Our John Deere X570 just passed 100 hours last week and I have been running it almost every day this summer. It's been a good reliable mowing machine, and handles all of my weekly lawn accounts without a problem. There seems to be a good bit of speculation on the current X-series lawn and garden tractors from Deere, especially the X500 series. I've had a lot of feedback and interest in my X570 review videos and a lot of people seem to be in the market for one, so I decided to do an update video on this one and answer some of the questions that have come up in the comments and through my messages.
The X570 had 15 hours on it at the start of this mowing season and now it has 100 hours, so that just goes to show you how much I have been using it. For the most part it has been very reliable and it is a strong running and nice mowing machine. For what the machine cost new, I am very impressed with the quality Deere puts into these machines and for the most part, feel that it is worth the $6,000 price tag (with 48" deck). Here are the pro's and con's I discuss in the video.
Pros:
-Heavy and well-built overall, from the 10-gauge frame and deep shell mower deck to the durable K72 hydrostatic (ground engaging) transaxle and commercial-grade Kawasaki FS730V power plant.
-Mows great and is fast. Can save you time.
-48" Accel Deep deck has good airflow, which leaves a really nice cut, even when driving at full speed.
-Differential lock is handy and works great on hills, even with the stock turf tires.
-Suitable for most jobs around the yard, can handle all different kinds of lawn attachments and ground-engaging sleeve hitch attachments.
-Comfortable and easy to use.
Cons (or things that I think need minor adjustment/improvement):
-Steering is rack-and-pinion style like most cheaper lawn tractors. Should have an automotive-style steering box like the older garden tractors.
-The two J-pins that mount the mower deck to the lift shaft are hard to remove. Recommend loosening the two lock nuts on the backside of the J-pins so they are easier to unlatch.
-Mower deck belt tension system is cumbersome, might need a second person to remove tension while you install the belt on the PTO.
-Hard to install the front mower deck draft plate/bar because the two hooks welded on the front of the mower deck are too large. Usually have to take the draft plate off the tractor, hook it onto the deck, then install the draft plate again.
-Reverse pedal sticks when you let off it. Have to let off the pedal before you want to stop. Could become a hazard.
-For what it's worth, tractor should come with working taillights and 16x6.50-8 front turf tires instead of 15x6.50-8.
-Fuel gauge is not always accurate. Keep an eye on your fuel level!
It may seem like a lengthy list of cons, but they are merely suggestions for things on the tractor that I think could be easily re-evaluated and fixed. Don't let the cons take away from the fact that this X570 is a reliable and stout machine. For those interested in purchasing a set of taillights for their X300 or X500 series, Jeff Walters makes the kit. He can be reached at jefflhs@hotmail.com.

I'm a sucker for steering wheel spinners, but somehow this one has gone 6 years without one. Definitely steers easy. I've had my share of issues with the front end on this machine but a little extra grease will go a long way.

Just a note, I have the X590 which has EFI and not a carburetor. I can engage my 54” deck at 1/4 throttle with no problems.. Could just be because of the EFI. I chose the EFI for easy winter starting and it has not disappointed.. Great video..

Thanks Rick. It really depends on your local climate - I've heard mixed reviews regarding the EFI vs. carb models. The EFI seems to work better in some areas than others. I've never had an issue with this engine being carbureted - just have to watch that I don't let it sit for too long with gas in it.

I've got my father in laws 1992 F-725 John Deere mower and it's got the twin Kawasaki engine and a 54" deck and by far this thing won't do a bad job ! I grew up on the family farm and my we only had John Deere tractors and most of our equipment and just like those this mower is GREAT ! It's getting some hours on it but it's been over a LOT of acres when my Dad n law had it. He paid around $ 14k for it brand new and it was his retirement mower and he asked my opinion what to get for the several acres he was mowing and I said well nothing runs like a Deere ! My next one will be sitting in the garage like yours and thanks for a very good video !!!!! Good luck and enjoy that new green machine !!!! It'll do you well !!!

I’m looking at a x584 with the 48” deck for my commercial/landscape company. I already have a John Deere Z920m with 800 hours, and never a issue. I’ve been sold on Deere products from the beginning. I started my company with a 91’ John Deere stx38 5 speed (which I still own), and a 2003 John Deere L110 (which I also still own). The L110 has been beat to hell and back, and I really don’t understand why people dislike them so much. It has 1,100 hours, original engine and k46 transaxel. All I’ve done is general maintenance and change the transaxel fluid every off season. The stx doesn’t have a hour meter, but I’m sure it would have 2-3 thousand hours if it did. I had to replace the magneto, but that’s it. I also put a set of lug tires on it for mowing extremely steep hills. The hills (and price compared to a new z-trak) are why I’m looking at a x584.
@MichaelTJD60
@MichaelTJD60 6 жыл бұрын
We all gotta start somewhere, I started out with an LA150. That's an impressive amount of hours on both tractors...splitting apart the K46 to change the oil definitely helps. It pays to do a little extra maintenance. Honestly I would recommend just sticking with the X580 unless you have a lot of trees and obstacles to mow around. All-wheel-steer is a really handy feature to have, but that also means more tie rods, ball joints, u-joints, and hydraulic steering hoses to fail.

Newbies must read this. I've never owned a riding mower and have been shopping at many dealers and watching untold hours of videos. 1 thing I can say as a biased person is that I do not understand how anyone can say JD is overpriced compared to any COMPARIBLE mower! They are in the ball park and when you compare components like the K72 to others you are better off with a serviceable trans like the K72. Some other manufactures don't even tell you the size of the trans! I've had to dig hard to get info, and many are not serviceable or at least do not have it's own filter. Things like that and other items are very important if you want a dependable and lost lasting machine! Thanks again Mike and I think this may be the 3rd time watching this video. Your 250 hour update is great too!!

I found a piece of 1/2” copper pipe in my garage after a new water heater was installed in the house. It’s “L” shaped with about a 10” base to the “L” with a 90 degree elbow on a 3’ length of rigid copper pipe. I used this as a cheater over the handle of the 3/8” ratchet to remove the mower deck. I was afraid the copper pipe would not be strong enough, but it works great. I can sit on the ground next to the mower and swing that tension bracket out with ease, then rest the long end of the cheater behind my back and have good access to the drive pulley. Installing or removing the mower deck just became much easier. If you set yourself up with a similar cheater bar, I think you’ll agree.
@MichaelTJD60
@MichaelTJD60 5 жыл бұрын
That's a great idea, I never considered using a cheater pipe or even a breaker bar. 2 years later, removing the deck has gotten much easier for me but it's probably because the belts aren't as tight now.

The thing that sold me on John Deere was the parts man. I asked him if he could get parts for an older machine I was looking at from a private buyer. He said, "No problem. Usually next day or two days at the most, I'll have your parts, I don't care what year it is". If that has to run for a full five minutes before you can engage the mower deck that suggests the fuel system is starving the engine when it is cool.

Most of the Kawasaki engines I've run are the same way, they're just a cold-blooded engine and they don't make low-end torque like some of the other brands of engines, so they usually struggle or stall out if the PTO is first engaged at low idle.

What a beautiful thing. I didn't get a John Deere from Lowe's because we live in a tiny Town in the middle of nowhere and if it were to break down we would have to take it to a bigger town like 100 miles away for servicing. With no truck and no wagon to pull it on it didn't sound too appealing. We ended up with a Craftsman instead and if it craps out on us we can just call Lowe's and they will come get it and service it. We have 2 acres and I'm currently removing all the damn apple and cantaloupe sized rocks from it.

Thanks for putting this together, you have good experience with it and shared what you learned so we all benefit. Looks like just a mowing machine, not an all-around garden tractor. 10-15 min's idle at shutdown is probably a little extreme, but with the new emission controls (I assume from what you said) that helps.
@MichaelTJD60
@MichaelTJD60 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment David. I agree, perhaps 10-15 mins is a little too much, I've gotten into the habit of idling it no more than 5-10 minutes depending on the outside temperature and how long it was running....I usually run it for long periods of time, so the engine and trans both get pretty hot. For strictly mowing, it's the perfect machine, but for garden work, I'd consider something a little heavier.

Something to be said for buying a cheap machine and not caring for it so much. I have a Craftsmen DYT4000 with 850 hours on it still going strong and I've only had the deck off a couple times in 16 years. One spindle asm repalced, belts, oil changes. I never expected it to last this long but I mow easy keep it clean and stored in a garage. Just sayin the more expensive the machine the more inclined I am to maintain it. Shopping for a new tractor and I want to upgrade but at the same time can't deny my cheap machine has been a performer.

Every once in a while you'll come across a cheaper or lighter-duty machine that's still running with a lot of hours on it. Seems like those are few and far in between, though. Most light-duty lawn tractors I've seen with high hours on them either mowed a small, flat piece of land their whole life, or have been rebuilt/repaired several times. Honestly it sounds like you've had pretty good luck with your DYT, I would consider keeping it as a backup if you end up getting a new mower.

I realize that this is a 2 year old video, but I saw a comment from a week ago. You mention the engine bogs down if you engage the deck at idle. I have a 2016 x500. With a 54'' deck. I never engage the deck unless it is idling. I've not had the engine to choke down. There are even a few spots that I mow that are maybe 30 feet long while idling so not to throw grass against an out building. I usually mow with deck at 2.5 inches. I have read other people say their mowers bog down at low rpm. Thanks for the video. I've watched it before but like to read new comments. Just a thought, maybe it bogs down because of the hydraulic pump. The X500 does not have one.
@MichaelTJD60

Good thinking, but there's no hydraulic pump on the X570 either. This model is what replaced the X500. A lack of low-end torque just seems to be the nature of most V-twin engines...I've run a handful of v-twin Kawasaki's that stall out at low RPM as well.

The older X500 series use a different engine, I've talked to several owners of these newer X500 series machines and they all seem to have the same problem. I had a 1988 JD322 until it fell off of a trailer and was totaled. Went out and bought a lightly used 2012 X540 this Summer. I wanted something that was similar to my old 322. Something that is built to last and not a throwaway. The X540 has a liquid cooled engine, power steering, hydraulic deck lift and a serviceable transmission. Many of the lower end John Deere tractors have a sealed transmission, or you have to remove it from the tractor to change the fluid. So far, the X540 seems like a solid machine and I hope it lasts like my old 322 did.

They were good tractors with the Kohler Command engine and the heavier K66 transaxle. That same frame was used on the LX/GT series, which evolved into the X300/X500 series.

Thanks very much for a captivating video. I have been looking at the 500 series, particularly the 590 as I have been spoiled with the power steering on my present JD 318. Your comments about the difficulty removing the deck caught my attention as replacing the drive belt on the 318 is the most difficult part of complete removal and cleaning and blade sharpening for an 80 year old . I appreciate your honesty on that and everything for that matter.

Thanks for watching and commenting, Douglas. Removing the mower deck takes a bit of practice, but has gotten much easier for me as time has gone on. I've had the deck off this thing about 15 times at this point. I have had multiple 140's, 316's, and 318's in the past and I agree that replacing the PTO belt can be a pain sometimes. I actually have to replace the PTO belt on my 316 tomorrow.

I have a X534 with a Kawasaki engine. I bought it in 2010. Engine had smoking issue at the get ho when starting up. Warranty work was new valve guides on left side. My deck has a lever to loosen belt for removal when taking off deck. I have hydraulic lift of deck. Have problems with differential lock not disengaging after use. I now have 498 hrs on machine. I bought the brush guard. I hand. JD 140 before this one.

I have read that the deck should be engaged at full throttle. I have never put a deck on or taken one off of a mower before and on my 570 i found it to be very easy except for getting the belt on the pulley. I had to have a manual ordered for mine and I did not know about using a ratchet wrench to lesson the tension on the belt and I just muscled it on. That was the only pain. On and off in just a couple minutes. I really like this mower and feel it will give me years of service. My son was mowing and I had a hard time getting him off he was having so much fun, which was a first as he usually he just complains about mowing. Nice video about the X570.

Thanks for the comment, glad you liked the video. Most manufacturers tell you to engage the PTO at wide open throttle to reduce the possibility of stalling the engine, but I always engage it at idle or half-throttle. It reduces wear on the belt and PTO clutch over time. If you engage it wide open you're just going to stretch and smoke belts. I have to get more practice with removing and installing the deck but it was a bit difficult the first time. I think part of the reason the PTO doesn't like to engage when cold is because the belts are so tight!

Something interesting im not sure if anyone knows but the K72 doesn’t actually use splined axle shafts, so the 5 bolt hubs aren’t actually driven off of the shaft but are just like the lawn tractors with a key attaching the wheel to the axle but in this case its connecting the hub to the axle shaft. Kinda interesting!

I bought one of these and it does a nice job. However at 200 hours the tranny fluid must be changed and the tranny drive belt had some wear and needed to be changed. I’m 70 and can’t do extensive maintenance so I called the dealership to get a price on these 2 issues . I was quoted almost $1000.00 for this 200 hour service not to mention $150 for pick up and delivery although I’m only 12 miles away. This is crazy ! Before you by a Deere ask what some of these routine things cost. I would not have bought this for sure !

$1000 for a basic service is insane, even with most Deere dealer shop rates over $100/hr now. I'd call a local small engine repair shop to do the work, but make sure it is done using a genuine Deere drive belt, engine air filter, and low-viscosity HyGard tranny fluid - no substitutes. The engine oil, filter, and spark plugs can be whatever you choose as long as they are good quality (I've always stuck to OEM, personally - you can purchase a JD LG265 service kit for these tractors for around $50-60 which will come with oil, spark plugs, air filter, and fuel filter).

Been back and forth with this john deere and the CC X3 GSE we finally ended up picking today and got the Cub due to a better transmisson, bigger tires, high back chair and only have to push the reverse once lol. We are replacing our $4,000 dollar 8 year old craftsman heavy duty garden tractor with the Kholer engine which has been a great engine never let me down on a cold day. The CUB X3 was $5,000 and the X570 was $6,000 test drove both of them and I really liked both but leaned more for the Cub since it had a better transmission and I didn't like pushing a button every time I had to back up which I do alot in our yard. But nice video thank You! I actually went and looked at this one due to watching your video. Keep up the great work.

Heather how is the Cub doing? I am actually looking at the XT3 GS to accompany my 15 yr. old Cub 2166. A note about the transmissions: the Cub XT3 uses a Hydro-Gear BDU-10 pump hooked to the transmission while JD uses the Tuff-Torq K72; the XT3's tranny actually falls somewhere in between the Tuff-Torq K66 & K72 when comparing torque output specs. Not saying one transmission brand is better than the other just stating the comparison that a couple of dealers told me. Please keep us posted on the Cub, I for one am interested. Thanks.

The cub isn’t rated for ground engaging equipment. The k72 is a better unit. Cub doesn’t even sell a sleeve hitch for it.
@MichaelTJD60
@MichaelTJD60 6 жыл бұрын
Actually they do. Johnny Products also sells an electric sleeve hitch kit. In my experience, the BDU-10 transaxle in the Cubs isn't as great as it's made out to be. The fact that it has a shaft drive and is serviceable is nice, but it leaves a lot to be desired. My grandfather's Cub GT2550 has that trans in it, and it has a very slow reverse speed (which is useless if you get stuck in the mud), and the forward speed isn't that fast either. It doesn't seem to have much torque...enough to pull up a steep hill, but nothing beyond that. I would be afraid to put sleeve hitch attachments behind it, honestly. Not to mention the components are made in China (it's even stamped into the main case - you can see a picture of it in my 250-hour update video).

I have had the X570 for 6 months now and love it. I have the mulching kit on my 48" deck and the cut quality is amazing. I have 6 acres and mow about 3 of that now but have been slowly clearing more of the remaining 3. It cuts through the taller grass and weeds without a hiccup. I find the steering really easy even without the power steering. I have taken the deck off several times and find it hit and miss with reattaching it. Sometimes everything line ups perfectly and it is back on in a minute and then other times I struggle lining everything back up on the rear to get the J hooks reattached. Overall it is not bad dealing with the deck removal and reattaching. I have nothing to complain about my 570. I really love it considering I bought it used with 17 hours on it for $4200. It still looks brand new and I find I really like getting out and mowing now. It is a pleasure to see such a good even cut over several acres.

You got a great deal for $4200! And yeah, I've noticed the deck has gotten progressively easier to attach and remove, I guess because I've had it off 5 times now. SO, any hydraulic attachments you might like can be used w the x580. 3 point hitch kit, front loader, snow plow, ect. How do you tell the difference betwix a lawn tractor & a garden tractor? a garden tractor has lugs holding the rear wheels on (for pulling power) !
@MichaelTJD60

Might have a little trouble finding a factory front loader or 3-point hitch for an X500 series as they were never an option. Deere does offer a front-mounted shovel and a sleeve hitch for these tractors however. You might also consider looking for a used X530 or X540 (predecessors to the X580) as they have been around much longer and there are more of them available in the used market as a result. The current-generation X500 series are starting to get some age to them now, so lately there have been more of them popping up for sale used, but your chances of finding a previous generation model for sale are much higher.

Good review! Someone gave us a 314 at work as a donation. I can buy it for $150. Unfortunately, The person planned on making it track drive and hacked away the foot rests of the fenders. It has the original 14hp k series with like 1200 hours. And it smokes like a chimney, burns a crazy amount of oil. But the rest of the machine is in decent shape. Was going to buy it but just didn't have room for another project! It had some sort what I believe to be a front weight bracket, which I thought was cool. X590 has power steering and a hydraulic lift deck and a fuel injected engine which I noticed doesn’t stall the engine when engaging the deck or snow blower. Also drive the front wheels up on a couple of 2x4’s which will give you the room needed to slide the deck in or out and remove the front deck bar instead of sliding the deck forward, it has to come off anyway.. "Pretty much brand new models from John Deere"? The X5xx series has been using the same engine (Kawasaki FS730V) and the same transmission (Tuff Torq K72B), since it came out in 2006. The X570-X590 were brand new in 2016, the year before this video was made. There were some notable changes made from the prior generation, but they are all the same basic tractor underneath. At the time I made this video there was still a lot of speculation about the newest update since most people weren't a fan of the digital dash. That's changed significantly now, 5 years later. Just an FYI - the FS730V went into these models in late 2010 for the 2011 year...older models had the FH series engines.

Yes, I definitely would have kept the 316, it was a beautiful machine overall and was very well-maintained over the years. The thing with buying these older machines is, if they weren't given proper care over the years they will cause you a lot of headaches. I would have added a 3 point hitch to my 316 and used it for garden work down the road, but I'm using my other tractors for that stuff now. So when we looked for a replacement, we just decided to buy a dedicated mowing machine instead of getting another garden tractor. At the moment I have 3 of those.

I want to find an X485-X495-X585-X595 someday. Great tractors. You make a good point about the vibration, the plastic on the newer machines definitely muffles the vibration. It sounds to me like you have a bent or wobbling pulley somewhere. It would explain the grinding sound and if wobbling excessively it could pull on the belt causing it to stretch. I would check each of the pulleys and make sure the belt is riding tightly in the v-groove of each pulley. Also make sure the pulleys spin freely and without wobble.

Doesn't top a Kawasaki powered full suspension Simplicity. They truly are the best engineered out there. BTW most modern mowers will state in the owner's manual to engage the mower deck at full or near full throttle to keep the belts from whipping at the higher speeds today's mowers run at. Simplicity, like Gleaner combines, still use the more durable steel sheet metal.
@MichaelTJD60
@MichaelTJD60 2 жыл бұрын
Simplicity does build an excellent machine - they are probably the only manufacturer that I would put up against Deere in today's market. They've always built a very stout and solid machine. I've owned plenty of lawn and garden tractors with sheet metal body panels and have nothing against them, but like plastic they do have some disadvantages as well - mostly vibration and extra weight where it's not always needed. I think the steel vs. plastic hood dash is ultimately a matter of preference.

The mower blades all turn freely so there is no binding. It is so frustrating.
@MichaelTJD60
@MichaelTJD60 3 жыл бұрын
Are you sure the belt is routed correctly? When the belt is installed and tension is properly set, the three pulleys on top of the deck should ALMOST "line up" with each other - the idler on the tensioner arm will swing in towards the middle. Also make sure none of the pulleys are bent, wobbling, or sitting cockeyed.
@fdcap9835
@fdcap9835 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply. I think I found the issue. I actually took a few screen shots of your deck in the video and compared it to mine. I found that the tension roller for the deck drive belt was misaligned. I take the deck off in winter and switch the tractor to a plow. I store the mower deck standing up I am guessing that sometime during the storage, the deck must have fallen over and landed on the tension pulley, causing the bracket that holds it to bend downward a little bit. When I switched back to “summer” operations, the tension pulley was not parallel to the others which caused it to keep throwing the drive belt off. I disassembled the unit and bent the bracket back up a bit and that seemed to do the trick! For the moment, I’m back mowing! I wish that there was a real service manual for these machines. Thanks again for the guidance!

Any of the X500 series should handle a blade or blower just fine, but personally I'd go with an X580 or X590 for the hydraulic lift and power steering. They are nice to have when you're constantly raising and lowering the attachment and you have all that weight up front making it harder to steer.

I have a x540 and it will stall the engine if I try to engage at anything less than 3/4 throttle. ive been told it is a clutch problem. aftermarket clutches or adjustments made to them can help from what ive been told but the originals (for mine at least) cant be adjusted apparently. yours might can be adjusted

I haven't really taken a good look at the PTO clutch, but I'm used to it at this point. When I take the machine out to mow, I usually let it idle a few mins and then drive down the street to the customer's house that needs mowed. By then it's warm enough to engage the PTO at an idle.
@BioHazardra

I let mine warm up a while after first start but ive mowed with it for a good long while (20 minutes or a lot more doesnt matter) and it will still kill it out. once its very warm it can engage at just above half throttle. i dont like doing it but its done that for 10 years (2007 model) and as far as i know nothing has been replaced on it due to wear from rough engagement :)

John Deere is a good mower it’s what you like best I use to owed a tractor type mower but which to a zero turn I got a Hustler Raptor SD 54”cut you can get a Hustler Raptor SD 54”or 60” for the price 4000.00 to 4500.00 dollars once I use a zero turn I didn’t want to use a tractor type again you get a good cut and get done quicker.
@MichaelTJD60
@MichaelTJD60 5 жыл бұрын
That was my reasoning for getting a tractor instead of a zero turn or a front-mount mower, I was afraid I'd never want to use my old garden tractors again after running a zero-turn. A zero-turn would have been far more practical for my mowing business, no doubt, but after I move out some day and bring the old garden tractors with me, my dad will need something that can mow, plow snow, and do other tasks around the yard. You don't really get that versatility with a zero-turn. So I compromised and decided to get a tractor that could be a good commercial mower and a good all-around worker to leave with my dad when I move out someday.

I have the same machine and I noticed that if I stop while mowing to pick up a stick or change my noise canceling headphones, that if I leave the engine running it will kill the grass under the tractor from the exhaust heat. I have to be really careful to never stop and just leave it idling even for a few seconds or I will have a brown spot in my lawn the next week. Have you noticed this issue and if so, what have you done to deflect the exhaust from going straight down?
@MichaelTJD60
@MichaelTJD60 3 жыл бұрын
I haven't had this issue personally but I have heard of other people who have had the same problem. Unless the exhaust has a hole in it or is not baffled correctly inside, the exhaust should be going straight out rather than down. I wonder if it's a factory defect with the muffler.

It only rattles when making a sudden change in speed or direction. It doesn't really rattle when you're cruising along. In fact, the pins that hold it in place rattle more than the brush guard itself.

To this day I am still not sure - may have something to do with the mounting for a different application (like a zero turn)? I use it to hold the primary belt and keep it from coming off the pulleys when I take the deck off. I ought to look at a current model year X series and see if they've done away with those welded pieces.

I think that the only garden tractor that actually competes with the x500 series is the xt3 or the gt2500 series. They are the only 2 companies who make a ground engaging capable garden tractors anymore as well as using sleeve hitches. The Kubota GR series doesnt offer any rear hitches due to the rear transmission having issues if you use them for a ground engaging job. And for some reason the simplicity conquest and prestige dont offer a rear hitch either. I guess they might have either the same issues as the gr series kubota or the frames crack. The Husqvarnas have lots of frame cracking and bending issues as well as the hydros arent as strong as the k72 or the BDU-10L228 in the deere and cub. From my research the BDU series hydro pumps are more equivalent to the older 318 or 782 hydros because they are basically the newer version of the 15U series pumps. I saw a cub cadet 3235 vs a 318 tractor pull and the cub cadet was dragging it all over. The 318 couldnt do anything. And the BDU21L in the 3000 series cubs are almost identical to the GT2500 series BDU10L-228 hydro pumps but the 21L has a few more inch pounds of torque. Also the engines are just as good Kohler command in the cub and Kawasaki fs or fd??? For the x500 series. The frames are uber tough and very thick gauge steel. Also the cub as a c channel frame so i guess the cub has a advantage. Cast iron tranny housing vs aluminum, depends on how much weight you need. Both have diff lock. Lug wheels as they should. Cast iron front axle, 11 gauge steel decks on both. Wide variety of ground engaging tools. (The 2500 series has more than the xt3) so very similar tractors. Both a great purchase which ever you choose! Both super capable of ground engaging tasks. Just be careful not to do too much with either machine because you dont want to stress and break important parts of your machine. Take care of it no abuse. As taryl fixes all would say, “thats lawn mower abuse”. Also on the john deere it’s aluminum transmission case be careful because if you do too much ground engaging work that’s stressful it can crack the housing. Anyway hope that helps any buyers out there making a decision!
@MichaelTJD60
@MichaelTJD60 2 жыл бұрын
You are correct, the XT3/GT2500 series are a direct comparison to the X500 series. The BDU hydro pump is similar in terms of fluid dynamics, but the torque output is actually lower than the pump used in the Kanzaki rears used in the X500 series. I touch upon the differences in those transmissions in some of my more current X570 review videos - I recommend checking out the 250 and 500 hour reviews if you get a chance! Great discussion points.

@@MichaelTJD60 Correct but what the cub cadet rear end does is they gear them lower. They are really strong and not super fast. The k72 is fast and strong but not as strong in certain cases because they aren’t geared as low. Or that could just be my x540 being a piece of junk.
@JoshAllen17Goated
@JoshAllen17Goated 2 жыл бұрын
@@MichaelTJD60 Also be carful there because the sundstrand 15U series pumps in the older shaft driven garden tractors are only 15cc pumps hence the name 15U pump. The k72 has a 21cc pump and the bdu10L has a 10cc pump hence the name as well. But the max torque of the BDU10L not the BDU10S is from what i read from the spec sheet just under 200 foot pounds of torque. Just the pump! So i get what your saying and i have watched the 250 and 500 hour review both great vids by the way! But the 15U and BDU10L series pumps are just the pumps not the entire transmission all together like all the gearing the case… i mean what ever else. Its just the pumps. And im pretty sure that the max torque of the 15U series pumps are like 260 foot pounds of torque. And i was watching a review of a Husqvarna and people were saying that the k72 has 520 foot pounds of torque. It doesn’t. It’s actually i think somewhere around 430 foot pounds of torque. It says so on the site if you look up there integrated transmissions. Anyway sorry if im coming off rude i just wanted to clarify what I meant. Have a good day my friend!
@JoshAllen17Goated
@JoshAllen17Goated 2 жыл бұрын
@@MichaelTJD60 Also i just kinda though about this but the k72 has to run hydraulics. Not on the x570 but the bigger x500 share the same tranny as the x570 they dont go out and have 2 separate models just so one has hydraulics and one doesnt. Thats my the 15U series pumps are higher ccs as well they have to run hydraulics. The BDU10L can but they dont have the charge pump on them. On the Old x400 series super gts they had 21cc pumps BUT 6 of those cc were the charge pump so in reality you only have 15cc all the time.

Turns out the lifter was moving inside the block. Worst part is the whole tractor only had 80 hours on it. The original owner never did any maintenance to it...

Mike thanks for the great info. I'm in the process of buying my first riding mower for our new property up North. We are on a 2 mile dirt road that everyone takes turns mowing the sides and are hilly. My lot isn't that big 1.4 acres but divided by hills, so since too many guys up there have went through transmissions and are always getting stuck I need at least the locking diff. I am intrigued with the 4 wheel steer now on the 584. I think that would be a great help along with the locking diff. My next option is the Kubota 4wd GR 2120 which is shaft driven and 1k more than the JD but they have better financing too. If I could I would go right into a 1025R with loader and backhoe and mid mount but I may be better off getting just a 500 series and later the sub without a mower. Best of both worlds. But my question is how well do u think the 4 wheel steer with locking diff would work comparing it to the 4wd Kubota. Thanks again for great videos and info that is explained tremendously well!!
@MichaelTJD60

Honestly I've never run a tractor with 4-wheel-steer so I'm not sure how it would perform with the diff lock. I've never gotten the X570 stuck even with turf tires on it...the diff lock always helps if I hit a soft spot. I'd only recommend 4x4 if you have a lot of steep slopes or ditches to mow (or any spots where the mower deck could get hung up), but a regular hill shouldn't be much of a problem for an X500 series...the K72 trans is beefy enough to handle it.

Hey Michael - Great videos, thanks for the John Deere info. You mentioned spraying Teflon paint on the mower deck. I'm buying a new X570 or X580 and wanted to ask you if applying Teflon Paint is worth doing. Does it really help with grass sticking to the inside and is it something you have to constantly re-apply? Does it make things worse?
@MichaelTJD60
@MichaelTJD60 5 жыл бұрын
I only ever tried it once and it was a long time ago. It didn't really make much of a difference. It reduced the amount of grass clippings that got stuck under the deck, but only by a little bit. The best thing I can tell you is to not mow when the grass is wet...that's the easiest way to prevent the deck from holding in moisture and rotting out. If you mow in a dry or dusty area, the dirt and sand that get picked up by the deck will just sandblast the underside of it, so you'd have to re-apply it anyway.

Would you fine this mower good for a 2 acre property? Or is it overkill if 95% of what I’m doing is mowing. May tow behind a cart with mulch and downed branches from time to time. Looking at X350 too as it is half the cost of the 570.
@MichaelTJD60
@MichaelTJD60 3 жыл бұрын
I would look toward an X380/X390 if hauling mulch or branches is the heaviest work you will be doing with the machine. Either of those models, or an X570, should be plenty for 2 acres. The 570 will have a stronger transmission, but the one in the 380/390 should handle a loaded cart just fine.
