Interesting, I had an old BMW that 3 shops gave up on, ALL lights would randomly go dead. I broke out my diagrams and tester. The lighting system was spread out on 3 different fuses/circuits, so it seemed impossible for all 3 to randomly fail simultaneously. I pulled the fusebox apart and found a crack going down the middle of the entire circuit board. Repaired it with solder and jumpers. With patience and a brain, I was able to fix the car 3 shops gave up on in 2 hours. You gotta pat yourself on the back. lol

One day a guy drives to our range and spends the day picking up spent shell casings. He gets into his Dodge truck to leave and "no start". I end up putting a jumper wire in the fuse box fuel pump fuse to power and it runs. I ended up finding out fuel pump relay was bad and Dodge soldered the fuel pump relay directly to the fuse box control board. "Stupid idea" and the little relay is totally under rated for the fuel pump, especially as the pump gets older and requires more amps to run. I upgraded that relay with a better one, rather than pay the high cost for a fuse box controller and the owner was happy to have his truck back. The owner became a good friend from that day. Sadly Richard (the owner) lost his battle with cancer over a year ago. Thank you for the video

Basic testing leads you to the problem. Once you know there's no fuel pressure, time to print out a diagram showing the fuel pump control circuit. From there basic power and ground testing will find the problem. Some folks get it and others dont. Takes more then just knowing how to change nuts and bolts to be a true technician/mechanic in modern times. I own a shop and have 20 plus years In the game. Never seems to amaze me how little people know when they come up against an electrical issue. Good help is hard to find . I would hire you any day. Good job figuring out the issue and taking care of the customer. God bless and take care. Also to test the junction block just check resistance between the power supply to the block and the power terminal on fuel pump relay or fuse whichever gets power first. If there is a break in the solder or board you won't have any continuity between the two and you know the fuse block is bad. Love the vids, great job!

I work on Swiss CNC machines and encounter bad solder joints on boards quite often. That experience has transferred over to working on cars also. Most techs find a bad module or controller and just replace it. I have found by dissecting old ones that stressed solder connections are usually the primary fault. The reason is caused by heat and vibration which results in the joints failing. I have repaired many boards by cleaning the board. Removing the solder on the affected circuits. Cleaning the joints again and then refluxing and reapplying new solder.

Once you've narrowed down that the fuel system does in fact function but the ECM/PCM does hot have control over the fuel pump relay your 90% there. You're left with A) the driver in the ECM/PCM or B) Wiring/connections between the ECM/PCM and the relay. I'm not sure what a lot of these mechanics are going to do that can't troubleshoot basic electrical issues. With all the hybrid / electric vehicles coming onto the market I guess they will just be relegated to parts changers... On another note those those Power Probes are handy by far the best tool to have in that situation.

Agreed. Some of the diagnostic trees are over reach. An older retired mechanic once told me his diagnostic technique. You need fuel, air, compression and spark at the right time. older hondas have similar problem with main relay

I think everybody reflows those. Another problem they had was the grease they used in their prndl switches and ignition switches solidifies and causes all kinds of flakey stuff to happen.

Are these fusions garbage? My friend had one, same generation. Wouldn't crank half the time. Low miles. He ended up trading it in. His also had several transmission recalls/breakages within the 30k miles that he had it.

Dude, did you even watch the video? At 6:23, you can see the instrument panel before our man fires up the engine. ODO is 72,341 miles.

You should be good at this Rich! Ford was dumb enough to mount those FPDM on the F-Series frame rail for road salt to ruin regularly. I would guess half of all F-Series owners will need a new FPDM in their ownership some day. How many have you changed on trucks?
@FordBossMe3 жыл бұрын
They moved me away from trucks a few years ago so I've lost a lot of touch with some of that stuff I've been doing more just regular F-150 and SUVs and Passenger cars but I may have to pick up the diesel work at our shop because the guy is leaving and then I'll be back on the trucks

@@FordBossMe it's an easy job to explain to customers, after removing it from the frame. The aluminum rotted away on the bottom, some would fall apart on removal. Not sure where Ford is mounting them now, but that was stupid. Especially with the steel frame rails, dissimilar metals made it rot faster. Good luck going back to trucks, lots of differed maintenance and overworked trucks. You already experienced that F150 with the choppy tires. It gets worse. 😒🙄😥
