I had a 2013 VW GLI Audubon edition, it was amazing, both in design, timeless looks, and tech. Had everything one could want plus, the A3 has a larger sunroof, less passenger space and trunk space, but does have the option of AWD. I’m curious which will be liked more...the german or the mexican?...time to see.

1820AL looks are subjective. i like the gti's looks better than the a3. I do agree on the ride quality though and the quattro awd system that the gti lacks. You are correct, GTI lacks VVT but it still has VVL from what i understand. (correct me if im wrong) looking at the specs from audi and vw, they have the same performance specs. the gti even gets 1mpg better in the city because of the weight advantage. it has the same drivetrain too. There are always differences between a transverse and a longitudinal engines. I'm not saying the Audi is a bad car, I'm just saying for the money, if youre looking for comfort,drivability, theres better options.

Well I own an '13 Audi S7, so Im not looking for a car in this segment. But to me, looking at the GTI and the A3 side by side, the A3 does look more upscale, but like you said, looks are subject. Ive ridden in both vehicles and the suspension calibration is very much different from each other respectively, as the A3 is more of a compliant and softer ride while the GTI is more of a stiffer and less shock bounce- filled ride.
