KZfaq has lots of reviews of the Honda Civic Tourer when it was new but not much as a used buy contributed by owners. It's a nice car that makes a great used buy in the UK when you can find it at the right price. I've had mine a week now: bought as part of a downsize from a CR-V and a drive for lower running costs, it has not disappointed. I expect to keep it for a very long time, so subscribe for future updates on Honda Civic Tourer ownership!

I've had four 2.2 iCTDI Accords and never had an issue as no Diesel Particulate Filter. I've had two iDTEC Accord Tourers, both 2.2 litres and despite the DPFs never had any issue. The third iDTEC was a 2012 5 door Civic 2.2 iDTEC. Mega reliable Swindon built Civic so I gifted it to my son as his second car after his very first car was a 2005 Honda Jazz. He loves it and it's on 199,000 miles. Never let him down and I'll have it back off him if he gets bored. I'm now looking at a 1.6 iDTEC Tourer and thanks to John's video it has again proven to be the estate to buy. If I can find one with the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) even better.

Brilliant. I can't really fault mine. There are a few things highlighted on owner's forums that were easily remedied. I have a little bit of high speed wandering on the m'way but a tweak on a 4-wheel alignment setup should sort that. I use the magic seats a lot - they are fantastic.

Great choice of car, mine is identical to yours on a 15 plate, bought it Nov 2017 from Arnold Clark in their sale paid £10250 for it 31k on the clock with full Honda service history. We use it daily mileage now 68k, always been reliable, fuel economy never falls below 60mpg indicated have seen 82mpg on long gentle drive on A1. Loads of space, the magic seats are great for loads as well. I intend to keep this for many years yet. Enjoy yours !

Brilliant - many thanks for the reply. I am really enjoying the Civic: so comfortable and really great on fuel. Just had the new set of Goodyear 4seasons fitted and the ride quality has vastly improved.

One thing to note about the Automatic headlights and Automatic wipers. In 2018 I drove a 2013 model, 1.6 I-Dtec hatchback and that thing surprised me quite badly with the "auto" systems I mentioned. I drive a 2005 Citroen C5 V6 and my dad drives 2012 Passat 2.0 TDI and they have also Automatic headlights and wipers. But they really are automatic. Allow me to explain: When it is raining, if it is only slight rain with minimum intervention from the wipers, the lights don't go on. If the rain intensity increases (therefore the wiper speed also increases), the car senses that and turns on the headlights. So I was used to that. When we were driving back from the seaside, we got into a thunderstorm and everything was on Auto on the car. After 5 mins, several cars started flashing at me. I was wondering why they were doing that. It took me around 1 minute to figure out that the lights weren't on. I was shocked. So I turned them on manually. They are very basic Auto lights, only when going in tunnels or during night time. They are not linked with the wipers in any way. Not sure if the facelift fixed that, but something to be mindful about. Otherwise very good car. I enjoyed it a lot. Only downside was the slightly underpowered engine (at least to me). I am actually considering buying a Tourer next month. Fingers crossed!

Update: Bought a late 2013 Civic Hatchback 2.2 i-Dtec. Very happy with the car. I can confirm my previous comment about the headlights and wipers. Other than that, only the infotainment system is a bit dull and slow to respond. Other than that, awesome car and engine. It pulls like a truck and I am getting 5/5.5 l per 100km with 80% on the highway driving.

The Honda Accord (EU 2008-2015) has the same dysfunctional auto headlights and wipers. Apparently Honda (or Nippon Denso) did not update the performance of these systems to keep pace with those of the competition. But as you state: these are minor nibbles in an overall attractive package (both for the Civic and the Accord).

John Glynn- I have also driven the car to Cornwall and Brittany on family holidays. Roof box and 4 bikes on a rack. Sits a little low on rear fully laden but didn’t miss a beat on 1200 miles of driving around France. Hope to have this car many years to come. 54mpg day to day. Best I’ve ever had was 61mpg. Very acceptable fuel economy with a heavy right foot.

Hi Keith - mine is just me and the dog most days but looking forward to some Euro touring one day when we are all back to normal. I am anywhere from 54 mpg per tank on the b-roads around here to over 70 on a motorway run. Economy is decent for anyone who likes to 'drive on'.

Great review. I'm a huge Honda fan myself. Had a crv, civic type r and integra dc5 type r. Worth noting with the tourer that the base model is free road tax.....sr, ex £20 knocks emissions up to 103 must be because of the added weight
@johndglynn
@johndglynn 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Patrick, yes a great car. Emissions are slightly higher due to the 17" wheels fitted as standard hence the £20. Lower models have 16s as standard. I am happy with £20 versus £325 on the CRV! Fuel savings are pretty significant at UK prices too.
@sasman63

@@johndglynn great knowledge John. Didn't even think of the wheels. I do triathlons so the tourer will definitely be my next vehicle choice and definitely swaying toward the models with larger wheels....£20 will be well worth it. I've subscribed. Keep up the good work
@ANehmet
@ANehmet 4 жыл бұрын
Larger wheels = slower performance, more fuel used (hence higher co2), & because tyre height is reduced, add in poorer ride, more susceptible to wheel and tyre damage by potholes.

Brilliant discussion and review! thankyou Wondering if you ever got to the bottom of the headunit. did you manage to get a decent up date or maps software? can you mirror android phones? or did you swap out for a custom one, and if you did do all the steering and bluetooth buttons work ?

Good insight to the diesel tourer I may consider this in the coming future. Is there much information on the reliability front for the diesel?
@johndglynn
@johndglynn 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, the 1.6 is pretty reliable as it is in a low state of tune. Remaps and add-on boxes can up the power by a fair bit but there is enough grunt as standard for my sort of driving. Lots of 1.6s around and some high mileage cabs etc out there. If there was an inherent issue, we'd probably know about it by now. Still really enjoying mine after 1500 miles.

@@johndglynn It's ticking all the boxes for me and I was just asking because I hear very mixed views regarding Honda diesels. I would say it's particularity aimed at the i-CDTi era and predecessor engines. The i-DTEC is looking a lot more promising and like you say nothing around in terms of major failures or recalling. I may consider the 5dr Hatch as there isn't many Tourers, but either way I'm very keen on this model you got the nicest one of them all!. Hope you post up more in the future John thanks.

How tall u are? Looks not much space in second row behind you? What better to drive, crv or civic ? We have two kids, not sure which have more room in second row.
@johndglynn
@johndglynn 4 жыл бұрын
Not that tall: under 6 foot. Yes the seats are a little closer in this versus CRV but not squashed. I found being high up was better, especially for kids in the back. My 2006 CRV has sliding rear seats so legroom is huge if you want it to be. I find the CRV great to drive and miss mine - just too big for the miles I do nowadays. I am saving a good chunk of money on fuel in the Civic! That said, I have not sold the CRV yet - a few jobs to do to it over summer and will probably keep it for towing, use in snow and as a spare car etc.
