The mustang has bigger windows and visibility for safety reasons. It's to allow the drivers to see potential crowds they might hit.

for the last time, the 6.2L LT1 weighs 403 LBS its also 30% smaller and more compact than the 5.0. the 5.0 weighs 444 LBS and is quite a bit taller and wider thanks to the valves and cams.( the 50 weighs as much as the LT4) just because the displacement is larger THAT does not equal a physically larger or heavier engine in fact in this case its the opposite ironically.

+The Fast Lane Car Chevy claims their cars always have the track pack with all the coolers and big brakes they threw on the car stock. thats why the dang base price is 37 to 38k with no options vs 32 for the mustang.

You can't get around the fact that the Camaro is a lighter better sports chassis. I hate the interior but there is no denying its a pretty solid sports car with this generation.

As an owner of of 2 mustangs, I will say Chevy hit the nail on the head with the Camaro SS. The exterior is gorgeous, and the performance is awesome. Visibility is lacking in the Camaro, but he performance and handling more than makes up for that. Great job Chevrolet!

@@tacticalbt1023 Bigger trunk, better visibility, lower entry price. Doesn't make it a better car, it is a better value though. The Camaro is for people who want the best most aggressive platform. Most people like yourself require a softer car as a daily driver, the mustang is softer and easier to live with than the camaro. While the camaro eats it alive on the track.

I owned a 2015 5.0 base gt Mustang GT with a six speed and have driven the 2017 Camaro 2SS six speed manual and the Camaro is a better car. By far. Hurts me to say, because I am a Ford guy. But damn. A Camaro 2SS is my next car.

A modern road car shouldn't require you to "learn to drive it". And whether or not you get used to it or not, I still consider it to be a safety hazard.

Nighthawk2112 Every car is different and requires a hour or two to get used to it, same with the Camaro. Its not a safety hazard, I own a Camaro and its totally fine if you are a competent driver and know how to move your eyes to look at the mirrors. The only safety hazard with this car are bad drivers.

I sat in a Camaro and thought the visibility was terrible until I adjusted the seat height. Your eye level has a very small sweet spot in the camaro and you have to raise or lower the seat to get there.

I don't know why so many people complain about the visibility lol it is really not difficult to see out of at all. Plus chevy asked all the people who actually have to live with them and no one had a problem with the visibility. But I guess thats the only thing Mustang guys can find to hate on.

Although The Mustang Is The Calif. Special, It's Only the GT. The "GT" Is a Mid-Range Trim; In The Mustang's Trim Line-Up. Compared Camaro SS's Which is The Top Trim Level For The Vehicle, To Be 100% Fair The GT350R Is Fords Top Trim. So In A Way Its Kind Of Embarrassing That The Mid-Range Mustang Can Come Within 0.4 Sec. In 0-60 and 3.8 - 4.2 In Lap Time(s) To A Trimmed Out, Top-Of-The-Line Camaro SS. Also, The Camaro Looks Like A Toyota Corolla/Camry In The Front I'm Not Being Butt-hurt, Im Just Stating The Obvious Here

If You go to "www.chevrolet.com/" then "Vehicles", "Performance" , "Camaro" , "Build & Price" then choose a body style and look! its says "1LT, 2LT, 1SS, 2SS" So Either Your Wrong, Chevrolet Refuse to advertise The Z28, even if it isn't available for sale there should be AD's out the ass for the Z28, Or Their Website Is So Bad That It Doesn't Include All Trim Models. did they really treat that track battle as an even fight ? camaro had staggered SUMMER tires, while the mustang had all season tires. put some summer tires on the mustang and i bet it'll have better numbers on the track. man, these guys are biased as fuck.

We test them as they come from the manufacturer. BTW, Roman chose the Mustang GT.

9000 Miles on an all season tire vs 500 miles makes a difference. Those High Performance All Seasons only last about 20-25k miles. So they were already half used. That isn't from the manufacturer like that. Just a point. 15:01

Yes, they just did. They broke the first and most important rule of any comparison, without any particular reason.If they want the Camaro to win, they can also put flat winter tires and expired gas into the Mustang, to cripple it down even more.

Why didn't you get the Performance pack GT?? I'm curious to see a Performance pack, vs a non-performance pack GT around a track. And I realize you drive them "as is".........but you could at least mention "the Camaro does have stickier tires."

Off set not staggered which has to do with rim size not something they can fix unless they go after market which wouldn't be fare. Yes maybe they could have used summer tires on both, but expecting them to switch out the rims is unreachable given this was a test between versions that regular people would buy not track nuts.

I'm honored to be considered in the comparison, we shoot these in a few hours total including the studio and I only drive 3 laps in each car because we are little guys and don't have budget to replace tires etc.. As we grow we can continually improve what we do, thanks for watching :)

You should of used a GT with performance pack and summer tires. Camaro has a bigger displacement, it will still win, but alteast give the mustang a chance. I know its "stock for stock" but the Camaro has track pack built in with its base models. Which is why it cost more.

The Mustang should have at least had the Track Package, which is only a $2500 option, and the Mustang would still be cheaper than the Camaro even with the extraneous California Special package that just adds weight and cost. Without the proper tires and brakes this isn't a true head to head comparison. Granted, the Camaro would still beat out the Mustang even with the Track Pack, but I just have to point out that it's not a fair comparison. The Camaro SS can even compete with the GT350, which it better be able to since it costs almost the same.

Yeah but it takes Chevy to use 1.2l more and the corvette engine to compete. None the less it's faster but with some bolt on's on the mustang it should be able to keep up. I love the sound though but not a huge fan of Chevy interiors. For example the gauges on the corvette look so bland.

Mike it's true that the camero takes parts and pieces from its older sisters but it's still a sick car. As for the interior of the camero the only thing that bothers me is how the screen is slanted down wards. That being said I still wouldn't trade my mustang for a camero.

Dont forget it takes Ford a wider block, 32 Valves and 4 cams. while chevys uses half. Plz do some research at least before talking a 4cyl driver.

the seat lifts up considerably, to the point it's to high. I think it just gives them something to talk about cause I have a 16 camaro ss and I can adjust the seat to any position I want.

I agree 100%. I'm 5'7" & have NO problem seeing out of it. I had a 2015 5.0 with ford Racing suspension, exhaust, tuning, CAI & it made 405 HP to the wheels here in Albuquerque which is a mile above sea level. Now I have a 2016 Camaro SS & it made 395 to the wheels STOCK up here. The Mustang with the Ford Racing suspension handled just as well as the Camaro, but with a much more harsh ride. I love'em both though...

I drive my father in laws camaro sometimes and I too have trouble getting the seat adjusted. its either too low for me to see out of the vehicle well, or when i move it up, my hair is brushing the liner. im 6ft even

Does the altitude make that much of a difference? I get that the air is thinner, but I have a 2016 Camaro 2SS and I'm not a pro and I get 1 second better 0-60 times (or more)

does being 1 mile above sea level really drop the 0-60 by over a second? because most 0-60s im seeing for the camaro are right at 4.1 for the manual

The Stang is still the classic pony car - where it has evolved immensely from it origins. The Alpha based Camaro on the other hand feels like a four seat Vette when you drive it. They are nothing alike. Both are great, pick the one that fits you best.

Doesn't make since that a smaller 5.0L displacement engine makes MORE low end torque than a 6.2L. I think the difference is traction (or the Fords lack thereof). Also fresh tires are much better than slightly worn. Ford should have put better tires on the GT.

Which If Your Talking Cylinders This Is Fair, BUT The Issue Lies In You Comparing A Top Trim Level Camaro With A Mid-Range Trimmed Mustang. Let Me Break Down This Confusing Mess: A Good Example Is This. In This Example, The Camaro Will Be Alfa Romeo, And The Mustang Will Be A 2008 Ford Fusion SEL. Not Fair Right? But Since Both Have A V6 They Are Compared To Each-other Like They're Similar When They're Not. So A True Comparison Would Be The 2SS And A GT350R

+Austin Wilson Trim is one thing however, they are on the same levels based on engine choice options. This was a performance test so most magazines match engine per engine. If a particular suspension package gives one car an advantage over another, magazines try to also match the suspension trim to keep things even. Both last gen cars where matched GT to SS because of the available base engines. The boss was matched to the LT1 because both had the optional upgraded engines. Just because the LT1 isn't available yet doesn't mean the SS has to compare to the Gt350 as that car is Fords second / more powerfull V8 option.

RotaryPerfection The SS Is Currently The Camaro's Most Powerful Option When Building Your Own Camaro, What Has Gotten Lost In Translation Is Your Comparing Two Cars That Aren't Exactly Comparable. Don't Get Me Wrong, You Are 100% Correct About Their Way Of Comparing Cars, The Issue With That System Is Their Comparing The Best One Brand Offers, Versus The Mid-Ranged Option Of The Other. That Style Is A "One Fits All Style" This Creates A Problem When You Get Into Details Like; Weight, Steering, And Overall Performance Because I Can Guarantee That The GT Didn't Have As Much Time And Money Involved As The 2SS Has. Thats Where The Problem Originates, You Cant Compare 8,000 Man Hours To 6,000 Man Hours And Expect Better Quality Out Of Something That Hasn't Had A Chance To Be Perfected Like The Product That Has Had 2,000 More Man Hours (Im Sure There's More Hours Put Into Each) Its Not Either Cars Fault, Nor Is It Mine Or Yours. Its Who Ever Compared The Two In The First Place. Again, Love Both Cars, But They Shouldn't Have Been Compared Like This

Nice try guys. A Mustang without summer tires or the track pack is a strictly street car. The two cars are just not on the same level. I am very disappointed. This test proves nothing. Even with the track pack the Mustang may not have won. At least it would have been a fair race. At least give the Mustang summer rubber. The Mustang was so handicapped that the MX5 was faster.

+fatboy19831 these are two stock V8 cars equipped the way the come from the factory. It seems like many Mustang fans want us to give the stang an unfair advantage by upgrading the car with non stock tires and an upgraded performance package. Now that would be unfair. This test is completely apples to apples and we stand by our results! If you don't like the way Ford specs their Stock GT, you should complain to Ford....not us.

The base Mustang GT is there for one purpose. To simply be the fastest car you can buy for 30 grand. That is it. It is a whooping $4000 less than the Camaro SS. The GT package on the Mustang GT is an $2500 option. Not a non-stock upgrade.That includes 373:1 gears , upgraded spring, shocks, cooling,Summer rubber and Brembo brakes. Even after all that the GT would Still have a $1200 price advantage over the SS. The shorter gears would have closed the gap on acceleration. I know you can only test what is offered in the press fleet. $ for $ the two cars would have been equipped and optioned about the same. I still think the Camaro would have won. Then you would be down to less than a second difference. For your professional driver to say he thought the two cars would be closer when one is on all seasons vs summer tires? Old heads order the GT track pack all the time with no other options. Ford offers the GT package for folks that want to track their car. it also comes down to it having more grip, different gearing and at altitude, I was surprised as well, I did try launching it lower at first, it kept bogging until I got above 5k

Paul Gerrard perhaps it was the gearing difference. the GT has a 3.66 1st the SS has a 2.77 1st both with a 3:73 rear end.

mustang looks like a frumpy soft fusion coupe ill edit this in here: i actually like the mustang, the GT350 is one of my all time fav cars, but lets be real here, the SS is clearly better than the GT, give credit where credit is due. better interior, more performance, more sound from the exhaust, more show stopping looks, far more aggressive design, better driving dynamics, and it holds it will re-sale value far better ;)

There are way smaller motors than the 6.2L that make much more horsepower. 2.4L F1 engines were making 700+ horsepower.

The 5.0 is a physically larger and heavier engine. The 6.2L is more compact, lighter and the Liters primary affect torque.

+evilmuffen117 I'm pretty sure the OP was speaking of displacement and not dimensions. I know the Coyote is wider but the LS3 is taller. I think the Coyote is actually lighter than the LS3, someone correct me if wrong on that. Displacement effects horsepower as well as you have more volume to move more air. In simple terms, at least. This is why BBC ultimately can make more power than SBC and LSX stuff.

Good to hear that GM made improvements to the six speed shifter and clutch, I hear that most people don't like the action and engagement of the clutch and shifter of the older fifth gen Camaros. I've got a '10 SS with six speed auto and after driving a manual gearbox car for the last ten years, I like it but want back into a manual shift vehicle. I may be looking at one of these in a year or two after the '10 is paid off.

these cars came with what the factory puts on them. So it is a fair comparison as far as how you get the car from the factory. If the Mustang had new tires maybe it would have improved a bit but I appreciate it when the car I am buying has the tires that fit the car better. Why put all season tires on a sports car?

The SS Camaro is quicker And faster than the GT and the ford boys can cry about it all they want. The new SS is also quicker than the GT350 from 0 - 60 and quarter mile. Reason? Lighter weight and More Torque. Check out the real facts.

Ok, so maybe some of you who own a 2016 mustang can help me here (or even a Camaro for that matter because I'm torn between both). I'm 6'3 and have a longer torso with shorter legs (in pants size, my leg length would be about a 30-31 I'd say). Because I have a longer torso, I tend to sit higher in a car than some people who are even taller than me but who have longer legs and a shorter torso. My current car is an 01 Oldsmobile Aurora 4.0 and I have the seat as low as it will go, and even then I can't sit up completely straight in the thing, I have to kinda scoot down in my seat. Anyway, is there anyone out there with a similar height issue that fits in either of these cars? Thanks!

For tracking, that Mustang definitely lacked the right tires. I track in Cresson, TX and enjoy excellent handling on summer 265s front 275s rear Z rated P Zero tires.

You can also say: are we really comparing a car with one cam vs one with four cams? Its really just DOHC vs OHV. Even though it has more liters the LT1 engine is physically smaller and about the same weight if not lighter. Simplicity and performance at its best.

I know you have to test them how they come, but a lot of fans would love to see the same tires or competing tires on each car and another hot lap episode. Tires are the first mod you should do on a car for faster track times.

If I wanted a track car I would go for the GT350. Realistically everyone who buys one will rarely take them to the track and that's why the GT Special makes sense. The Camaro is very track capable but falls short in everything else.

+Mark Strong I would still choose the GT350 over the ZL1. The ZL1 is the best of a GT car and a track monster but I would still not buy one simply because I prefer the high revving, naturally aspirated nature of the GT350. When it comes to the ZL1 I think Ford is going to up their game with a Twin Turbo GT500. Either way both Ford and Chevy are making awesome cars and you can't go wrong with either one, I just happen to like Fords more.

Tires make a huge difference and the Mustang GT has big time inferior tires. I have MP Super Sports with tighter suspension and it handles like a race car. 1.05 Skidpad. This video needs to have a better matchup but I enjoy The Fast Lane Car's videos.

Nice match up but I'd love to see the comparison with equal tires on each vehicle. I realize they were going with what came stock on each car, but all season tires against a sticky summer tire poses quite an advantage for the Camaro. I love both cars by the way.

I'm a 5'3" woman and just bought a 2016 camaro. I have no trouble seeing out of it. There's a reason it's motor trends car of the year. I like mustangs too, but the camaro won out for me.

TFL Car- What rear gear ratio was being used in the Camaro? This is the first I'm hearing of the lack of torque. The Camaro SS is usually associated with a wave of torque.

made it until 38 seconds...when you said it was a cage match. The current mustang is a joke...which makes me sad as a previous mustang owner and never having owned a camaro. ford mailed it in with the redesign, added weight, and left the power the same. GM jumped on them. I'm guessing ford was already working on, and planning everything on the 350. But the GT will just get wrecked by the camaro SS. Might as well put the SS up against the 350 and make it a good fight.

I rented one of each (convertibles). The Mustang was much better in terms of visibility, comfort, and utility. The Camero, however, did look a little more “bad ass” and on a track is better. Everything considered, Mustang wins. Having rented both I bought a Mustang GT convertible and have loved it. My favorite post-classic Mustang is the 2005-2009 in styling which is what I bought.

I wonder how you were able to do both cars' 0-60 in more than 5 secs... even with manual gearboxes both cars should accelerate from 0 to 60 in between 4 and 4.5 secs... it's probably because of the tyres and the gear ratio (3.15 instead of 3.73) on the Mustang right?

I totaled my 16 SS and got a Cali special GT afterwards. I do miss a little torque but man the style on the mustang and the sound of the coyote when opened with a roush exhaust puts it above the camaro I had for combined experience. I can always nod if I need more power. But 435 is PLENTY! I can’t even use it all the time anyway

surprising that they say the mustang has more low down torque. That should not be the case at all with a 6.2 liter pushrod engine vs a 5.0 dohc. The camaro should own on low down grunt while the mustang dominates the top end. I know what it is though.....the super conservative torque management gm uses on everything. An aftermarket tune with this car would blow you away in the difference it would make. I will also say you cant compare two cars on different tire's....you just cant

So how are these cars evenly compared when you have the Camero with tires with only 500 miles on them and the Mustang has 9000 mile bold may pops on it. I have a 2015 Mustang gt and have beat 3 of those 2016 Camero's.

Especially the Performance pack on the GT and the Brembo & Magnetic ride on the SS. I think that I wouldn't consider either car without them. I'm surprised Ford didn't provide you guys with a car with an appropriate hi-perf summer tire, those All-Season Pirelli's looked like a handful on the track!
