Probably one of the best in-depth step by step how to videos I’ve watch on KZfaq 👍 the camera positioning & editing alone must of taken just as long as it did for the clutch change itself, hat of to you pal give me the confidence to change mine myself if the engine lasts that long 👌 was a deserving watch to let the adverts run to the end without skipping through them.

Hi Kevin great job... been driving 30 years+ never realised its not good to keep the clutch in for long periods after all this time, until recently lol. I'm one of those that keep the clutch down in heavy trafic rather than into neutral and handbrake even if its go slow for 15 mins and hardly moving... a couple of occasions ive smelt burning and now realise its the clutch caused by my own idiocy. So my Q is, have I been lucky and got away with it once get moving & all cools down .. or have I/ or could I have done damage to the clutch & if so do I need to change it, in which case a 2 piece clutch kit or a 3 ?.... I dont get any crunching of gears and my Transit custom drives flawlessly. This has only happened a couple of times when I'm in severe trafic jams and nothing moves for 10-20 mins bumper to bumper..once moving and its cooled all is well!

As a tech at Ford van centre my hat goes of to you doing this on the floor, Just a suggestion, if you place a scissor jack between the engine and subframe it moves and holds the engine at a nice place for the gearbox not to catch the subframe.

I just drift them out most have a recess in the centre of the shaft stub for that reason. Although I have mashed a few ends being rough in my earlier days, nowt an angle grinder or deemed won’t fix though 😄 And I’ve dealt with some seized up shite in my day lol 😂
@johnmorton54983 жыл бұрын
@@stemartin6671 the recess in the middle of the shaft is for when they're been made and supported at either end. A big 4lb copper mallet knocks them loose without a drift, if you miss the shaft and hit the hub then there isn't any damage.

About 10yrs ago I got asked to have a look at a lads Citroen Dispatch ex-police van (still had cage in back) he had started to have problems getting any gears and I said to him have you recently had the clutch replaced and he said no but not long before he bought it from the police auction their maintenance department had replaced it verified by the logbook service history it had, anyway I went round and had a look at it and low and behold I kid you not out of all the bellhousing bolts it should of had in it there were only the 2 bolts across the top holding the box in and they were halfway out because everytime he depressed the clutch pedal the box was moving away from the engine it was shocking they must have shot the van back together and forgot to tighten them bolts up.
@WMCS3 жыл бұрын
Shocking .. a Mr clutch centre asked me to do a clutch for them as the customer went back on a trailer. Same thing. Only 3 bolts holding the bell housing and all done up by hands. Now I wouldn’t blame the mechanic. But the level of how some garages operate is to keep taking mechanic off the job do something else and come back then get taken off again and they want the job done before end of the day …
@garethjones80473 жыл бұрын
Around 10 years ago I spent a good few years as a contractor for greenflag, Britannia rescue etc. I got called out to a citroen picasso 2.0 8 valve hdi. Lady owner told me that it had been to a Gearbox specialist here in north wales for a reconditioned gearbox and it was noisy so she complained about the job and they reluctantly asked her to return it for rectification, but she said they were swearing at her when she took it. They had the vehicle another week and now the gearbox noise had gone, but within around 30 miles it started making horrible noises, that's why she called her breakdown club. I popped my head underneath to find about a 10mm gap between the engine and bell housing, most of the bolts were missing and it was hanging on by a few. She took photographs for evidence and she asked if our garage could sort it because she had just lost faith in them, which we duly did. Tightening a bolt is the most basic of things, and if you cant do that properly then you should not be working on vehicles.
@markmawson13 жыл бұрын
I had same sort of thing with a Pug dealer they were the only dealer willing to do the timing belt on a Peugeot 407 couple 3.0l 24v V6 because they were the only dealer to have the timing tools to do the job, so I booked it in and they said it would take 6hrs for parts and Labour anyway dropped it off on the morning never got phone call that day so rang them next day see how it was going only to be told "we can't keep the tech on just your car" so I said to him well don't think I am paying you for the time he is doing some other jobs when he is supposed to be doing my job I said you quoted me £300 + vat so £300 + vat is all your getting and no more anyway went to pick it up and there were bolts loose that were in plain sight so I dreaded to think what was loose under the timing covers

@@markmawson1 sadly all this happens in the motor trade. I've got out of it. Too many monkeys spoil it for the good ones. It's the kind of trade young lads are offered, I know, I've been a young lad myself, but my father used to own a garage, so I was brought up on good standards from the age of around 12, I then left school and went into HGV mechanics.
