As an owner of a 2013 M135i, I completely agree! I've compared a 2016 M140i on my channel and the differences are monumental. They're not the same car. I just need to experience an RS3 before claiming it's the best hot hatch

I haven't personally driven a Golf R, but I'd be willing to bet that the M140i handles better and feels smoother - the B58 engine is an absolute gem!

@@BuckleUpShow yeah the golf is fun, mine was a manual but just found after a while it got a bit boring, almost too perfect. Yes the B58 is an absolute peach of an engine so smooth with the auto box I love it.

Nice review Jasper. I drove all of the hot hatches, and yes I knew some were faster, especially at launching, but that's just boring, anyone can plant the throttle. Some were faster around the twisty bits, but they felt almost too competent and just too grippy. The M140i was by far the most fun. It's a good car as standard, but with a little bit of tuning, it is simply an absolute wild beast, that is so much fun trying to tame. And that is why I don't think I will ever sell mine. The adaptive makes a a big difference Jasper, when you're daily driving, it's much more comfortable, and then in sport+ or traction off mode, it's stiffer than the none-adaptive. Best of both worlds. A simple remap will see well over 400bhp and almost 600nm, which puts it amongst some very quick opposition, and with a sports cat over 450bhp is easily achievable.

Hi Nik, thanks for watching! It's certainly up there with the most fun I've ever had in a hot hatchback. I can see how with a few tweaks this could be turned into even more of a monster. It would be interesting to try one with the adaptive suspension and an LSD to see how much that changes the driving experience. Glad you enjoyed! Jasper

@@BuckleUpShow Hi Jasper, just thought I'd share with you : I had a 200 cell cat fitted to mine, and another remap, it made 455bhp on the dyno, and 634nm torque. I also had the XHP3 gearbox map. I think I need an LSD more than ever now lol !!!

I found the passive suspension to be dangerous. Harsh and bouncy worse the faster you went. Swopped it for a birds kit now much improved. Just changed my Michelin super sports for goodyear f1 as6. Night and day improvement. Admittedly the SS were on the car when I got it. Probably drifted around 50 car parks. They just didn't seem to work at all during winter.

Great cars, and I suppose you could say the last of the “proper 1 series” now they aren’t rear wheel drive. It’s just a shame that the a comfortable driving position is near impossible if you’re 6 foot tall. The same applies with the A Class you drove recently
@BuckleUpShow
@BuckleUpShow 3 жыл бұрын
It's a shame that there won't be any more rear wheel drive 1-Series models, yes! The owner of this particular car is 6'5 and he didn't say anything about not being able to get comfy. I guess he's had longer to faff about with the seating position than we do as reviewers, though!

@@BuckleUpShow It is. Plus the new one looks like a Ford focus😖 I drive a lot of 1 series and A class's for work and they do feel quite cramped but like you said there isn't always the time to find the ideal driving position

Hmm, weird statement. Mate of mine is 205cm which is apparantly 6"7 and has absolutely no problem adjusting the seat to drive/be a passenger comfortably. I am 186cm which is over 6 foot and I also have plenty of room in my M140i to feel super comfortable. Don't forget you can also lower the seat by quite a lot.

Although nose heavy, probably the best stock drivetrain available in a hatchback. Stock suspension and damper Setup is rather suboptimal for serious usage.

The lack of a standard LSD is also not ideal, but how can you say no to a straight six crammed into a hatchback

@zdx197
@zdx197 3 жыл бұрын
If you drive it at 50-60%, all what he said applies. When you start pushing it, yes, the suspension is not right up there by default and it is definitely missing an LSD. Sticky tyres make a lot of difference already though. The PS4's grip better than the PSS's that they came with. The bridgestone runflats are absolute utter shite, lol, avoid these at all costs if you prefer not ending up in a ditch.

@@zdx197 Thank's a lot man, I am undecided between choosing M140I vs I30N. I know they are so different, but what I really want is some predictable and "safe" drift like in an M2. and I tough puting an LSD in the m140i will solve it, but Im not so sure
@zdx197
@zdx197 3 жыл бұрын
@@MiataND3 I own an M140i since a while, I don't have an LSD yet and the car is running stage 2+. It has eibach pro kit springs and michelin PS4 tyres, relatively cheap handling mods which make the M140i grip and steer significantly better already. But by no means it is an M2, mainly because of the lack of an LSD. If you leave the car in Sport+ which allows some spin before the nannies kick in it is still quite managable, especially when you lock it in manual (I disagree with the video that you should leave it in auto, with spirited driving DEFINITELY drive it in manual, way more control). The standard shocks are honestly quite shite when the roads are bad, way too firm, so I'm looking to get some Billstein B8's to replace them soon. That will probably still come before the LSD (which is quite expensive for some reason for these cars). Stock brakes on an M140i are quite good but the stock brakepads aren't. When you service an M140i for the brakepads you should simply put some ebc yellow stuff and better braking oil and you're good, unless the car would be used solely for heavy track (ab)use. As a reference, I have driven and/or tested many hot hatches, including the i30N, Mégane 4 RS Trophy, A45S etc. While the price of the A45S is in a totally different category, the power and potential of the B58 isn't, obviously other than that the A45S is a more capable (but more boring) car to drive, it is literally glued to the road and has infinite traction due to the AWD. If you are doubting between an i30N and M140i it should honestly be a no-brainer. Yes, when I testdrove the i30N, to my surprise, it is actually a VERY pleasant drivers car, good steering feedback and very sorted and predictable handling (more oversteery than understeery), decent brakes and for a 4-pot it actually sounded quite alright, and even though this car is more focused on the "sports" aspect than the M140i is (I'd rate the M140i as a mini muscle GT car, the w204 C63 V8 amg of the hot hatches), in 90% of the situations and even racetracks the M140i (yes, even stock) would absolutely smoke the i30N if you know how to handle an RWD car, even though the car will sometimes feel a bit all over the place, the amount of power and its delivery is on a completely different level. Yes, even with the open diff, it is still much more fun and engaging to drive than an FWD hot hatch. The imperfections of the car (compared to a full M like the M2) is something which you can easily live with and later on - if wanted - can be modded to the point you want it to be at, there is a massive community for both the handling part of this car and for the very reliable and potent B58 (which is actually a better engine plant than the first M2 with the N55). As the lad in the video said, a straight six turbo RWD'ed hatchback, they'll never make this anymore and it certainly is a fun car to drive. You can also try to find a M140i which is a bit under your budget and use the spare money to do a full service and fit an LSD to it..

@@zdx197 wow thanks so much for the reply, I really apreciate it! Yeah the M140i is less Gti and more GT cruiser, RWD, with a masterpiece engine and less exhaust sound (than I30n in stock form). Currently I have a Z4 3.0i e85, I love RWD, but also was looking for something more practical. that's why Im in love with the m140i. But trying to drift a bit in my Z4 (also open diff) in dtc mode (sport plus) It doesn't feel conected and predictable. In other words I just powersliding, cause drifting is not safe at all 😂 (by drift's I mean small ones on the street nothing stupid). Im also not a track day guy, I just do fast B roads and autobhan runs.

@@MiataND3 You're welcome. The E85 isn't quite renowned for it's most inspiring chassis, it is a death trap on wheels that haha. iirc it uses an e46 rear end and e90 front end ? or was it the other way around. An F20/F21 is definitely a more sorted and modern chassis.
