After a little over one thousand miles, here is my review. Update as of Sep 2016. 7K miles and no issues.. not a damn issue. Bike is still stock, and still awesome!

I had a scrambler classic. The gearing has being lowered substantially from the monster with same engine (M796). You would need to go between 1 tooth extra on the front to the same size sprocket on the rear of the monster. I feel somewhere in between would be much better. It would also help reduce the sensitive feel of the throttle especially off road, considering the fact the bike has no ride modes.

I have recently PX my KTM 990 for a scrambler icon, firstly I've been riding over 40yrs all types of bikes but fancied something smaller and lighter, the Scrambler looks great mines in yellow has accropovic exhaust system plus tail tidy. Now I'm 5'7 tall 29 inch inside leg. So the scrambler size is great weight at around 184kg wet great the handerling is great in town great motorway or highway for you guys in USA is ok after all it is 803cc but not like my KTM. But on the A and B roads in the UK oh man the suspension is to hard mainly because of our crap roads,and the seat is definitely not great after a hour or so trust me . And the 15k big service your looking around £900 -£1500 ... But I do love riding her and with a seat mod and suspension tweek it will be great.

Did you have a 990 Supermoto? How are you finding it after a month? I’ve just sold my 990sm and one thing I really loved was the comfort and flexibility of the suspension on Nz goat track roads, have you got used to the scrambler in that respect?

1000 miles is not a long term review IMO. I've owned one since May and it's perfectly capable on the freeway if you don't treat it like a sports bike. It will go all day at a comfortable 65MPH and with the addition of a larger counter shaft sprocket its even better. The seat sucks, the stock rear suspension for sure. You hit on many other valid points but did miss some as well. The available seat from Ducati will raise your position an inch which sounds like what you may want.

+Dave Edmonds It counts as a long term review, because these just came out and I was one of the first to purchase on in my area and put miles on besides just the regular test ride review you see on youtube.

Long-term = 1,000 miles? 6,000 revs at 75 mph: that sounds buzzy. It's not so small. I sat on one, and I'm 6ft, and it felt fine. I'd be interested in what you think of it after 20,000 miles, and I don't consider that to be long-term. I've done 20,000 on a Buell Ulysses, but if I'd done 60,000, I reckon I could comment with some validity on relability.

When you say the engine is no good for the highway, you immediately disqualify yourself as a reviewer. It's the gearing you have an issue with. The Scrambler is not sold as a highway cruiser. It comes with low gearing that multiplies the torque so it's quick off the line and suitable for motorcycle neophytes like yourself with minimal skills.
@warlok9
@warlok9 9 жыл бұрын
Nice review. I am thinking about picking one of these up next season. Some very useful info on the high highway rpm. Are all the scrambled models geared the same? On a side note... I don't want to be critical, but the tongue clicking noise you make when you pause between words gets a bit grating after a while. I know it's not easy to have a conversation with yourself, and it's probably just a little thing you do to keep the words coming out. I'd try just pausing if you need to. A few seconds of silence is okay while you think of the next thing to say.
@MotoJedeye

As you said, size is subjective. And I think that its small size is a PRO rather than a CON. On the other hand, I find that the ultra small fuel tank and the milage it gives you is less than ideal. One more litre for example wouldn 't harm the design, but could save your day on some longer rides. Honestly... what were the designers thinking? "Oh... it 's a pretty versatile bike as iti is already.... why don 't we cripple it a bit and call it 'character'"? :P - And the stock handlebar sucks. It will probably be my next bike, but I will certainly change the handlebar with that of Full Throttle or a similar aftermarket one.
@MotoJedeye
@MotoJedeye 8 жыл бұрын
+kaveiros75 Good points. The small size certainly works in its benefit for th urban commuter or the dirt trail rider. A bigger tank- should have been a no brainer. I'm actually ok with the stock bars at this point.
@kaveiros75

How does the bike handle at low speeds/rpms? Deciding between a scrambler and 899. Previous Monster I had was horrible at low speeds/rpms... Was too rough. Looking for something smooth but I doubt I'll find that in a Ducati.
@MotoJedeye
@MotoJedeye 9 жыл бұрын
Motor_City_Made Handles low speeds great. It's geared perfectly for urban use. Think 1st-4th 0-60MPH as the bikes sweet spot. Of course, very different bike than the 899.

You said its not the best on the freeway going over 75mph. Can you please elaborate on that?
@MotoJedeye
@MotoJedeye 9 жыл бұрын
***** Sure. It has to do with the high revving RPMs at 75MPH I'm at 6K RPM. That results in a high strung engine and more engine vibration that I would like. In contrast my old Hypermotard was between 4,800-5K RPM at that speed.

@wozza59
@wozza59 9 жыл бұрын
The easier and cheaper way is to change the gearing by way of different sprockets. Then that would allow lower revs at highway speeds. However, you will find you will get slightly slower acceleration.

Hi- you say it could use an 'overdrive' gear, but it has a 6th gear (doesn't it??) Were you at 6k rpm in 6th gear at 75 mph? Thanks!
@MotoJedeye
@MotoJedeye 9 жыл бұрын
+scott siegel So here is deal. It the exact RPM and Speed ratio depends on a variety of factors- riders weight, wind direction, road elevation. It's def close to 6K around 75MPH.
@bueler4950
@bueler4950 4 жыл бұрын
@@MotoJedeye to clarify, the RPM at 75 miles per hour in 6th gear is fixed by the gearing and will not change regardless of external conditions. If you have an 80 lb Rider going downhill at 75 mile per hour with a 30 mile per hour Tailwind, the RPM will be the same as if you had a 200lb rider plus a 200 pound passenger going uphill at 75 miles per hour into a 30 mile per hour headwind, assuming the bike had enough power to achieve that speed in the same gear.

+Danim24 with 13.5l, on highway at 130kmh, you can go ~180km before the red gaz icon appears. This let you ~30km to find a gaz station (still at 130km/h). On normal roads with twisties, limited at 90km/h (but riding between 90 and 110 kmh), you can ride with no stress 220km and then, having more than 40 kms to find a gaz station. In town or city, as you have to stop and start frequently, the Scrambler sometimes has to drink after only 150-160kms. 140kms if you take a passenger. It all depends on your way to ride.
