I have installed the 50" 5d LED windshield bar from Freedom LED along with the Steel Brackets from Rago Fabrication. I absolutely love it, both products are top quality and can be purchased from Rago Fabricaton.com
In the video I will show you the tools that are required to install the brackets and bar onto my 5th generation 4runner, a 2016 Trail Premium. I will also show you how to wire the bar so that the wire is virtually invisible, taught to me by Mario Rago himself.
Check out my Switchpros Switch Panel install here: theroninchronicle.com/switch-p...

Great vid thanks. Just a suggestion if you care...when you run the wire through the firewall, have enough excess to hang a drip loop as the wire comes out into the engine bay. That way gravity does not let water run through your engine wall. Please disregard if missed you doing this. Cheers!

Instead of a unibit you could’ve just piloted the hole with a smaller drill bit then follow with the 13/32 to finish. Reduces risk over over boring the hole

Best installation video on KZfaq. I never knew about cert nuts, and was wondering how I was going to thread the bolts in. 13:07 I'd recommend getting insulated style connectors. Also using the right style helps too. Those fork connectors are not meant to install in those female connectors. Fork terminals are used on screw down terminal block. Time for some high quality crimpers too. www.delcity.net/ is a good source for wiring supplies

If I may. Most vehicles are floating grounds. So the neutral could be attached to any metal surface close by the light. Maybe even under the screw used to mount the light. This would allow you to only run one wire for the power. Just a thought. Otherwise your install looked great.

I have a video that you can see here for them: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hr6GpZucs77DoIU.html they require filing the housing just a bit since the base of the bulbs are so big. Or just use elbow grease like I did, was pretty hard actually. You can get Hids that will fit better and be brighter too. I just really like these tho.

@steveforbes7718
@steveforbes7718 4 жыл бұрын
That was well done. Plenty of good information. However, the connectors used at the light bar end were incorrect. You had female spade connectors which should be used with male spade connectors. (Forget the obvious jokes!) Instead, you installed connectors that are for use with screws on things such as power supplies and such. Also, it would have been better if you had admitted that you made a mistake when you wired everything on the outside of the bracket then had to do it all over again to show the harness installed correctly. I nice opportunity for some tongue in cheek humor was missed. LOL The only real problem is that those light bars are made from a very rare element. It's called "Unobtainium"! At several thousand buckazoids those are just not affordable to many of us. So, once again, the boat of dreams must be dashed upon the rocks of reality. Even with the financial wall of impedance getting in the way, those of us who must use equipment that is not as expensive can make good use of this video. All things considered, you did well.

The other thing you could of done when soldering your wires is cut one lead an inch or 2 longer so the two soldered connections are offset and don't make such a big bulge. I solder the wires on my motorcycle electrical extras, but my aircraft maintenance friends tell me soldered connections are not allowed on airplanes due to vibration induced fatigue. They only use crimped connections. Great video, just got a 2016 trail premium and an looking for ideas for "things." Have you done any suspension work yet?

Yeah, its ridiculous to purchase a "trail premium" model and have it come with street tires. I guess that's Toyota's way of motivating a buyer to get a TRD Pro model. But then the trail premium comes with some everyday stuff that the TRD pro does not. Plus those TRD Pros are hard to find (according to my sales person). I'm just starting to look at suspension parts. Its complicated and somewhat pricey. A little taller would be better for off-roading. Not that I'm taking the brand new 4Runner off road just yet...

Hey! So I just finished wiring mine but my kit came with the positive and ground both connecting to the positive and negative ends of the battery instead of grounding it. But the led bulb in the switch stays on even when the car is off and I can turn the bar on when it is off too. Is this because I did not ground the negative? And is it draining my battery with the switch bulb always on?

So I go on the rago fab website to order same setup for my 2018 4runner. But only options for curves bars are 42inch or 54inch ? U say that ones 50inch ? Would like to know so I can place order.

Hello, it is possible that they no longer offer the 50" Curved bar from Freedom LED for this application. They do still sell the brackets though. The bar is 50" curved but it actually measures 52" if you factor the curve in there. You should contact them to see if they have any remaining bars or if they offer something else instead. They have great service, I'm sure you will get a prompt reply. Thanks for watching!

Can these door brackets work with a straight normal lighbar (not curved light bar) ?

Hello! Im pretty sure they only work with the curved bar. But you can contact rago fabrication and see if its possible to use a straight bar with them or if they make a set that is compatible. Thanks for watching!

hi, is it possible to mount the light bar w/o drilling if ur just mounting it temporarily and not permanently? Like for example, just mounting when ur going out to a dark trail....

Hello! As far as I know, drilling is required to mount the brackets to hold the bar on the windshield. The hidden bumper bar doesnt require drilling but does require cutting some inner plastic parts and removing the bumper. If you get a good set of HID low beams and fog lights, it should help out a lot if you dont wish to dismantle or drill anything.

Guess you just have to shut the front doors and get in from the rear doors if u don't wanna drill holes for the bracket lol. I have this 4runner (exact same year, trim level, and even color) as yours. I have front LED high and low beam, fog light, + led turn signal switchback light. So what's the reason you switch from HID to LED?

haha that would be funny! When I first got this truck, I damaged the old HID bulbs swapping them over at the dealership when I traded in my 2015 4runner 2WD for this one. So I needed to get new lights and decided to try their new Razir LED products. Now I do feel that the LED's arent as bright while driving in the city, so I am actually switching back to HID. I have a new HID kit already but want to make another video for it so I havent done it just yet. I'm finishing up my corvette light videos right now. Hopefully I can do it this week

I hope hidextra.com will still accept your 15% off promo code after you finish making the HID kit vid for their product :). If yes I'll definitely be ordering that kit from them as well if you think their product works out well for you...

The coupon code has been active since last summer and they sponsored most of my corvette lights also so I think as long as my videos are up, it will be active. I have been using their HID kits since 2010, never had any issues with any of the cars I had them in. They are great products and a great company for sure! Thanks for watching!

Hello, everything was well done by the time you cut the electrical cable that leads from the LED lights to the required places. You could have left the wiring in its original condition.

If i did, it wouldnt have been slim enough to fit into the channel next to the windshield.

I would love to have this in Virginia, The only problem is, it is ILLEGAL unless there is a cover over it. Because Virginia considers for off-road use.

I don't see why you couldn't just run the ground to the mount (chassis ground) and run the hot to the light?
