It's sad, as the Chrysler is actually a solid car in that it really does feel connected to the road plus, aside from Buick, is profoundly quiet. Subaru has a lot of fan boys making it the VW of the East.

you do realize that most "American" cars are filled with parts made elsewhere? Most Chrysler products have Fiat parts in them. Good for you for thinking boxer engines are updated Corvair engines especially given the boxer engine has been around since well before the Corvair.

These guys are the worst at testing cars. Every segment I've watched left me knowing no more about either car they're testing/comparing than I knew before watching. You bring together two all-wheel drive cars and mention nearly nothing about their all-wheel drive capabilities. The Subaru has the ultimate AWD powertrain system and you concentrate on how pretty the interior is or isn't. People buy Subaru for their pedigree and the Chrysler doesn't stand a snowballs chance when you put it side by side with any Subaru product on a wet or smowy road.

I am not a fan of CVTs. Subaru has one of the Best. Reliable and efficient. You can put it in sport mode were it mimics and 8 speed transmission. I tried the 9 speed auto in the Cherokee and it was horrible. The Subaru also should hold up much better in the long run and has a proven awd system.

@MaestroTJS 9 жыл бұрын
bluefox4848 Not true. I have looked at some used Subarus from the mid-2000's with 140,000-200,000 kilometres on them and they have either had the head gasket replaced or it was going to need replacing. The service managers say it isn't a problem but then you find out there are cars in their bays all the time that are getting it done. The prospect of a $3000 repair put me off buying one. If you look at Consumer Reports, you will also see that the head gasket issue is a problem up until at least 2009. Since then, they may have improved, or it is too early to tell.

the Subaru part of this review is just plain bad and poorly tested. I had to go watch other non Chrysler paid videos for a proper review. he didn't even know that the Subaru changes its gearing on hard acceleration to reach high rpm. and then proceeded to make a fool of himself after doing a quick overtaking move in the Subaru. the Mazda 6 is not in the same category as these cars. it's slower then a moped and FWD.

I can’t imagine why Subaru won’t loan you any more cars. I mean all your complaining about the CVT, the looks, and the fact that you took the Outback off road in conditions it wasn’t made for, you complained some more when it wouldn’t do things a dedicated 4 wheel drive would do, and you scratched the crap out of the paint on your off-road video with it. I mean how dare a car company not loan a bunch of nonprofessional reviewers on KZfaq a vehicle especially when the hate on it and physically destroy it.

Not a bad review, but it's a little unfortunate that he basically was saying the Chrysler was better simply because of personal preferences. That's fine he has his own opinions - nothing wrong with that, but some of the things he complained about (for either brand) weren't actually problems, or were designed intentionally the way he didn't like. On another note, personally, I think the Chrysler is a better looking car than either the Mazda or Ford.

Shirazi I got the impression the newer Legacies were designed for people who want a comfortable and safe family AWD sedan that's affordable. It isn't meant to appeal to enthusiasts and to me, seems intentionally "boring". That being said, you're treating it for your own preferences, which it won't cater to. What you're doing is like buying a bagel and complaining that it isn't as sweet and colorful as a donut. To me, the amount of power in the 3.6L Legacy is unnecessary for such a car. Like what are you going to do with all that power, especially with a CVT? I'd rather pay less and get a smaller engine if I'm just looking for a daily commuter car. Also... what transmission problems?

Funny. Most people want better fuel economy. Why most reviews prefer the Subaru. Not TFLcar. I knew going in, with their severe distaste to the CVT and no shifts - the Subaru had no chance. They do admit the Subaru feels much more solid. There is a reason - Subaru's are very durable. Shown repeatedly, the Chryslers are not the most economical cars or durable. We will see if the durablity has been improved in a few years.

I don't really get Roman's obsession with the Fusion. I mean it's a decent looking car but he talks about it like it's got the styling of a Ferrari or a Lambo. The 200 is a good looking car. It just looks simple, and refined. It's not trying to emulate something that it's not. I wouldn't buy a car in this segment based on looks alone. My wife and I test drove a 2013 Fusion at our local Ford dealer and I wasn't impressed. On startup it had a knock which made me wary right away, and neither I, nor her were impressed with the handling or power when we were driving it. Neither of us liked the interior either. It looks good in pictures, but I just didn't particularly like it in person but perhaps it's just preference. That being said this segment is very competitive which is good for consumers across the board.

M67v The Chrysler 200 was cancelled after 3 production years of the new generation due to complete lack of sales. The fit and finish and quality in the 200s was iffy, the reliability was horrible, the transmission was among the worst and most unreliable transmissions in the modern era, it was way too expensive for the class once you stepped into higher trims, and the interior room is very mediocre for a midsize sedan. All in all, the Chrysler 200 was a terrible, failed attempt for Chrysler to get back into it. The Subaru legacy, meanwhile is still selling quite well on North American roads. If you think about it, there really isn’t anything the Chrysler 200 did better than its rivals.

+Etxag03 most people think of Honda and Toyota for "proven reliability" which was proven for the most part in the 90s. The cars, engineers, assembly line workers, management, and technology has changed since then to the point where the commonality between the old proven reliable (or unreliable for American brands up to mid 2000s) car a new one is minimal or none at all. Between this Legacy and 200 for example, not much of anything qualifies as proven yet. If I were to go and buy a brand new Corolla, same thing. Not much is proven and don't think for a second one car will be better than the other just because of the brand name because that would be falling for their marketing scheme. I do know that the 3.6L V6 on the 200 has won various awards since it was released. I'm assuming the Subaru engine is good too.

As a whole I dislike CVTs, as well, but after renting a 200, having it for a week, the 9 speed while works fine is CONSTANTLY shifting. its almost jarring for driving everyday. We ended up purchasing a 2015 Legacy and absolutely love it. In comparison to any other manufacture CVT, there is no comparison. The feel of the Subaru blow them out of the water. The Honda had to be the worst as far as press the gas and it holds it at 3300rpm. The Subaru works so well that you forget its a CVT, Like he said, it does mimic gears, and always seems to be in its power band without feeling like you are connected to a snowmobile transmission. Id also like to state as a whole they both feel pretty numb, which isn't really a bad thing, both are a pleasant place to spend time inside of and relaxing to drive. but handling I still would choose the Subaru. The last thing and this wasn't addressed in this video but is a HUGE deal breaker to many people, There is not a sedan in this category by any manufacture that has better outward visibility than the Legacy.

Can someone provide me a little insight as to why Roman seems to hate the idea of a CVT so much? How did the CVT personally hurt him? I guess I don't understand the bitching about it? It's a sedan, it's not made to go off-roading, it's not made to go rock crawling, it's designed for Point A to Point B driving, to work, home, errands and a road trip in the between. I've enjoyed the videos by TFLcar for years, but if Roman can't cut the negativity about the CVT when it's clearly the way that more and more manufactures are headed to with mechanical redesigns. This is especially with pretty much all american sedan's no longer being produced after 2019 it's time to hang up the press pass and retire off in the ether, Roman.

Although these two cars are in the same segment, I would assume that the buyers for each are different. The Subaru would probably be competing more with Camry, Accord, and Sonata, while the Chrysler would probably compete against the Fusion, the Optima, and the Malibu, The Mazda kind of provides the best of both worlds, in my opinion.

4~5 years ago I would instantly conclude the Legacy was a better car. Period. Now in 2015 I'm not so sure anymore. Looks: the older 03~08 Legacies were the best looking midsize cars of their time. The 09~14 was decent, but this 15~ is kind of hideous. Conversely, I always hated the Sebring & 11~14 200. Now in the 15~ 200, I think it looks pretty nice; feels more like a Mercedes CLA than another Camry/Accord clone. The story is pretty much the same as the interior. Yes the Legacy is larger, but if I wanted space I'd skip this and jump in the Impala. The 200 wins here. Engine: Subaru H6 despite displacing 3.6 liters it is arguably the weakest 6cyl in any midsize car (some competitors 2.0 I4 turbos even beat it). Yet sitting in the same factory we have the really torquey & more efficient FA20 DIT H4 turbo under the hood of the Forester XT & Impreza WRX. Why not just ditch the EZ36 altogether? The 200's Pentastar 3.6 is arguably Chrysler's best engine they make bar those big V8s, and the 200 equipped with it actually is the most powerful in segment. I'd just wished FCA sort out the shifting algorithm of that 9spd auto, but nothing that cannot be solved with a software update in the future. Handling: The 03~08 Legacy were the sharpest tools when the Mazda6 & Ford Fusion shared rather bloated platforms in the day. It handled like a more grown-up WRX especially the 3.0R Spec. B. Even the 09~14 had a 2.5GT: a Legacy with a WRX powertrain matched with a 6spd MT gearbox. This current one? Nothing. The 200 however can be spec-ed from either C or S depending on your taste & the platform is derived from the Alfa Romeo Giulietta & Dodge Dart; both noted to be very driver-oriented machines. The only reservations I have left is the fine-tuning of the suspension, transmission & long-term reliability of the 200. Other than those things, the 200 in my eyes is heading in the right direction of where the Sebring where it once started. For the other, Subaru just keeps making the wrong decisions that makes each generation of Legacy somehow more generic & Camry/Accord like over time.

Nirvana Fan Indeed. FCA is making a big mistake killing the Dart & 200, Yes SUVs & Trucks are the hot thing now, but gas won't stay cheap forever... However, starting 2017 Ford will start selling the Fusion Sport, equipped with a 2.7 liter V6 twin turbo matched with AWD. ~325hp & 350lb/ft of torque. That would be my pick for a non-luxury sporty AWD sedan.

+Weblider be careful though. You must know that the AWD on the Legacy and other CVT equipped Subarus is not the old symmetrical 50/50 split viscous coupling AWD. It is a slightly front biased electronic setup. While it probably is still better than the 200's AWD, it isn't the same system as the famous Subaru AWD, it might actually be better though.

Roman you clearly haven't really driven the 2015 Legacy. If you had then you would know when you floor the pedal the transmission emulates a 6 speed. I think you and the other auto journalist that think they know better need to stop crying about CVTs. They have fewer moving parts and get better gas millage so they are the way of the future. Sure you can get a 9 or 10 speed automatic but then you add expense and reliability issues just for that "shifting" feeling you seem to be so in love with. Personally I find a shiftless acceleration experience to be far more luxurious. At the end of the day the Legacy and Outback are build to be safe, reliable, and full of utility. Subaru never said the Legacy / Outback was or is a super high performance sports car. Like all the rest of the no nothing useless auto journalists you need to get an understanding for what a car is built for and stop trying to compare everything to a Ferrari Enzo. I wished I could give this a good 2,000 thumbs down. I'm just glad I'm not subscribed to this channel.

CVT's can actually make the car feel much more responsive in day to day driving where you just want to have a little extra power laid down to pass someone. They aren't as appealing in full throttle runs though (though just as fast). But seriously, who does full throttle day in day out on the street with cars like these. You pick up some serious speeds very quickly. Truth is, V6 CVTs are not bad at all.

The 200's powertrain is also in Base AWD Cherokees, just less sophisticated because it doesnt have the "4x4 rear locking diff". its Interior and platform is currently 2 years old (Dodge Dart.) so you CAN say its reliable. you have a better chance at a Corvette blowing its motor (can say that because they havent released a recall about that problem yet) than anything other than Regular routine Maintenance/Recalls happening to a 200.
