Something to add, is if you blow your belt be sure to check snorkel vents for pieces before reassembling the clutch. You don't want to miss any the first time Hahaha. I've learned that the hard way of course

Thanks for the tip Man! Thanks for checking the video out!

Advise from a fellow XMR owner. Each time you change a belt on a Can-Am you want to pull the clutches apart, blow them out good with compressed air then scuff each sheeve down with a scotch bright pad with soap and water. Up and down direction only until the surface is no longer shinny and has no marks in it. You really want to remove that glaze. The Maverick 212 belt is far superior to the standard belt. Break in is key with the new belt, give it about 5 heat cycles and allow it to cool down during those cycles, no full throttle or abrupt throttle jerking. If you follow all these steps the belt will last you a while. You did good to get 1,300km's on your factory belt.

Thanks Man! I did blow out the clutches and did the break in but I forgot to scotch bright the clutch surface! It's all a learning process, maybe someday I'll get better at this! Thanks for watching!

Hey no worries Rob, just wanted to highlight the process I use when I do mine.

wow this was very descriptive! i destroyed my factory belt at 1500 km. i will check for the maverick belt compatibility with 2017 1000R. i feel like i have to open it all again :P

Yup, what a pain, that's why I did some mods to my side panel & floorboard as well as the footpeg ... I can do a belt change in about 30 minutes now ... and a lot less work if you have to do it in the bush. I've actually had to change my belt twice while out tracking ... so .... I also change my belts before every winter ... don't want to push my luck while out in the deep snow. I also take some emery cloth to the clutch sheaves & wipe them down with an alcohol rag & then blow out any belt dust with an air nozzle. I also use emery cloth on the side of the belt to rough it up a little as well as wash it in soapy water to remove any oil residue. Now, do I need to those things, not sure, but I do. Well, good job on the belt change & getting to know your machine .... LET'S RIDE !!!

Sounds like all good advice Gunny! I don't think I'm ready to drop the cash for new clutches, so probably going band-aid with a Dalton Clutch Kit for now! I put 40kms on the new belt to break it in as they say to do but it still didn't make a difference! I'll have to clean it up and rough it up next time I take it apart! I did do a little cutting on the footwell to make it easier to take out if I have to now! Thanks for commenting and watching!

A good learning vid, Those push pins are a pain lol. XMARGH offered some good tip's as well. Good vid thx 4 sharing.

Yeah, buy lots of spare push pins I learned! LOL! Thanks for watching Darryl!

Get you the pair of plastic rivet pliers at harbor freight. Great little set. $12 i think. After 3-4 uses they start breaking but these make it way easier to remove and save.

There is a specialty tool for removing the black pins. A curved fork tool that is sold at Canadian tire. Works like a charm.
@RobFarrowATV4 жыл бұрын
I do have something like that now and I also leave most of the pins out now...no need for most of them! LOL! Thanks Dave!
@yannkitson1167 жыл бұрын
That was a lot of work... you should get a GY6 scooter instead all you need is to remove the 11 screws in the CVT cover the rest is more or less the same. Thanks for sharing :D
@RobFarrowATV7 жыл бұрын
LOL! Would be easier for sure! Thanks for watching Yann!

Good vid , helpful and saved . Total time , how long did it take you to change out ?
@RobFarrowATV7 жыл бұрын
Not sure, as I was doing video at the same time and had to do some of it over but figure probably half hour or so to change the belt! Really it's not too bad when it comes down to it! Thanks for watching!
@FranksDIY7 жыл бұрын
so did you test it out was the new belt any different in performance. And i took out some of the paneling on my xmr to run winch cables and while they look great it is a pain.
@RobFarrowATV7 жыл бұрын
You'll see in the next video! LOL! Just let me say, I wasn't impressed! Thanks for watching Frank!
@boxerboggs187 жыл бұрын
just a thought. the old belt may be a little longer due to it being broke in. not saying they did or didnt give you a shorter belt.
@RobFarrowATV7 жыл бұрын
That's what I was thinking...I'll be checking this belt soon, so I'll see if that's the case now since this belt has been run since last fall! Thanks for tuning in!

Did you replace the gasket on it after you pulled the housing off the belt
@RobFarrowATV5 жыл бұрын
No, just have to clean it and reseat it properly and I've never had it leak! Pulled off the cover many times now and never had an issue...just clean the rubber gasket seal and clean the housing where it goes in and on the lip where it seals to the other part of the housing. Just remember the bolts are shoulder bolts and when they stop turning they are seated and don't need any torquing!

How do you repair high beam switch sho w with videos
@RobFarrowATV2 жыл бұрын
I no longer have that atv...I would start by checking if the high beam is burnt out first. Not sure if you can take apart and clean up the switch but you can try. If that doesn't work you may need a new switch depending on the issue. Good luck!

You didnt notice the secondary rotating at idle ? Makes for nasty gear engagements.
@RobFarrowATV5 жыл бұрын
Ya, actually I did notice that...I've since put on a CVTech primary. Doesn't spin now! Thanks for tuning in!

Hi, i have big problem with my can am outlander 1000r xmr , i changed two belts in last 2 months wich means one month one belt i dont do wheelie or something like that but it breaks so often pls help should i buy maverick belt and put it on my outlander and what i should do before i installed it pls help .
@RobFarrowATV4 жыл бұрын
The Can Am stock clutches are the main problem, a Clutch Kit or full aftermarket clutches are the way to go. I don't know what kind of riding you do but if you get stuck and try and force the wheels to spin, that will damage the belt. I'm not sure why your belt would be breaking though, something might me out of alignment on the Clutches. Maverick belts are good but not without aftermarket clutches. Good luck with your issue!

Rob Farrow ATV thanks man , i ride forest trails not a lot of mud

A little tougher than changing the belt on the Brute eh?

A little bit yeah but still wasn't too bad. Only difference is that the Brute is still on the same belt as when I bought it! LOL! Thanks for watching!

Where did you get the 70 mm bolt ?
@RobFarrowATV4 жыл бұрын
I think I picked it up at an automotive store but not 100% sure. You can also find them on Amazon.ca www.amazon.ca/s?k=can+am+clutch+bolt&ref=nb_sb_noss
@destrik5 жыл бұрын
Wierd that they gave you 715900023 brp has it listed “traxter” under compatibility. Maybe next time try 422280364, 20$ more, but is 100% pbo and actually has a compatibility list saying “ Maverick, Maverick MAX, G2, G2L, G2S, Commander, Commander MAX” it seems to be the belt everyone recommends that I’ve talked to
@RobFarrowATV5 жыл бұрын
Ya, that was the old company that handled BRP...got it all straightened out now and running Maverick HD Belt! Thanks Man and thanks for checking the vid out!

What are the exact tools needed
@RobFarrowATV4 жыл бұрын
The only tools I need are an 8mm socket with an extension driver and a ratchet with I believe a 13mm socket to fit the M8x1.25x80mm bolt for the secondary clutch...You might need more tools to take off the footwells but I don't have to remove mine.
@mitchkmccontracting11157 жыл бұрын
hey man. im changing my belt right now. just blew it up lmao. what exact size of bolt did you use. metric thread or impérial. and what diameter
@RobFarrowATV7 жыл бұрын
Off hand, I think it was an Metric M8 x 1.25 bolt about 90mm long, good luck, hope this helps!

Good to know Can-ams are metric lol They are Canadian made right ? . If I ever get a Can-am I'll definitely follow this video .

Mexico oh no don't tell Trump that we wont have anymore Can-am's out here and will probably be really expensive lol
@RobFarrowATV7 жыл бұрын
LOL! They are really expensive already, a lot more than they pay in the States! And that's not because of the dollar difference either...pretty sad!
@MrSappo017 жыл бұрын
Interesting, I didn't know that . Even thought they may cost more up here , I'm so happy to be Canadian right now lol

Where do you get the bolt from?

A buddy of mine gave it to me, I believe it's an M8 90mm long. Not sure if you are able to get one from a hardware store, might have to look online for one. Hope you can find one! Thanks for watching Dan!

Can ams are bad for belts. Yamahas clutches are bullet proof. You rarely have to change the belt. I have a 2016 grizzly and I have 3000 Kms with no belt problems
@RobFarrowATV7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that seems to be the general thought on the Can-Ams! Don't think I want to spend the money on new clutches, so might just put a clutch kit in for now! Thanks for watching Nathan!
@nathanpaul22987 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the great videos! Keep it up with the mudding videos! haha... A clutch kit should help a lot with the belt slippage and wear. You could also ask the dealer about putting a can am maverick belt on it. those might be a little better for turning those big tires!
@RobFarrowATV7 жыл бұрын
I think I'm going to settle for the Dalton Clutch kit for now and try a Gates Carbon Belt...part of the winter project for the bike!
@nathanpaul22987 жыл бұрын
Good idea to wait for winter. Ride as much as you can before the snow falls for a long winter. Gives you lots of time to figure out what you want to do
