What I really like is the fact you dont take it apart without filming and then film everthing as if its easy to do. You are great to watch and if I lived in Canada I would buy a landy off you simply because you take everything apart and check it. THANKYOU! You probably dont know howmany people you have helped overcome what seems like insurmountable problems. Dont stop.

Said it was done in Seattle. Looks like it was held in by some sort of adhesive used by Boeing.

from the sound it is clearly a Pacific steam locomotive going up hill , we may here the sound of the steam with a good ear !!! or a kaputt broken cross pin in the diff , trying to make more room in the diff...

Ooooh!, Can I have a guess Mike? I think it looks a lot like a Brinelled pinion shaft bearing/bearings, someone has overtightened the pinion shaft nut and collapsed the crush spacer more than spec.

My wife’s 2009 90 had a similar noise on the overrun. It was the single cross pin incessantly shearing its securing roll pin and sliding out to one side, so the end of the pin was only retained by the inside of the ring gear and was striking the end face of the pinion gear on each rotation. Why it kept breaking the roll pin I’m not sure, but I strongly suspect the holes in the diff centre had worn slightly oval so tiny movement of the cross pin under load would shear the roll pin and let the cross pin slide again. I couldn’t see any damage or war to the cross pin other than the tip where it struck the pinion. 110s have 4-pin (well, 2 pin really) diffs, so this should not happen, BUT, if one of the cross pins has snapped in the middle, it could cause the same issue, but it could just be banjaxed pinion bearings.

The rear Diff in these post-2002 Defender 110's is actually TBB000270 - Which was the 4 pin rear diff in the P38A's with the 4.6 V8.
@BritannicaRestorations
@BritannicaRestorations Жыл бұрын
Yes, but the P38 didn't have a weight of 3.5 Tonnes, maybe a set of golf bats in the back...

@@BritannicaRestorations True, and i have changed a few in 110's - usually the pinion bearing gives in allowing for spectacular noise levels and in-out play on the input flange.

Based on the go-pro video, it sounds like something's rubbing with every rotation of the rear wheels. Ring gear rubbing against the inside of the diff' housing? The roughness when you try to turn the pinion shaft would be when the pinion reaches the damaged part of the ring gear. A lot of american axles are much easier to set up than an LR axle so maybe the american workshop gave it a go and then, when they didn't get it right first time, they didn't fancy taking it all to bits again and this is the result?

*Smartass mode on* The oil seal (FTC5268) you mentioned is on inside of the hub axle. You can't remove him from the outside by tearing the half shaft out. *Smartass mode off* Ask me how I know:-)

What's with the "upgraded" one piece half shafts/flanges? If that's a good idea on a 110/130 why, as far as I know, did LR only do it on 90s?
