Thank you Jeff. That's a slick way of removing shock. Gives you a chance to inspect and grease everything as well.

I was thinking the same thing. Great time to service one of the most neglected parts of a bike.

And some of you posters please give it a break on your comments. Jeff has been doing this a long time and does it for a living. No need to interject how you would do it. I'm grateful we have Jeff to help us out on these tech tips.

I was able to pull the gas tank with shrouds, the silencer, lower sub frame bolts and fold the subframe up to get to the shock. It was A LOT less to remove than this and way faster.
@joshmundy Жыл бұрын
Same. Way easier unless you are greasing linkage

I recently pulled the swing arm to remove my shock for a revalve and grease the linkage, it's is definitely harder and takes longer than folding the subframe up.
@joshmundy Жыл бұрын
@@TJC510 yep. Done it both ways and subframe so much easier unless you need to grease

Quick tip from my 23’ 300xc 1. Unbolt silencer/remove 2. Unbolt head pipe/don’t remove 3. Put bike on stand remove lower link from shock and wishbone 4. Put 12” block under rear tire 5. Remove spring/ falls straight down 6. Remove rear 12” block 7. Unbolt shock upper mount bolt Shock will now come out easily. Literally 10 minutes.

"5. Remove spring/ falls straight down". What spring? Shock spring?

An easy job to do but I do love my PDS KTM. My old Yamaha WR450 was linkage and ok to do. If we can’t do jobs like this we probably shouldn’t be riding dirt bikes. Great video as always Jeff.

Hey Jeff. Great video thanks! Any tips for a newbie greasing the linkage and head tube? Any easy tips or things to watch out for/bearings falling out etc?
@gordoenduro963 Жыл бұрын
I have done this on a few te250i & 300i's by removing the seat, the two side covers, silencer then removing the subframe bolts. The subframe will pull out of the way and you can remove the shock.

This method works on Kx450 as well. Been doing it this way for years on my ktm,s. Alot easier than pulling subframe. I change rear shock springs in bike if im not servicing shock, just need to get linkage out of the way back off preload and remove retaining clip.

I did this also by leaving the swing arm on and folding the sub frame up. But for my 350F also had to loosen up the boot from the air box to the throtle body. Taking the air boot from the throttle body is easy. The bad part comes when you have to slide the boot back on over the throtle body inlet tube. You can't get your hand in there. You have to get it all lined up using long screw drivers and lube.

Is that a bladder reservoir? Which one do you use? The shock on my 300SX just feels kind of dead to me.
