Seeing as the next 1 series will be FWD, this M140i is a classic in the making the last of its kind. Straight 6 rear wheel drive 50/50 weight distribution in a compact body.

How can you spend more time speaking about the idrive system and pairing your phone than driving this car? There is merely 1 minute about the engine and the handling... such a shame.

Think you'll find the A45 is far from the best. It's certainly the quickest but is only 0.4 seconds quicker to 60 than the M140i.. That's incredibly close. The interior of the A45 looks great but wares incredibly quickly from personal experience) Plus feeling the back end kick out in a rear wheel drive 1 series is far more exhilarating than feeling like you're on rails at every given moment. i'll take an m140i over an a45 any day - a couple of bolt ons and a remap would leave you slaying A45s for days if you really wanted to match them in straight line performance....

Two comments about the focus RS that were wrong. "It isn't RWD", well it is actually, it is better than that, it's 4WD. Second, "the 140i has more HP", no, the Focus RS has more at 350HP. I like both cars but how can you get such basic specs wrong??!!

Why has BMW called it M140i where theres no difference from old M135i...? Since when has pairing a phone and having 'plenty of door bins' been on a review of a performance car..? Go see other better reviews which actually review the car and not the shopping bag capabilities..... :(

Jeff G the 135i had a n55 engine, the new one is a B58. It has more mid range power and torque compared to the old one where you had to rev it to get max HP.

+Jeff G This is not a performance car, it's still a hatchback and needs to be practical. If rivals from Audi and Mercedes take care of this, then certainly BMW will be expected to do something similar. The lines between performance/sportscars and soccer mom's cars have become vaguer.

No detail about the actual real world performance of the engine or sound. Thanks for a fact sheet, plus if its the most sporty version saying the auto is recommended because it changes faster is bs. Give some feedback on the feel and what you think suits the engine and personality of the car.

It’s an ok review but I feel she has had to rehearse this rather than actually knowing what to talk about. I reckon it should have been compared to cars of similar standard as in A45 and Audi S3, people who buy BMW won’t be looking at ford or Volkswagen as an alternative

Just remember when bmw said 315bhp with the 35i they were running around 330bhp and ford lie the other way -.^ +bmw vs ford build quality is a no brainer the dash in the new rs focus is shocking

David Hopkins The power figure is underquoted on these M140i's by BMW, near enough everyone that's being dyno'd stock is making 350+ bhp, so they do make more peak hp and torque than the mk3 Focus RS

How did BMW only extract 335hp from a 3l Turbo in 2017 when they could get the same (or thereabouts) from the E46 M3 3.2L NA Motor back in 2002? Yes I know it has more torque, but so it should have, still sounds like a lame engine

because it does it while getting 30mpg, not 20mpg. And also over 100g/km less CO2. While that is a bit boring, the engine itself is capable of far more than the 335bhp it had in this car.

Too much info on sat nav on other gubbins when any petrol head is buying this for the lovely 6 cylinder engine and massive grunt. Pointless review for me, more applicable to a boring family hatchback so a poor show by the journalist for putting her name to this and for What Car for commissioning. Boring! Great car however and lovely engine sound.

Not being sexist, but why am i watching a video with a woman presenting about a car that she probably doenst know what a ft lb or torque is and how ps equates to bhp?! Why does she have to accentuate at the end of every sentence. Chris Harris, show her how its done (apart from the booby bit). The only feedback through the wheel she knows about has nothing to do with cars.

We in the USA are not allowed to drive BMW's that put a smile on our face because we much rather spend $40K plus on a heavy and slow pick-up truck that gets 10 mpg and consequently maximizes profits for the manufacturers of such hill billy rubbish. Hence, I have to satisfy myself with a 2 door coupe body style instead and I was convinced once upon a time that I lived in a democratic society!
