Have you been seeing a hood ajar notice when your hood is closed? This is common issue on F150s that costs $450 to fix at the dealer. Today we are going to replace the $70 part ourselves in less than 30 minutes.
If your alarm is randomly going off at night or if you open and shut your hood and you still see the hood ajar notification chances are your hood latch switch is starting to fail. When this happens, the hood switch can randomly think it is open and cause your alarm to go off in the middle of the night.
In this video, I fix this common issue.

@menoaz it probably is. See if you have that switch in the hood latch assembly.

BYPASS the micro switch !!! Remove the 10 mm hood latch bolts. Then, unclip and remove the hood latch 'sensor' wire and 'micro switch'. Cut off the micro switch and solder the two (2) wires together. Tape or shrink wrap the soldered wires. Replace the sensor wire to the latch. Reinstall the latch and NEVER worry about the problem again. Of course you NOW will not see the "HOOD AJAR" message. However, you must properly CLOSE the hood of the truck. Like people have been doing for the past 100 years !!!

excellent work, nice of you to think of the rest of us who are having this same issue. The worst part is getting that hood ajar message while driving. I'm looking forward to get rid the issue now. :)

This has caused me some problems. It sounds the alarm when it randomly occurs. I got a notification and thought my truck was getting broken into. Thank you. I’m going to try and fix it myself.

It really isn't bad to do. I'd say one of the more important parts is marking the location of the original hinge so that you can install the replacement in the same location. Don't want to shift the hood at all.

Ha, here's another one I didn't see before. Great video brother. I agree with you, some of these things are easy and takes just a little off your time. Perfect example, my wife has a coolant leak on her jeep. The dealer wanted almost $1400 to replace it. She brought it home and I can get a new radiator, upper and lower hoses, new cap and reservoir tank for less than $400. Probably spend a couple hours replacing it and save over a thousand dollars. Plus I'm not so sure I trust our local dodge and jeep dealer. I haven't examined it yet myself, but I wouldn't be a bit Styrofoam if it's just a $2 hose clamp.

I hear you on that one. Some of the projects aren’t that hard to do you just get nailed by a should cost hourly rate. Really if I wasn’t recording the video with it, this could be a ten minute job. I’m with you on the jeep coolant. Better off tackling it yourself

That's why the horn started going off at 12 am one night a month ago and then the hood Lach started go on just last week O another thing from another clip. I was at the carwash, and my antenna was snapped off, and I was wondering why the remote won't start. Well, the antenna is for that even tho it makes sense even tho my XM still work

The XM is the other antenna on the roof of the truck. Not through the one on the fender

Would there be any reason to NOT reconnect sensor? Video is great and probably next step. But at point just want to disconnect and leave off. Any thoughts? Thanks much (F150 2019)

Don't quote me on this... but if you disconnect the sensor it might leave it in the open position which will think the hood is open at all times. You may need to short across the connector to make it work. A negative for doing it this way is I believe the alarm is hooked to that switch, so you would lose notice if the hood is opened. You also wouldn't know if you were driving and the hood was slightly ajar.

Unfortunately, my "Hood Ajar" message is random. Is it the switch or does the latch need to be adjusted?

I found temporarily the latch being adjusted makes it better…. But you shouldn’t fix it that way since the main job of then latch is to align the body panels. It’s the switch that needs to be replaced.

I've been keeping my hood unlatched until I get a chance to fix it, so it doesnt go off. Alarm doesnt set, but at least i can park the truck with confidence. Has anyone used the old switch and connector to make a bypass in case the replacement one fails?

I haven't, but you should be able to do it by shorting across the wires. You could make a connector if you can figure out the other end of the wiring harness side.

Having this issue now, until i get the replacement part can i prevent the alarm from going off by keeping the hood unlatched while it's sitting in my driveway?

What I think happens is the switch is making intermittent contact when it fails. Randomly opens. Leaving it unlatched, I'd make sure your interior lights are off and I'm not sure if the alarm system will actually arm.
