These days you see more 15-17 V6 S550 owners that have upgraded their car's software and some made some minor modifications and are blowing v8 Mustang and Camaros off the road. It was evident Ford did not want you to buy a V6 Mustang. That is why they stripped down the available options trying to discourage potential buyers. I got a 2016 V6 before they removed the security package, the electric seats, 18 inch tires and wheels. It is no longer my daily driver, but I'll keep driving it as a weekend car till the wheels fall off.

Yep. Now it is. now your only option is a 4 banger turbo or 5.0; Shelby if you're retired or want to spend that kind of money to go the speed limit anyways.

The Ecoboost Mustang has 10 more hp. It also comes in a Premium trim level with a 7 inch touchscreen and leather. The V6 has none of this. Though I would imagine Ford will probably put the 3.5 Ecoboost V6 in it after this model cycle. The Ecoboost V6 has around 40 more hp than the regular V6 it uses now. So, it will probably push the current Ecoboost 4 cylinder Mustang down to the base trim level.

It has a balance of forces: good acceleration, as you have noted, which is "linear" because it is non-turbo; great handling, thanks to being lighter than the V8 over the front wheels; excellent suspension; and, importantly, driver comfort (take that, Camaro!). The performance stats on the 2.3 ecoboost and the 3.7 V6 are admittedly similar, but the almost instant, linear response of the 3.7 is more attractive. Its fuel efficiency in the real world is also as good or better than the ecoboost, which is fine until you engage the turbo - and then the gas stats go south. I have put 12,000 miles on my 2015 Mustang in the past year, getting over 30 mpg (U.S) on the Interstates, enjoying high-speed passes, smoking the tires a bit in "Sport" mode, and generally thinking I have gotten away with something special. Ford isn't pushing the V6 because Ford is global these days, and the smaller turbos sell better in Europe and Asia where surtaxes are slapped on displacements basically over 3 litres. In North America, though, I agree with you: take the V6.

The v6 in the new mustangs has a closer sound to the classic BMW straight 6's from the cabin, and I love that sound.

I've put about 12,000 miles on my 2015 V6 this past year, and I love it more than ever, especially as an incomparable touring car. It is so comfortable, even for a big guy like me, and has great high-speed acceleration on the interstates. I like its sound, very BMW-like, and its overall balance of forces, also very BMW-like. Truly, a feeling of harmony when driving this thing . . .

I picked up an extra set of rims with tires on Craigslist for $350. Now one is a spare tire in my Mustang trunk. One new rim from Ford would have been $600--just for the rim.

+MCKOOKIE I also have a 2015 V6 and love its superior handling, its light touch. Looking at the "base" models of Mustang, Camaro, and Dodge makes a lot of sense and provides great bang for the buck. I tried them all but chose the 'Stang because of its "feel' and comfort and excellent forward visibility. It is a great road and touring car. I averaged 30 mpg on an 8,000 mile trip around the continent last fall. I enjoyed its linear acceleration and high-speed passing on the interstates.

+Lee Johnson Yeah it is seriously underrated car, the ecoboost gets all the spotlight but i still believe this one is more bang for your buck and i like the linear acceleration as well. i have a flowmaster outlaw exhaust on mine and that really brought it to life. Thus, BMW uses twin turbos on an inline 6 for most of his "hot" sedans, to avoid V8 penalties with the tax man. The Mustang 2.3 ecoboost is thus made for the world markets, and the 3.7 V6 would exceed some displacement restrictions. The V6 easily equals the 2.3 turbo in acceleration, quarter mile, etc., and is smoother and should last longer - but in a world market (and remember the Mustang is now global), the small-engine turbos are the darlings. In North America, though, take the non-turbo V6 while it exists!

Lee Johnson I agree with this 100%, it is absolutely true! i went for the v6 and did not even consider the eco even tho that was all the dealer near me had for a month, they had no v6's for the longest time in february last year it was a joke. i got mine in May and it took a bit longer cos i wanted Guard Green which is more rare cos its exclusive to the new stangs but worth the wait.

HrGrafix The V6 is a great Daily Driver, with good sound and plenty of power but to Supercharge it would cost You about 5 Grand. If Your willing to shell out that much coin, I would skip past the Ecoboost and get a base GT.

You can use regular fuel and still get 300 hp in the v6, if you use regular in the ecoboost you get like 280ish, also a loss in economy. You only get the big media screen in the ecoboost, the v6 gets a little baby screen no matter the trim.

The Mustang definitely has better rear visibility and more trunk space. When you start comparing the Camaro SS V-8 to the Mustang GT V-8, the Camaros come only in summer tires which stinks for people in colder climates.

A 2013 V6 fastback model with 40K miles is worth $16,775 according to NADA (the most accurate pricing guide). 16,775/23,000 = 0.72935. That means the car will hold nearly 73% of the amount the consumer paid for it over 3 years with more than the average mileage of 10,000 miles a year on the odometer. This is much better than most cars on the market. Maybe not Subaru Legacy 77% good but still very good. Don't go by retail value when it comes to American cars. They are often heavily discounted.
