2015 Toyota Rav4 Rear Brakes and Rotor Replacement. Why are my wheels turning brown? How do I replace the rear brakes on my Rav4? This video will give you the basic insights on what you'll need to do. This process is similar to ALL Rear "Drum in Hat" Disc Brake systems. This video is a pads and rotors replacement, as well as visual inspection of the parking brake assembly and associated parts. This is a 34°F Parking Lot DIY!

Auto repairs for the "Do-it-yourself" mechanic... These are "HOW-TO" videos, that show viewers details of what is involved in a specific repair... some do's and don'ts, as well as a variety of tips to make the repair easier. Warning: Some videos may contain material that qualifies as "other than normally accepted".

I do most, if not all repairs, with tools that I carry around in my overloaded 1997 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. I perform "On-Site" braking and suspension repairs, amongst other diagnostics and services. My tools consist mostly of Craftsman, a few Stanley, Snap-On, Husky, Pittsburgh, and S&K tools. Scan tools include hand held Actron(s) DVOMs, and test lights. I also currently use a Zurich ZR Pro, for advanced and bidirectional diagnostics as well as a Snap-On Verus Pro, for more detailed diagnostics. I'm always expanding my collection, based on need and convenience.

This, to me, is one of the finest videos I've seen of a brake job. The camera work is excellent. The gentleman doing the work does a superb delivery explaining procedures and gives clear suggestions for each part of procedure at hand. This is almost like a documentary and something anyone else making 'how to do videos' would gain insight. to both clarity and explanation. Thanks very much

I like to add a thin layer of anti-seize around the circular hub where the rotor mates up. That is a spot where the rust likes to fuse the two parts together.. Nice Job...👍

I have exactly the same car with the same brake problem. I would call you if it wasn‘t a few thousand miles away from my home. I have done a lot of break jobs myself over the years on different cars. But this is the best explanation I have ever seen. And I watched dozens of videos. I highly respect your boldness. No fancy garage, no gloves even outside in the cold. Still doing the best job. Man, I take my hat off to you.

This is an excellent video. My daughters brakes need replacing, and she lives 600 miles away, so I can't just run over to help. I thought of flying, because it would still be cheaper than what the shop was going to charge. Anyway, she found this video and is now confident enough to do them herself (with probably a few calls in between). She sent me the video to review it for her, and it is spot on. No fancy tools, just what most of us have in our garage. I'll give an update when she's done.

@HouseCallAutoRepair My daughter did her brakes, and she only had 2 problems, with one of them my fault. I told her to turn the bolts counter-clockwise. She called me "I can't get the bolts off." DOH! The only other problem was getting the drum off because it was frozen. Once I reminded her I gave her a sledgehammer, no trouble! It was smooth sailing from there. Lots of calls and some video calls, and she did it. You made a great video. Thanks.

Best detailed video on doing a brake job I have ever seen. One great idea I picked up was putting anti-seize on the caliper bracket slots where the anti-rattle brackets go. In the past I have had to use a dremel tool to remove the rust from the caliper bracket slots just to get the new anti-rattle brackets to fit. I also appreciated that you worked outside in real world conditions. You proved that even an old geezer like me can learn new things. Take care and have a grrrreat day!!!

@@HouseCallAutoRepair I successfully finished this yesterday. It really is a pretty easy one. I find the most helpful thing with these types of videos is whether there are any special, specific, tools for the job that I wouldn't have. Hey, thanks again.

Thanks for explaining the part about the clips, other videos missed those small details and were annoying to troubleshoot through!

Excellent video. Very detailed. I always like to do my own work on my vehicles. I have to do the rear brakes on my 2015 Rav4 for the first time this weekend. Glad I found your video. Should have no problem with it now. Thanks.

Wow, that Rav4 has some "flavor". Going to upgrade my rear brakes as well to Hawk Talon and Hawk HPS pads this week. You forgot the "rubber/silicon" safe grease for the piston boot. At least what the "Toyota" way states in the Rav4World forum. Helped with my previous 2010 Rav4 Base and my current 2018 Rav4 XLE. Great video, though.

Great video with good points I didn't know you could jack the RAV4 up on the points you use. You can also use the 2 factory jack points one in front and one on the back. A taller jack height is required however hence your method is good!

I avoid using the body pinch welds as much as possible (factory jacking points) They're generally only good enough for lifting one wheel, high enough to change it. I always go for the strongest points that I can access, (Frame to body mounts, and suspension support points)
