Probably one of the most overlooked bikes out there. Not as much off road oriented than a GS, but not far off. The reliability and service intervals blow the rest out of the water. It’s such a great value, I’ve watched people take these on the BDRS, side by side with GS, triumph, and does just fine. Yes it is heavier than some in its class, but not by much. The cost to buy, and just the reliability compared to the others that are 7-8,000 more, it’s a great bike!

Hey yall! to clear up the few things about the bike. it has a TON of suspension adjustment and i typically ride about 70% highway 30% offroad so its sets up to be smooth on both highway (big bumps) and Offroad soft surfaces. Secondary: the little whistle/squeaking is coming from the fuel tank. the rubber bushings it sits on are a bit worn after 8 years. But as I stated in the CARDO spot. i LOVE it.

I bought a 2012 in 2019 with 3000 miles and have loved it, I have owned 7 other bikes since I got back into riding in 2015 and haven't loved any of them like I love the Super Tenere. The only down side is that I didn't get a newer version with electronic cruise control. On the bright side I've loved taking long trips without packing the chain lube and chain cleaner. Chase didn't take it off road but there are guys who do and have found it to be quite capable, I'm planning some fire road and trail riding this summer and I'm also planning on doing an Iron butt.

I had one, sold it, and just bought another one. One of the most comfortable bikes I've ever owned. The softer suspensions are what make it ideal for touring. In the city you can use the rear brake to help reduce the nose dive.

I just bought a 2013 in October with 10k miles. She’s not *that* fast but she can get going quick. A little heavy as mentioned. But does well at 90+ and can still do some mild off roading. Reliability is great, mpg is 30 mpg doing 90. So, not a bad bike. Been my daily rider through all types of weather and hasn’t skipped a beat.
@ChavsADV
@ChavsADV 10 ай бұрын
Is the fuel mileage really that bad? I find that hard to swallow considering a Harley gets like 40 at the same speed and other bikes in its class are rated at about 50. That would give you a realistic range of 150 miles which is really bad
@Wecouldusemorethinking
@Wecouldusemorethinking 10 ай бұрын
@@ChavsADV I changed the air filter and dropped the side cases and get consistent 37 now. Most range I’ve gotten is 210 miles with 5.5 gallons. I ride consistently at 4500:-5000 rpm in 6th gear which equates to 80-90mph, the Speedo is off from the factory. Not great, but with its versatility, speed, reliability, and can ride it through all types of weather, there’s not much to realistically desire. Mpg drastically improves if going with the flow of traffic, but I’d rather not die 😂

@@Wecouldusemorethinking Thanks for the update. I'm considering this bike for its fair price and and hitting all the boxes I need. I was shooting for a BMW but I would like if I could keep my Z900rs and get an ADV touring bike.
@NunyaBusiness...
@NunyaBusiness... 7 ай бұрын
@@ChavsADV If you look them up on fuelly, most people are at or above 40 MPG, and they are only rated for 45 to start with. Adding gear, putting on knobbier tires, going faster, etc. will all take a toll, but with a 6 gallon tank it will do alright. If you can pull 40 that gives a max range of 240 miles. Fuelly for the 2023 BMW 1250 GS show an average of around 41 MPG, and they have a smaller tank. The Super Tenere is definitely competitive on the fuel economy front for a shaft driven +1200cc powered ADV bike. However, if you don't need the big bike and you want great fuel economy, check out the Honda CB500X. I'm not complaining about my 70 MPG average during the 600 mile break in. I don't like the vibrations it gets over 70 MPH through, so I'm looking at upgrading to a Super Tenere to have a smooth ride with no chain maintenance.

@@ChavsADV I took mine (2015) cross country loaded to the gills last summer. Set the cruise at 80 or a little more and I got upper 30's/low40's for the most part. Upper 40's at a relaxed two-lane speed. IIRC I ran it about 230 miles on one tank and still had half a gallon in the tank when I filled it up. I was really hyper-miling towards the end, though, because the gauge had been blinking at me for awhile. But the range gauge is inaccurate to the point of being useless. Great bike overall despite a few minor quibbles.

I got a 2013 from my friends in the Yamaha racing division so it has never seen a dealer, the only major repairs were self-induced as I did not put the kickstand down fully while fueling and when bumped it fell between two vehicles at a crazy angle that pushed in the headlight, windscreen, light support and even side damage with crash guards in place. Aside from that the bike is flawless. Even with the stock seat 500 mile days were enjoyable. Not my bike of choice above fire road difficulty. Because I prefer 2 lane roads over freeways there is usually construction and that is where this bike shines and the weight is an advantage when going through the California desert winds necessary to get to other states.

Love the intro. ST is a great highway touring machine. It is also a great off-road machine, despite the naysayer influencers who don't own one. Compare on and off road with a BMW then compare cost, reliability, maintenance. Wouldn't trade my 2014 for anything. The suspension does not wiggle and go all over the place. It is a solid machine. Mine does 90 with no wiggling. It's a pig on its side. Practice picking it up as with all your motorcycles. I'll take mine on any road BMW, KTM, HUSKY, TRIUJPHS

The engine plate is the Yamaha Accessories plate. It's "ok", but don't expect it to be a proper skid plate. The rear mount bolt goes into the bottom of the engine, so you risk cracking the cases if you put too much weight or impact on the plate. I have the 2017 model of this bike. Yamaha does still make it, but only in North America. They've discontinued it for Europe. Should also add that, as nice as that gear indicator is, it actually isn't all that useful since it doesn't tell you anything until you're already in gear and moving.

You're looking for a unicorn. There is no such thing as a "little light" "big ADV" bike. 23:30 That doesn't exist, especially not with a shaft drive. You can have light, or you can have big, but not both. The Tenere 700 is over 450 pounds, and even the "tiny" CB500X is 430-ish pounds. Sure, that is relatively light compared to the "big" behemoth liter bikes. The KTM 1290 Adventure R is about 490 pounds, and that's LIGHT for that size of bike. All of these are fat compared to stuff like a CRF300L Rally that comes in around 335 pounds. Thank you for the review, though. It's so hard to find current info on the Super Ten. It's just glossed over because it's not titillating on paper.
