This is a video that shows how to install an automatic day night dimming mirror in the 10th generation Honda Civic covering model years 2016-present. This upgrade applies to any 10th generation Civic regardless if it has CBMS (Collision mitigation brake system) or not. The auto day night dimming mirror is a really convenient feature to have and it is not offered on all Civic trims.
The car featured in this video is a 2017 Honda Civic Type R (FK8) in Crystal Black Pearl paint.
The Type R being a grand touring vehicle oddly does not have this mirror as standard eqiupment on North American version so I was determined to have this feature.

Thanks so much for the video tutorial. The second tutorial of yours that I followed (first was for the sub upgrade). My '19 ST's installation was a little different, the steps involved some more tape locations and hiding the old harness. Overall works great and now my car has Homelink which is really important for me. Important: Even if you car has the factory Day/Night mirror, if you want Homelink to work you need the Homelink harness. Learned that the hard way. Ordered the parts from College Hills Honda

Great vid. A bit dark in places, affected by a bit of lens flare from the sun and, especially when the camera was recording from _outside_ of the vehicle, not too terribly focused on the actual action being performed, but done well enough that a viewer wanting to do the same work knows what you're getting at. Honda went cheap over the years on a lot of things. I had an '01 LX Accord that had variable-intermittent wipers but my '14 LX Civic lacks that "extra" - but that was an easy mod to do. Thinking of doing much the same thing with my standard interior rear-view mirror and this vid, while on a 10th Gen Civic, shows much the same procedure that would be used to do this mod on a 9th Gen Civic. Thanks for the nicely detailed work.

yeah, it is super difficult to record something like this when you're a one man show. Totally get you and the feedback is appreciated. I will one day have a small crew to help me produce better videos or at the very minimum help me hold the camera in a position that helps make things clear. Yeah the Type R is a car stripped of as many creature comforts and conveniences as possible in the name of "price point" and weight reduction. I think Honda should offer a Grand Touring option package to North American Type R's so that consumers can decide if they want conveniences and creature comforts over pure performance. The European R's have all sorts of cool goodies including headlamp washers!

Another good video. Normally i would install the auto mirror but the dealer i bought my car from tinted the hatch glass so heavily i can barely see what's behind me in the daytime. Someone driving right behind me with their high beams on at night would not bother me at all!

interesting, I had my back hatch tinted too but I still found the auto dimming mirror helpful to reduce the "star bursting" glare when cars got up real close behind me.

you'd have to look at Honda's accessory catalog to determine if the CRV supported a dimming mirror as an add on accessory.

I have this in my civic also, the two green led lights were visible up until a few days ago.now they dissapeared.can you turn it on and off?.cant see nothing in the handbook.T.I.A..great install vlog BTW

are you absolutely positive the little green lights were on? Apparently they're not supposed to be illuminated at all. Do the test for your mirror as how I demonstrated near the end of the video. If it changes when a bright light is shone into the mirror when the headlights are on at night then the mirror is working. Mine never had any green lights on the mirror even though I thought they were supposed to light up. If all is working then I wouldn't fret too much about it.

@@piercedasian Thanks for replying.Im 100% sure they were both illuminated because i remember it was bugging me trying to get them off.lol.Anyway i just did the test and all is good.Nice motor you got there.I just traded my fk2 i had from new for the new 1.5 sport plus.Honda rules for me, happy safe driving buddy.

The process to install the auto dim mirror in the accord is VERY similar to how the 10th gen civic. It does come with downloadable instructions and you'll find a lot of things I show here are nearly identical to the accord.

The procedure is nearly identical for all 10th gen civics. IF you have collision mitigation braking system then there are a few extra steps but really it is quite straightforward.

Do you know if the optional homelink on the mirror works on the type r? Will I just need the 08V03-TBA-100 harness for both the auto dimming and homelink to work?

yes the homelink mirror WILL work IF you buy the corresponding homelink mirror wiring harness. The harness part # listed in my video will NOT work with the latest homelink mirror.

If I recall, you had to have the car in "run" (so not acc mode) and the headlights had to be turned on to enable the dimming mirror to "dim" when it detects bright light behind you.

What harness do I need for 2021 1.5T Sport (facelift)? 08V03-TBA-100 or 08V03-TBA-1A0 ? Same mirror as yours, no Homelink.

Hmm, you will need to contact your local honda dealer as they will have the correct parts for the later 10th gen civics.

I'm not familiar with the mirror you speak of but the process of dismantling the car would be identical. Wiring used for your mirror might be a bit different so consult with the manufacturer and understand wiring diagrams to ensure you're tapping power from the right spot on the fuse block.

It is hard to say but generally speaking Honda's style of how things are put together generally follow each other across models and years.

The dash cam is super easy. I could probably do a walk through video on how it installed but I don't know how many people would bother watching it on my channel if I created it since probably a million others have created a similar video.

Hmm I do not know. You have to cross reference the mount to make sure the mount on the mirror stem is the same. Wiring may be different too but you can always repin your connector to make it work since it usually only needs 12 volt constant, 12volt switched and ground.

@@piercedasian couldnt find a definite answer, the the tech at my dealership said there shouldnt be any reason why it wouldnt. also couldnt find anyone who tried installing it either :/

I did way back in late January. I will do a vid tonight on the update since I have other videos that I will be poster later this evening. I'm really bad at providing updates to my personal vlogs b/c I'm just overwhelmed with family life and work and KZfaq. I have an interesting personal VLOG I will be posting soon and that is about CPAP devices and how I now have to use one of those contraptions to sleep with...

Glad you found the video useful! Yes fully aware of the camera angles but without someone to help me or an easy spot to place a tripod or reshooting scenes (trust me I had to reshoot a lot even for this video) that it takes SOOO much time that it gets frustrating to take 5 hours to do what normally would take me less than an hour. If I had help to do my vids I'd be churning one out every week :)

You should buy a set of panel tools and pick set. Much easier using those things

I do have the panel tools and pick set too but I found the plastic spudger tools don't mar or scuff the plastic surfaces as they are quite soft and can damage easily.

@@jakevillanueva5435 ah ok. If you get the mirror like the one I have that has no homellink and assuming you do not have a 2020 CTR where you have honda sensing then you'll need 2016-2018 Mirror w/o Honda Sensing and 2019 Si ($119.99) + Standard Mirror Attachment ($37.20). Hope that helps!

Not surprised at all. It is a bit involved and given dealership rates I'm not surprised that they quoted you that much. Follow my video and save yourself a lot of moolah :)
