In this video I remove the stock shock spring and install a new one to fit my weight. Unlike some other KTM bikes the swing arm needs to be detached.

Changed the spring on my '18 FX 350 today and couldn't figure out how to get the spring off. Your video was spot on - thanks!

Great video, just swapped out the spring on my '17 300xc and this was a helpful guide. Thanks for sharing.

No need for all this work just to swap springs. Back your preload ring off to where the spring has plenty of vertical movement. Take the 2 bolts out at the bottom like he does. Push the spring up and remove the circlip and washer at the bottom of the shock. Just pull the spring out from the bottom. 5 minute job.

I never had a linkage dirt bike, thank you for this video. however it seemed like the spring would slide off thru the bottom. two bolts like mentioned prior and came out easy, just need to support rear tire.

Never thought of pulling swing arm bolt to get access to pull shock off. I always took the sub frame off and pull shock up and out.

Hello , which spring i need to use ? I m 90 -92 kg ? Thank you
@jaybird991003 жыл бұрын
Did you have a skid plate with linkage guard you had to remove as well? I need to replace my spring and pretty sure my skid plate will need to come off and because Of that so will my pipe. (Skid plate can’t be removed otherwise) won’t be as clean cut and short as this one.

Hello my friend. Please re-do the video. I almost followed your advice , thankfully someday in the comments noted that you do not need to remove the shock and spring. Or the swing arm. Or the chain. This video creates all this extra work for nothing Just take of those 2 bottom bolts and remove spring. Slide the spring down. It literally took me 6 mins. No need to remove chain , swing arm or anything just do everything on the bike. Less chance of doing damage. Thanks for your efforts but if you’re wrong you shouldn’t keep this post up. Please don’t get me wrong. Your presentation itself is excellent. Just that most of don’t want to pull half the bike apart if we don’t have to.

thank gosh i read thru the comments - i had assumed what you wrote but then i started seeing video's of swing arm removal. Others also cite swinging the subframe out of the way as well. plan to JUST remove the spring not the shock.

Good job on the install and video!I just picked up a 2018 250XC, will be re-springing as well, I'm about your size...what spring rate did you change to?
@caseymateus1350 Жыл бұрын
Did you find a shock rate table for your weight?

How did it change your riding experience, with the stronger spring? Are you going to do the front springs?
@lcrx1214 жыл бұрын
It felt like it was broken before, way too low and unresponsive so it's a huge improvement. As for the front I just ride 150psi on technical offroad and 160psi on the track (or endurocross).

I got it from my ktm dealer (had a good deal on parts when I bought the bike). There are many charts on the web that will help selecting the right size depending on weight / experience / intended use.

I need a bigger spring for my 2019 300 XC. What WP spring would I need for my weight of 230 lbs. With all my gear on?
@lcrx1215 жыл бұрын
Not sure, there's a few online tables you can check or ask your shop when you order.

Go to Jeff Slavens excellent site, know your ride weight (you and all of your gear) and order off of the chart. TaDa!

How do you like the AER forks?
@lcrx1216 жыл бұрын
I like to be able to use different pressures for different uses (in my case MX track and enduro/woods riding). So far I can't complain, but I can't really compare to the spring forks that I had on the other bike. They are so different, the 300xc feels a lot lighter than the 500excf.
@Tony-ie2ze6 жыл бұрын
I have a 2006 250 XCW. I will be buying a 18 300 but I can't decide between the XC or XCW. My debate is really between the XPLOR or AER fork. Don't really care either way on the other differences like wide ratio trans, lights, linkage vs PDS. I am a woods rider, and I'm a big guy. Just wondering what it takes to make the AER forks great? Just add more pressure if you weigh more, or do you have to send them out for revalves too?
@lcrx1216 жыл бұрын
I only adjust the air pressure, but it's still new to me. at 220 pounds I was using 150psi in the woods and 160psi on the track. Now I gained some weight so I might have to adjust (or lose it but it's not easy)

Wouldnt it be faster and easier to just lift the subframe??
@Stalkerfiveo4 жыл бұрын
It's actually faster to pull it out through the massive hole where you see the shock reservoir. You might have to remove the silencer, but that's WAY better than removing the swingarm.
@kyl3dr3 жыл бұрын
The fastest way is do not remove the shock, just remove the spring
@Everydoghasitsday2594 жыл бұрын
now take that swingarm bolt back out and grease it up before reinstalling that will seize solid with no grease been there done that
@lcrx1214 жыл бұрын
Good point
@alecweinstein3 жыл бұрын
This is not the way you want to replace the rear spring. You can simply remove two linkage bolts, and the circlip from under the spring retainer to remove and replace the spring.
@labasrytas2876 Жыл бұрын
could you drop a video link how to do that or pictures?
