A short video explaining just a few points about lapping the 'Ring safely and smoothly in the wet. This video is aimed primarily at FWD cars, which are not The Devil's work, but are actually very good at going fast in difficult conditions.

Nice one Dale - wished I'd seen this before my Clio outing in the wet on Friday 8th 😝👍- great advice and video. Big thanks to Dale for an awesome ring taxi ride on Sunday 10th July - was a brilliant climax to an awesome Nordschleife experience and I'd highly recommend Anyone to take a lap with Dale 🏁 BTG FTW 🏁

Great guide Dale ! I only drove the ring twice in rainy condition and it was a nerve wrecking experience for sure. Especially in portions of the track where you can't really go slow like foxhole or when you feel the track drying, pick pace to find a really wet spot 300m further ...

Very informative. Ive had rwd most of my drivin life til i bought an 850 t5 which i like. I was nervous of a wet lap till i did a wet lap with an instructor in and enjoyed it very much. The footage didnt work so cant reference it. Would i be correct in thinking that if your smooth with the throttle, specially on the ring, then youd have to be really going for it to have big oversteer in fwd? This is a serious question if someone can advise, cheers

What made you buy this car? I'm not into Seat cars, its not common in my country but now that I see yours I started to do some research about Seat and they have some good looking cars there.

I keep hearing the word "compression" alot in those Nordschleife guide videos, can someone tell me what it means? Couldn't figure it out yet :D
@BTGDale
@BTGDale 9 жыл бұрын
Dani D. The bottom of the dip, where the car compresses. For example the deepest point of the track at the Foxhole.

Dani D. It is when your car squats down under load. It is even worse if it starts bottoming out.

Hi, can you explain why is the concrete the best option? Also why late turn in and late apex?
@LloydBarker93
@LloydBarker93 9 жыл бұрын
Marc Rennen The only times concrete road surfaces are mentioned are at the carousel and it's mini counterpart - due to the camber of the corners and roughness of the concrete relative to tarmac it is simply the fastest way to take these corners in any conditions as to avoid the concrete would lose a lot of time (going very wide for possibly worse grip). The late turn-in and late/missed apexes are due to the wet conditions, a line commonly referred to the 'karting line'. Generally the normal racing line on a well-used racing circuit is very slippery when wet due to the surface being "rubbered-in", so the normal dry line should be avoided when possible - hence late and wide apexes/lines.

but why did he stayed on the racing line under braking and acceleration for most of the time?
@LloydBarker93
@LloydBarker93 9 жыл бұрын
Marc Rennen Check out 5:05 - he mentions that to brake off-line would be beneficial in terms of grip, and therefore would result in being able to brake later but that the entry line would then be less than ideal. It is always a balance between going wide or off-line for improved grip whilst still maintaining pace and overall speed. What I mean by this is that in some corners it may be better to be completely off the racing line, going in tight and drifting out wide (see 3:09); whereas other times there may only really be one quick line though a corner regardless of grid which is when a slightly modified dry line would be used. Also, regarding the first example I mentioned - if it was to be raining very heavily on track and grip was even further reduced, or if it was getting damp on slicks, then I would expect to see drivers sacrificing the braking and entry lines more in order to simply stay on track.

Why are you double-clutching in every car? Is it in any way beneficial or is it just a matter of old habits you acquired?

I couldn't get confident in a RWD car, I had a few, when driving fast that is, especially in the wet. I have learnt to drive fast/race in FWD so its kinda alien to me to jump into a RWD car. I found a huge difference and prefer FWD as personally I could feel what was happening more. I ended up using my RWD for a bit of drifting but soon when back to FWD. Best advice I can give you, is do a track day in a hired RWD car, you will understand what I mean. I await the FWD is gay and 'your'e a pussy' comments.

2:58 why are FWD's more prone to lift off oversteer?
@ryantomlinson4367
@ryantomlinson4367 8 жыл бұрын
Because all the weight is on the front end so when you let of the power the front end will dip down and the rear will lift slightly so it loses a lot of grip to the road
