Nice, I just recieved a refurb this morning. At first I thought I paid a bit too much, it's just the 8G model which will do fine for my use, but when I opened the box I was pleasantly surprised to find they had sent the Magic Mouse 2 and keyboard 2 along as a bonus! That happens never!

I have a 2014 Mac Mini and it’s served me well. I’ve been working from home for over two years and I know you mentioned Final Cut Pro and DaVinci working fairly on the 2014 mini. I’m a editor and ive used adobe premiere 2019 and Avid media composer and haven’t had any issues, mainly due to the fact i edit animation and storyboard animatics. Nonetheless, this is a good computer and I plan on turning it I to a home server. Thanks for the video.

I have Mac Mini 2014, i7 3ghz, 16GB, 1TB ssd (nvme). Running Monterey. works great. Even for photoshop and indesign (although it does stutter under heavy graphics), and by that I mean in 1 out of 20 projects. The built-in RAM is incredibly efficient, much more than when you use add-on chips. I can have 10+ apps open, and a dozen internet tabs all at once, no slowdowns.

This is my favorite Apple device ever. I have three of these, paid around $100 each. They've been upgraded with an updated 2tb sata drive and a 2tb m.2 ssd (with adapter). Enable File Sharing, enable Screen Sharing, download Jump Desktop and client. Hands down, best external wifi drive for all my iOS devices and M1 MacBook Air; shared drives just show up in Finder. Maybe once a year I'll plug in a monitor if I really messed something up, otherwise I'll just use Screen Sharing (Jump Desktop if I'm away). What's really great is if I take the Mac Mini to a cafe with public wifi, plugging in an iPad with a lightning cable, or my MacBook with ethernet or thunderbolt with adapter/converter, lets me use VNC Viewer or Screen Share and gives me access the Mac Mini's desktop so I can connect to public wifi. If I need to, I can SSH and use restart command to reboot (sometimes Screen Share doesn't cooperate). SD cards and USB sticks get wifi enabled when plugged into the Mac Mini. Perfect use for an old computer.

Just bought a 2014 Mac mini on eBay, 16 gig RAM and 2 terabyte SSD hard drive for my KZfaq hip hop podcast, From Da Jump because my MBP kept filling up with video files from iMovie and Garageband audio files, since I use my Mac for work, my book writing, and music production in addition to the YT podcast. Hoping using this dedicated Mac Mini for only podcasting will help free up some space and keep things running smoothly. Great tip on the external GPU, I may try it if the video is choppy when editing episodes in iMovie.

@trevorwgoodchildx
@trevorwgoodchildx Жыл бұрын
@@jpesicka999 it isn't slow at all - as you can see from my comments above it has 2 terabytes - that's a lot of room to store files, and 16 gigs of RAM gives pretty fast data access allowing the MacMini to process the apps I'm using for recording my podcast to use that RAM as temporary memory storage. It does make a difference that I bought this Mac Mini specifically for one purpose: my KZfaq podcast. I'm not using it as a personal computer for everything else in my life and work. As it stands, I'm very happy with my purchase - this was the first episode produced on the Mac Mini: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/osx1irie2LzRdWQ.html

Since I last posted here, I installed Windows 10 on my 2014 Mac Mini and I couldn't be happier. The performance is amazing. It handles heat better than macOS. You can even use intel Quick Sync for fast video transcoding. Xbox and Playstation game streaming runs great. Honestly, anyone who owns a 2014 Mac Mini should do this, it'll make your old kinda sluggish feeling mac mini feel like new. Even clean installs of macOS have never performed as well as Windows 10 has. It made me think the Mac Mini was weak or had a bottleneck in the specs. It doesn't, macOS is just really not that well made. Honestly, macOS made me think hyperthreaded dual core CPUs were not good. But they are... REALLY good, on Windows 10 anyway. I put an Ivy Bridge i3 in my dads Windows 10 PC and it works great. My 3Ghz 2/4 i7 in my Mac Mini also works great in Windows 10.

Thanks for this, was looking into getting one of these as a work computer so I don't have to keep all that stuff on my Windows gaming machine but was hesitant due to the age but it looks like this should run things like docker pretty easily. It was interesting to see the external GPU and I was wondering how big of a performance hit is it going to take with the thunderbolt connection? While I don't need it myself I guess I am just curious if you put a GTX 1080 Ti for example which costs around 250 on Ebay, how big of a performance percentage do you lose on the card specifically vs having the same card connected to a motherboard in a similar build.

If you're trying to run macOS, nvidia graphics drivers will not be supported anyways. There are only specific models of GPUs that have drivers for macOS, and it's mainly AMD

If you're okay with only running Big Sur or Monterey with a patcher, it would be possible to use Kepler NVIDIA GPUs, but for the most part AMD is far better.

My 2012 Mac Pro and 2012 Macbook Pro are supported by Apple up to Mac OS 10.13 High Sierra. This is OK since I'm not subscribing to Adobe Creative Cloud but just staying with my last perpetual license version of Adobe CS6. I have been playing with Affinity Designer, Affinity Photo, and Affinity Publisher since I believe that these apps are the future for those who do not want to subscribe to use production software. So, to have compatibility with the Affinity 2 upgrade, I purchased a late 2014 Mac Mini with 8GBs of RAM and with a 1TB spinning hard drive for $121, with free shipping. I think the limited RAM will work for me since I'm not using the Affinity software for paid work. I'm just still playing around with these apps and learning their new features for now. If I find a need to invest in more serious hardware for Affinity 2, I'll relegate this Mac Mini to a movie and live video streaming computer, plugged into the back of our TV in our family room.

I'm really disappointed. Just found out macOS Ventura won't support 2014 Mac Mini. 😞 When I think 2014, doesn't seem that long ago, but it is 8 years. However, it feels so artificial to drop support. I have the 3Ghz i7, 16GB, SSD version. What is wrong with that, that it can't run an OS. It still works for the jobs the Mac Mini was designed to handle. In a couple of years when the security updates for macOS Monterey stop coming, one solution is to use an anti-virus as a last layer of security. The only issue is, I've found that "real time protection" effects performance on the mac mini. It adds a feeling of latency when opening apps and obviously uses resources, which would be fine on a quad core, but the CPU in the Mac mIni is a hyper-threaded dual core.

I suspect that apple is wanting to bring forward the point at which they drop support for intel machines altogether If next year they say that only 2019 and newer models can run the latest Mac OS version, then it will pretty much confirm what i thought

Been watching your videos and this was a perfect one as I am considering getting a Mac mini to install and setup on my 34 inch 3440x1440 IPS ultrawide. I use to have a 13 inch 15 inch macbook pro hooked up but seem to have some lagging issues with it on integrated. Right now, using a 15 inch 2015 macbook pro with an i7 16gb of ram and dedicated 2gb r9 x370m gpu which has made a huge difference. Plan to check out the next video about using a external gpu enclosure as I do have a rx vega 64 or rx 480 I wonder if I could use. I'd just love to have the full resolution and 144hz refresh rate unlocked to use and look into like playing minecraft and if I can install a program like wine or something to run Overwatch on it, Steam or use Parsec to remote into and game on my windows pc gaming/vr server that I have hardwired in the basement.

I will be using garageband and worried that fan noise will show up during recording with a mic? Next time it happens I will try to monitor the work load. - Actually it seems like it done it after I first turned it on so if it does that again under no heavy load then would that mean I need to send the unit back for replacement? - THX! and any help here will be greatly appreciated!

I have a late 2014 Mac mini 8GB ram and 1T hard drive. It is really slow, even trying to open Word/Pages etc. any ideas how to speed this up as I can’t update the ram to 16GB like in this video. Thanks.
