I am in the US and have a 2016 Jetta S with a 5 speed manual. It's the cheapest VW sold here. It's advertised at $17,680 USD (15,552 Euros) but I got it cheaper because VW is struggling to sell cars here with the the diesel scandal. It has a USB port finally, independent suspension, hard plastic dashboard and takes me where I need to go. I can overlook some of the low qualities like the hard plastics because it's an affordable car, it' safe, drives great and has good fuel economy.

Bosse Grytbakk So far I am. The turbo takes a little getting used to. There's a slight turbo lag when you hit the gas. I haven't had any problems so far, knock on wood. It has plenty of power and it gets pretty good gas mileage.

Enjoyed watching this VW Jetta review. I just purchased a new 2017 VW Jetta 1.4T s (base model) for my son yesterday. I prefer sedan over hatchback. I used to own a ford focus hatchback but found myself desiring a Sedan version of the focus. Now the Jetta is great for highway driving and city commute too. I just hope my son likes it since his last car was a hatchback (fiat 500 pop).

I own one and it is the best car I have ever owned, just be careful with water near the windscreen because the ecu is right under and it can blow if it gets damp inside, so gents with pressure washers should be careful when aiming at the plastic under the window

I have a 2012 Highline 2.5 with a sunroof and it’s a great car! It does have the torsion rear suspension but it’s comfortable nonetheless. Fuel economy is amazing for the 2.5 L! I also have the same colour (Toffee Metallic) which I like! This is my 4th Jetta and I’m very happy with it! Great review Thomas and thanks from Alberta, Canada. 😊

Really liked your review! I recently bought a 2015 Jetta SEL here in the U.S. and I am very pleased with it. I've always had an affinity for German design and engineering, so on my budget, this was the logical choice for me. I must say I am a little dissapointed to learn that the 2016 model year will come with CarPlay, but I am hoping that Volkswagen will make upgrading my RNS315 to this new system relatively simple with their modular stragey.

Hello! Yes, I am continually looking. I found a solution in Europe, but one: it is exceptionally expensive, and two: I am in the US. So thus far, for me, it just isn't economical enough. But suffice it to say, yes, it should be possible.

Hi here in Canada we use to get the ancient 2.0L 8v 115 hp gas engine up until 2015 our base engine in 2016 is the 1.4 L turbo engine that you reviewed here we don't get the 6 speed manual gear box rather a five speed which is ok it has tall gears and the engine as good low end torque and there are available optionally a 6 speed automatic gear box with torque converter in fact we got the same engine in the Jetta hybrid the base model has now rear independent suspension and rear disk brakes and believe it or not there is a USB port in the centre console is the Jetta available in Germany with cylinder deactivation here in Canada not and lastly the function you showed the pre heat. Function is done in the cooling system with either a Wabasto/Espar or it start the car remotely here in Canada we do not get any of these options witch is strange it is way colder here than in Germany the only vehicle here that got a Diesel water heater was the Touareg TDI V10 but only when engine in run mode.

Bravo, Thomas! Don't forget about your friends in Canada ;) The Jetta (and Golf) is very popular in Canada As are sedans in general. My son is driving my (former) 1995 Jetta 2.0 litre. Comfortable with lots of interior space. What is it with brown exteriors now? I agree with you that It's not a great choice of colour. Btw I recall seeing the Bora badge on the Jetta in Italia. Grazie!

Hi Thomas, I saw that Jetta suggested video out of your channel and I got curious what was your opinion, I currently drive an R8 V10 Plus, a S3 Audi and a cheap 2017 C-180 Coupe Merc as my daily commuter. So I'm a 100% German car guy. You won't believe that I still have my old 2013 VW Jetta, 2.5L in-line 5 which I acquired when I started my business, even though it's got that boring look in the outside I have an special delight for that 2.5L. Even driving that high performance of my 2.0TFSI high output out of the S3, I still feel like driving that old 2.5L once a month, guess it's just the nostalgia. By the way it stands in my garage with only 21,400 miles among his other major brothers to remind me that you can achieve anything. Regards!

I have one but is the 2013 the form is similar however I have a Toyota corolla and I can say the quality is definitely better in the Jetta the plus is you can get some German Car for a better price and the Jetta is one of it. The Handling is remarkable for this car Toyota in the U.S have some competition from the Jetta The bad part repairs are little more then Toyota In the past I had BMW I need to say BMW is more superior but this Jetta is almost there. I know the classic style is not the best but I prefer this one is a little timeless.

Hi! Nettes Review. Danke.

@alexklemme
@alexklemme 9 жыл бұрын
Hallo Thomas!
@alexklemme
@alexklemme 9 жыл бұрын

I might disagree with you regarding the suspension. In the 2015 model here in the US they give independant rear suspension all the way from the base model. But don't consider yourself less lucky than the US. Here the base model comes with that awful 2.0L naturally aspirated engine. In Europe you get that 1.2TSI @122HP which is 7HP more than the 2.0L and obviousely more fuel friendly. I heard rumors that VW will start offering that 1.4TSI @150HP for the 2016 model in the US and remove the 2.0L. I wish it turns true and bring the comsumer more engine choices. The Jetta is good for those who want to stay on budget but I prefer the Golf for everything inside out.

My perception ( I'm in U.S.A ) is that there seems to be a perception that VW's are solid-performing, well-built and fun to drive but with one big drawback. They are not trusted as far as reliability as much as the main Japanese cars such as Toyota or Honda are. Consumer Reports for instance rates the '16 Golf as being much below average in the reliability department. As far as the opinion here of the '16 Jetta styling, I think that at least a few auto journalists here consider the Jetta ( and the current USA Passat for that matter ) to be rather bland in comparison to other types such as the Mazda 3 or 6. While I understand where that view of Jetta styling is coming from, and also think its looks are somewhat dated, I prefer a car that has clean, simple lines as in the Jetta and also think it and the Passat are more practical ( better seating position and outward visibility ) as a result of of their styling. I'm considering purchase of a '17 Jetta or Passat and would go for the 1.8T in the Passat but am thinking the 1.4 T for the Jetta. I'd be interested in your opinion as far as what would be gained or lost with 1.4 T vs 1.8 T in the Jetta.

You're a lot nicer about this car than I am - and I own one. Easily the worst car VW has made in decades: GM-like materials, fit and finish inside and out; poor lighting (in the US we get halogen reflector headlights and incandescent taillights, unless you get a GLI); dull driving (I have the 1.8T - only the GLI gets a bigger motor). VW aimed low with the Jetta-VI, and they succeeded in making something outclassed by nearly all of its competition. After the Audi-like Mk-IV and -V, this is a huge let down. Unfortunately, the Jetta-VII isn't much better - while slightly less cheaply made, it has god-awful styling and an even wimpier powertrain. I wouldn't have bought one if my Passat didn't get totaled 6 months after buying it, leaving me with too little money for something better. I really wanted a Honda Civic (which is a better car in every possible way!), but to this day they sell for close to MSRP - almost $10k more than the out-the-door prices for the Jetta-VI at the time. At $10K off MSRP, the Jetta-VI is *almost* worth what I paid for it.
