed auto? I'm considering getting one but I don't know. I know the 8 speed is good because I have a newer Ram that has it.

I recently got the Rallye trim, which is the same as the R/T in exterior appearance, but with the V6. While it doesn't have the roar the Hemi has, it's a very nice ride and accelerates comfortably. Spent 10 hours in it last week driving to the coast, and all my passengers were very comfortable and had lots of space. Plus 26mpg on the highway at 75mph is great for an AWD that can tow 6200 lbs. People really like the aggressive and chromeless look of the vehicle, too. With below invoice pricing and incentives, it has a surprisingly low price point compared to the R/T and other vehicles in its class. Lots of vehicle for the money.

Black on black is a very GOOD choice for interior. It's make paying attention to the road much easier. That's where you need your attention anyway, right? RIGHT? I agree on the knob for the gears. If they were going to do that, at least put the knob on the dash and open up the center console with a storage bin or something more usable.

Thanks for mentioning the interior color. This is especially an issue for people who have visual impairments. You literally can't see anything inside the vehicle. It seems that dark colors are all you can get anymore. So sad.

when I saw the R/T badge and the 51K price I mentally assumed it was the 6.4L Hemi.... well... got disappointed.

I like the interior because its mostly black and not full of bright colors, i find it more mature i guess.

One of the best looking SUVs out there but 51k??

I couldn't disagree more on the rotary shift knob. I've had one for 3 years now in my RAM and LOVE it. I wish they mounted the one on the Durango on the dash like they do the truck, but space is minimal. I like the amount of room it frees up in my RAM and how it's intuitive to use unlike other methods used on electric transmissions (i.e.:BMW). I love an all black interior too. This seems pretty similar to my RAM Sport. I'm looking to lease an R/T in place of my 2013 RAM which has been without fault.

Ok first off. $50K price tag is with every option available on this truck. Most people will not need all of it. Second if you are paying MSRP for any car/truck you need to get your head checked. I challenge anyone to find a vehicle in this class with everything loaded at this price tag. I personally been in the SUV market for a few months and was ready to pull the trigger on a Buick Enclave until I happen to casually test drive a Durango R/T at a car show. Now the Durango cannot hold a candle to the interior of the enclave but in every other aspect it has it beat. I couldn't care less about the dial, yes it does getting used to but please this not a stick shift. You will only be using the dial every so often. Interior, while I am OK with black on black, more options couldn't hurt. The Citadel has some nice options. I bought a 2014 Dodge Durango R/T AWD just like this review and as a matter of fact in the same color with every possible option (Tech,Dvd,Tow,Nav, Sunroof, Nappa) under the sun except an Engine block heater ..lol for $45K. Sticker was $52K. I just took it cross country and put in 2K miles under a few days and it was a blast. As per mileage I averaged a lil over 22MPG on the highway and Combined city/highway I get about 17MPG which isn't bad for a 5,000 lbs truck. My Biggest complain is lack of storage space in the front. There is none. This is even more of an issue if you get the Blu ray player option since they put the player in the center console, taking up all the space.

durango hemi or grand cherokee hemi?

Well apparently every one on these comments does not like Dodge. But Dodge has always been an underdog brand from my understanding. I see everybody crying over the 50k price tag. The real R/T starts at 39K or 40K and it already comes properly equipped. But the price starts to go up once you start to add dual screen blue-ray players, nappa leather, towing package, safety technology package, etc... I dont think Chevy or Ford offer these options. Maybe the leather, towing and captains chairs but that is about it.

I LOVE my Durango, there are a couple things that bother me though. First, there's no way to check the transmission fluid in the engine bay, second that knob to change gears is annoying! I wish they would've put the shifter from the Challenger in it's place. Third, the rear view mirror feels too small for the size of the vehicle and it creates a lot of blind sports. I bought a longer mirror at an auto parts store and it made a hell of a difference. Fourth, the steering wheel, although nice looking and feels nice to the touch it feels a tad small for a truck. They are trying to make it feel like a sports car when it's an SUV, not cool Dodge! Finally, I have the 2wd version and in the winter the rear slips out a lot! I wish I would have bought the AWD version because of this and Dodge really needs to do something about the traction control on this car 2wd version because it sucks. I just wish they made an offroad version that sits higher with the V8 and A/T tires. This would make this truck so much better.

The tail lights look big, but turn on your hazards and brakes in this vehicle and you'll find that they illuminate at the white area in red LEDs not the red area, where the tail lights illuminate. The reverse light is always located on the tailgate, which is also white. I don't know why Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango do something like this with their tail lights, like have 4 reverse lights, when you only need 2 on a Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Almost placed an order for the Durango R/T a few months ago. I like the style and space this crossover provides. However, the dealer said that I have to wait 6 months for the new 2014 model to come to our country. That's a real bummer. I would go for the previous generation model but they don't have the colour that I wanted. I guess this generation's Durango is not for me.

I also agree, I do not like the rotary dial for the transmission. Dodge is going with the bad ass look, but with the dial, that look is lost. The dial is for those people that are not really bad assess and need the computer to shift for them. Also, the practicality is lost; I want to be able to control the gears. Even though there are paddles, sometimes paddle shifting is not safe.

Backwards me, I buy what I want, and then watch reviews. I'm a racer(not a rich one) with a wife and newborn baby. One vehicle to satisfy as much as possible. And I was dumb enough to trade in an ss trailblazer in '11 for a cruze(didn't think a kid was coming), but the Durango is better in many ways. I'm usually a chevy guy, but that hemi does sound and run good. My only problem.... I'm starting to see them everywhere :-P

Ahh, so your main issue with the Durango is that you don't like the rotary dial on the transmission because you'd rather grab on to a hard stick, huh? :P And if you want an interior that comes in something other than black, you have to go for the luxury Citadel, not the R/T.

The yukon/tahoe/suburban is a much better choice in my opinion. More expensive but you get way more quality more power better fuel economy and more space. Its nice but this thing is really thirsty and its really not that big for the mpg's it gets.

I have the 05 Durango limited with the hemi . And even mine and the 1st gen look better than the 2014 , it got more boxy , smaller and for 50k that's too much for a weak design. If I had 50k right now I'd rather just get a srt chally or charger. And I agree with the hockey puck for the transmission , they should've kept the handle.

16mpg combined is "not too bad"? But 14mpg city is "not so good"? Wrong. Both those numbers suck and could be better. At what point will we, as consumers, demand that fuel efficiency standards improve. Though, as counterpoint, if you have the $51k to spare to buy this car, you should also have the cash to keep filling its gas-guzzling maw. I'd buy the 6-cylinder.
