Hey Gent... ...Fair comment..... *But*.(Isn't there always) For a lot of people it's the road test that REALLY matters. My next bike is likely the latest BMW S1000R (When I buy...Notice the lack of R's) I was hoping that Yammy done the business though and they look like they have. Look forwards to the road tests. The Gixxer is still an amazing machine..

Blah! Yeah you're right of course, how many riders actually take their bikes onto a track? I would have thought though on the road there will be nothing between any of them besides comfort and maybe practicality. I'd love to see your on the S1000r, fantastic bike.
@MotoErgoSum
@MotoErgoSum 9 жыл бұрын
What makes me laugh a bit is that there isn't much mention of rider SIZE with regard to comfort. They really need a wide range of body types doing these shootouts. If they don't have a short fatty, tall fatty, short skinny, and tall skinny to offset the opinions, they're not doing much of a comfort test. Unless you're riding 300+ mile days on a regular basis on a superbike, it's a tad laughable to rate a motorcycle based on that aspect. I care a lot more about safety features, confidence-inspiring handling, fuel economy, is it easy to work on, manufacturer warranty support, etc. This test was a bit blasé. "We rode bikes. We thought these were marginally better than those."

Given the amount of data and success Yamaha has collected in racing over BMW I would have been surprised if the R1 didn't get better lap times. BMW raised the bar in 2010 but also benefited from an economy that put the Japanese makes on hold for a while. Now that bike sales are back and running it should get very interesting. Look for that new RSV4 though when they release it. It should be a serious contender to the R1. It's also now Honda's and Suzuki's turn to step it up.

All I care to know is which is the most economical fuel wise because honestly these are all great bikes! Most people never take bikes to the track and just joy ride them so I don't know why these guys show which is the fastest etc when most people who buy a bike don't look at that. Most individuals will look at the bike which feels best when they seat on it, most comfortable, reliability history of the brand and that they can reach the floor if the seat isn't too high. Very few people buy bikes based on these comparisons.

I'm a bimmer fan myself, but the BMW fanboys here crack me up. Why is it so hard to believe the outcome? Yamaha dominates in SBK and has for years. SBK uses real R1 and S1000rr bikes. Then they modify them. They all have the same potential. The BMW dominating the road is merely attributed to the fact BMW gave the public a bike closer to sbk performance than the other manufacturers were/are willing to do. Again, I can't understand why this is difficult to comprehend.

Haha I read some of the comments below and a couple of people asked why you did not include the Kawasaki H2. I think they have a point, This is a Street legal super bike comparison test so even if a bike does not meet the sbk regulations just like the Panigale 1299 S it should be included in the Comparison. Maybe you could not get hold of one but that should be explained in the video just like you did with the Rsv4 and MV :D By the way, Gratts for being the first on KZfaq to test those machines :D

Your Fast Life! I dont think so, h2 is after all a bike aimed att performance and more of a sport like riding. the zx14r and hayabusa and the bmwk1300 something is more of a sport tourer in other words like a grand tourer car.
@yourfastlife
@yourfastlife 9 жыл бұрын
Pillokun The H2 is aimed at EXACT same thing as any hyper bike. It's just so amazing that people like you keep thinking of it as a supersport. It's like imagine if Harley found some way to make one of it's bike super light (for a harley) and maneuverable and it looked sporty but was still a cruiser. Many people would confuse it for a supersport and ask why it's not on the test. You can't just take a busa or zx14r and make them lighter and expect them to compete againt even light still AND purspose built RACE bikes. The H2 was NOT built as a race bike but all those others were. Like other hyperbikes, it's supposed to be FAST and more comfortable. It would not have as aggressive ergo like these bikes. Bottom line...different class. Putting H2 with these bikes would be like putting these bikes in a top speed test with the H2.

Really cool to see the Yamaha win this. I had an R6 for 7 years, and when I was ready to upgrade to a liter bike, I was set on the R1 - until I compared everything on the market. I just couldn't settle for what was surely to be the last iteration of the R1 before a re-launch. I had no doubts that the ZX-10R ABS was the right bike at the right time, but that R1 sure does look sweet for 2015.

srinivasan krishnamoorthy BMW revamped the s1000rr in 2015 so much it doesn't feel like the same bike as 2009-2014 s1000rr. BMW did this to attempt to stay on top yet still could not. Yamaha had proven what I've been saying for years. The s1000rr isn't anything special. BMW was just simply giving the public more sbk performance than the Japanese manufactures. Honestly, why do you think BMW dominates the roads but not the race circuit? Because, the BMW engine has less potential for improvement. Never seen an s1000rr pull away from a graves r1 in the straights. They all produce the same power.

I'm so proud of Yamaha, finally they are back at the top, and I'm not even that big of a fan! I love seeing these comparisons, and I'm excited to see how Suzuki and Honda are going to react, after all, they haven't done anything new since 08-09. I think the 1299 would be my bike of choice though. With all these bikes I'd need to finance, but I think I could stomach an extra 150 bucks a month to own that panigale!!!

Federico Ruttkay Well I don't know all the details on that but I'm not saying that some bikes don't actually suck but in general the biggest investment in motogp is in the riders. All those bikes are awesome for the most part. They are all capable of winning. What holds the bikes back it the rider on it. Also, are you suggesting that Rosi was CONSISTENTLY winning on Honda, then got on Yami and CONSISTENTLY lost?
@future62

The riders definitely make a difference, but nobody could win on an old Ducati or an open class bike. My point was, the old R1 was pretty heavy and slow. This new R1 is more reflective of what Yamaha is capable of, as shown by their WCs in MotoGP.

Unfortunately I want the street King, which is a well known fact that BMW is the undisputed king of the street!! Not the best track bike, which we all knew Yamaha was going to be the best track bike, but in all honesty most of us, ride our bikes on the street. I would much prefer to have the top end power of the BMW versus the mid range power of the new Yamaha r1. I have the dyno sheets of the new r1 here in the states and it is way under powered compared to the Ducati or the Bmw. I know this publication gives the award to the biggest spender so therefore Yamaha obviously gave them a huge donation! Sorry but it's been proven time and time again, Yamaha is a fantastic circuit track bike because of its mid range power but it lacks the top speed and top end power of the Ducati or Bmw any real biker knows that. Sad to say these publications don't provide accurate information to the general public. I have a track bike as well as a regular riding street bike, but these comparisons are biased and based mostly on circuit track performance not for your average rider or actual street performance. The Bmw or even the Kawasaki zx10r will out perform the new Yamaha on the street anyday of the week!! Cancelled my subscription

I've only tried the R1, the CBR and the BMW and for the track the R1 by a country mile, but on the road for an afternoon blatt I'd take the BMW, its more comfy and felt more together when I was filtering it through traffic. That said if I wanted a track day bike I'd have a HP4 mostly because it fits me better than the R1 which I found very uncomfortable after about 40 minutes. Although not in the same class as the BMW or the R1, if I was buying a ltr superbike as a regular rider, the CBR was the one I spend on, it was great on the road, fun on the track and it was by far the most comfortable of the three.

Now, Honda and Suzuki have to come out with better bikes with electronics. Kawi has a good TC and power but no QS which could easily be installed. It;s good to hear the R1 has ripped a hole in the BMW but the beemer has Cruise/ auto blipper/ time lane limiter (would be hilarious for street use) which would be fun to toy around with. The Gale is an amazing machine. The RSV4 will most likely take the crown of all these bikes. They should do dealer support with these tests. LOL. Aprilia would be last.

Who needs HP on the track when you've been engineered to instill confidence in your navigator which produces quicker lap times consistently? Ladies and gentleman "ALL WE NEED IS ONE BIKE"! Sunday tune into the most elite level of motorcycle racing on this planet. You saw him scraping elbows last year. If you don't know now, you'll never know.

I'm glad to see MotoGP techology trickling down to the street bikes. The thing is that there will ALWAYS be a newer bike that is faster, quicker or handles better and takes the top spot. The great majority of riders don't have the skill to ride any of these sport bikes at their limit so these power and lap time comparisons are just an exercise in futility like a d##k measuring contest. Buy the bike that you feel comfortable riding and that has the looks you like and just enjoy the ride!

Nice to see all these bikes head to head so soon in the season. A couple gripes though. The Honda (and even the Suzuki) definitely DO have enough power to get you into trouble at the track. I had no problem breaking the back end loose on my old Gixxer 1000 even in pretty quick corners if I wasn't careful - some TC would have been a godsend on that thing. Hell, even on my 600 I had before it. I'm also wondering why your videos look like they're filmed with a potato even with dudes standing around with such nice equipment. Invest in a new camera and you'd be golden :). Nice to see Yamaha back on top though - I think the next few years are going to be pretty sweet for the liter bike scene. Curious to see what Suzuki and Kawasaki are gonna answer back with.

I would like to point out that the lap times given here among 6 bikes (2:24) appear to be from one person on the same bike. Did these guys even bother rotating each bike to see if they would perform better on another make? Each driver rides different, each bike performs and handles different. If this procedure was done, then they should show how each driver perfomed on every bike. To me that would sound like a more valid test. For all we know those lap times were based on one race! If i'm wrong please let me know. Oh and one more thing, what was the other riders' thoughts on the rest of the bikes as well?

As already commented on, different publications will get different results based on the different track configurations and rider biases. It's an emotional purchase so just buy whichever bike suits your bias. As for the BMW, the MCN snobs have a hard-on for this thing. It could test last and they'd still pick it 1st or 2nd. The S1K has always lost to the Aprilia and Ducati around the track in every test since 2012. Why is anyone surprised it gets crushed? BTW if you buy the magazine you'll see the Kawasaki is faster than the BMW in the quarter mile.

Bike comparisons should be about witch is the better bike period.. The Ducati shoudn't lose points in the comparison because of a higher price tag.. And you could rate the bikes for road and track use separately in the final verdict section.. (Obviously the Panigale is not meant to be a comfortable road bike)
@phoenix1925
@phoenix1925 9 жыл бұрын
when you're compairing top bikes of each brand and want to find out which is the best, the comparison should be absolute.(not price dependant). I agree that a bike shouldnt lose or gain points by the price in an absolute grading system, but the value of something is defined by its quality/price. So if you're searching what bike to buy value is the criterion and not the absolute grade.(unless you're really rich..so you buy the best of the best). For example for naked midleweights the street-tripleR is said to be the best but its expensive. i would give mt-09 far higher value than street-3ple. those Brits will still put the Street on top of everything but that's an other story...

I love my 2008 R1. However, I thought Yamaha would continue to NOT increase the power and reduce weight every year (since 08 they've gotten fatter, less fuel efficient and less powerful) . Finally Yamaha comes out with a bike that has more power than the 07-08 years as well as some great electronics!

This is a well made comparison but it feels more like a teaser because we didn't see the lap times for the R1M and the Panigale R.. I'm mostly interested about the lap times. With my math the Panigale R is faster than the R1M because the R1M has the same engine as the R1M and the Panigale R is lighter than the S and has a race tuned engine and shorter gearing and more adjustments on the chassis..

Onoff314 haha exactly. I wonder how many people in this thread are actually going to track one of these brand new bikes and ride it even close to its limits. My guess is few to none. I have a 10 year old piece of crap for riding hard (aka crashing) at the track - I ride my babies at about 75%ish when they do make it to a track since replacing one pushing it's limits isn't something my wallet really wants to absorb right now. Plus, it's still a thrill even without pushing my luck.

It would have been better if he just said he lilked the beemer and wanted one just because he liked it ? anyhoo its as if yamaha went for a few beers and called up the beemer factory and said.....how dare you...and then came back with that latest R1 heh heh.. and did the R1m just to really tear everyone several new assholes.... heh heh ...i like it.
