If anyone is still referencing this video, I have some additions. First, thank you Jaw for posting it in the first place. It helped me out huge. As for the additions, there are 2 10mm nuts that will drop the air bag assembly on the driver side. This will give you much better access to the stupid locking clip holding the motor from rotating. It will also give you better access to turn the motor to get it out.

Been wrenching my whole life, and professionally for 19 years, this was probably in top 5 of most aggravating jobs ive done. Wish I would have seen video before I did this job. Took me 4hr and extended warranty only pays "book time" of 2.4hr. Ford manual says installation of screws may require use of mirror and a magnetic socket. Never have I ever seen magnetic torx sockets. Manual also never says to remove glove box, which was a HUGE help. The screws on the air inlet I loosened to hanging on by a hair and picked out with magnet. Putting them back in I put tape on them and jammed into bit, and still felt lucky they went back in without falling out of the bit. The lower one closest to firewall I used bore scope to see. I wouldnt do this job again for less than 6hr labor.

No wonder foreign vehicles became really popular over the past couple of decades. My girlfriend's dad convinced her to get a 2014 Ford Escape because he's always loved Ford but he's never owned one later than a 2002. These vehicles are a pain in the ass to fix nearly anything. Thank you for making this video!

Thanks for this video, it’s a very similar process on a Transit Connect Van, which thankfully doesn’t have that gold bracket with the hidden screw. I used a borescope to see the T20 recirc cage screws by the firewall, worked great. I also needed a ball-end T20 to get the top screw; of the four different length T20 options I had, none of them could get a straight shot at it. I magnetized my ball end T20 and it was enough to get the screws out/in without dropping them. I also used a hook pick to turn and disengage the fan from the driver’s side (pull on fan rib, push clip up, pull on rib again). I used a long flat screwdriver to rotate and lock the fan in place once it was inserted (working by myself). This is a real PITA job but seeing it done beforehand was priceless. It would have taken me hours longer to figure it all out on my own. Cheers! 🍻

Seriously , thank you for this video. My daughter purchased a 2016 and the blower was shaking the car apart even on low. This video was extremely helpful , the little screws on the blowe are a nightmare to get to, the reverse facing bolt on the gold panel would not come out with bending the panel but that was all in the video. Turns out there was a long dead mouse in the motor just spinning round and round , took it out , cleaned it up and all is good. 2.1/4 hours all in from start to finish

For the future to clean the blower cage out you can get to inside of it by removing the wiper cowl. Once out of the way theres just enough room for your arm to get in there 👍

@@littleredsport5806 Thanks !!! Pulling out of Wal*Mart in the 2013 Escape, loaded with Thanksgiving day groceries, and this horrific banging and shuddering started coming out of the dash under the windshield. Agghhh ! Pulled over, nope, not the belt. Got home, pulled the F10 fuse to verify it was the blower and it stopped. Found this fantastic video, and your comment which saved the day. Pulled the cowl, just enough length of my arm to reach under the windshield from the passenger side and was able to spin the blower cage. Got a shopvac hose in there, and found a mouse in the canister. Whoopee, don't have to pull the blower and one dead male mouse who gets the Darwin award from me today.

I had to change the battery on my escape at 6 pm in a snowstorm in an autozone parking lot with no tools. That was when I learned that you have to take the windshield wipers off, to take the shroud off, to be able to access the battery fully to be able to remove/install it. A battery swap should take 5 minutes, not an hour. Ford is so dumb.

The main bracket will drop off then its easy to get to the one one the backside. I also pulled my battery cable off as i was disconecting the bcm. And airbag actuator ( round silver metal piece on the underside of dash held on with 4 nuts. ) wich i removed for better access to the bracket but may not have been neccesary. Thank god for my inspection cam those screws were hard to find by feel.

Can you please explain where these 2 large headed 25 or 27 torx screws are? I'm about to replace my blower motor and I'm afraid I'm going to get stuck at this part of the process... My guess is that you can't release the actuator & cage without first removing the brass colored bracket(???). Side note: I attempted this during the summer and released the "hockey puck" shaped passenger airbag..but got stuck at this part in the process. I ended up replacing the resistor on the driver's side and the blower motor worked fine...which I assumed that's what the problem was. But....blower motor is now dead in the winter...and I need heat. 🤦‍♂️ ...... ......Any way to show via pic how this brack gets off, and then drop the link to the pic either here...or in the main comments??? Thank you SOOOoooo MUCH in advance for your support! ☺️🙏✨💯

Video huge help. Disconnect the power. You can access the bolt on the bracket behind the glove box with a stubby ratchet wrench. Mark the blower fan on the new assembly and lock it up with a screwdriver. The motor only locks in 1 way and it is a pain to line up if not marked. Could be a 15 minute job if it were designed to come out the driver's side. DUH.

If you're going to attempt this PLEASE DISCONNECT THE BATTERY before doing this job. Messing with BCM and air bag module are big no-no's when there is power running through the vehicle. You could get lucky, but you could also get very unlucky and short something out, have an airbag go off, etc. Better safe than sorry!
