I test rode multiple different R9T models and found the Scrambler to be my favorite so I now own one. I agree with you on the tires. Sure, they were great out on the sand in Ocean Shores but on the road, the noise was too much. I can't wait to swap them out for something more road worthy. Thank you for the great review!

Hey Cal - love your videos. I own one of the original R NineT's (highly mod'd) that is quite likely my favorite bike. While I love the looks of the scrambler it handles so much better than the new one. After owning one for a couple of years I have to say it's one of my favorite bikes of life. Not a stellar performer but just so fun to ride and easy to make your own. I'm lucky enough to have "better" motorcycles, but they have a hard time putting as big a grin on my face. Funny how that is. Keep up the good work.

Ha ,having fun with it after some negativity . Great bike! Bought myself one a little while back and does not disappoint. Sure the standard R9T has a better fork ,a tach ,blah blah. who cares? At 6"2" this bike perfect for me,R9T too small.Regardless,this one in a class of it's own.Seat comfortable (at least for me) and karoo 3"s are just fine,and I don't much ride off road. Really fun bike.

This is the second review of this bike I have seen where the reviewer mentions how bad the tires supplied with the bike are. It is a simply gorgeous looking bike and ticks all the right boxes for me if I were in the market for a new bike, and it looks a hoot to ride. I love my G650GS to much to justify a change though.............. Not sure why you are getting some personal and bad comments. Thanks for the insightful review.

I'm not sure why some people are giving you a hard time. I thought it was a damn good review/video. I like how you were honest. You were all set to hate the bike at first, but in the end, you seemed to have turned around and actually had a lot of good things to say about the bike. I took the bike for a test drive too. The one I rode had 250 miles on it and I thought the Karoo 3 tires were fine. I took a rode with some sharp curves and I had no problem. The bike was fun, responsive, great braking, easy shifting, and definitely great looks and sound. Don't listen to the haters. Nice review.

Well said Ray. Pointless comparing them to a pure road biased tire, and calling them useless. The idea of the scrambler is a "freedom" type bike, allowing some limited travel on dirt roads. Hence not being fitted with Michelin pilot power 3's from the factory... It's like putting the pilots power 3s on a dirt bike and calling them useless...

I still don't understand modern "scramblers," you can't really do much scrambling on them. Aside from that, the bike does look cool I guess, but I'd have a really hard time paying that much and not getting upside down forks. Keep up the enjoyable videos!

Was that a motorbike or bicycle lane? Not judging, just curious I am not from the US but I would love to take a big (motor)bike trip there. Always curious about the specificity of local rules and road design before I wheelie the crap out of the proverbial Sunday's Lance Armstrong of this World :-D :-D :-D Ok I must be a tad obnoxious because to me the biggest drawback of all Nine-Ts is the sound, or lack of it. I don't want high pitch unbearable moped like sound but I like a big rumble that changes tune whether you accelerate or decelerate. Something that gives the bike character or a more brutal presence if you know what I mean. I am selling a Yamaha BT1100 with a set of double GPR and the sound is... magical. It is a V-twin but the original exhaust sounded very subdue, with the GPR, it is not quite Harley like but close, not obnoxious but enough to turn heads and let's be honest, that's what we all want. It is not just for showboating, I like to have noise also for safety reasons, you know the proverbial driver with a cellphone/make-up/12feet sandwich who swerve right into your face because he/she "did not see you coming", did not indicate and well was not doing much driving at all (automode yeehaa!...) yeah there are billion of these specimens on our roads, so I like my exhausts to do the warning for me especially when I ride on tight spaces between lanes. Here I come, big rumble. So my idea is to shove two tubes one on each side, old straight tubes very Harley like, nothing fancy something simple and old style precisely, but I have not bought the bike yet. I am thinking it through, visualizing :-D It is definitely the Scrambler I am after, aluminium tank. So yeah the sound... a little bit disappointing for me. I am no Boxer aficionado, maybe that's why I cannot quite appreciate its sound as it is. Having said that, I was not more excited when I have heard the Triumph Bonneville. What I hear just does not match what I am seeing somehow. I don't know if it is a matter of V-twin vs parallel twin vs Boxer, but the V somehow sounds more alive. The Buell (well that's Harley I guess) were exciting to me, not from the look, they were not but from a... personality viewpoint, it was alive. That's what I after. And I know for sure this can be achieved with a Boxer. Out of curiosity, do you guys know of any exhaust/muffler manufacturer in the US who have a more traditional line specifically for those BMW 9Ts? Something a bit more, raw should I say. You know the kind of shop that takes old bikes, restore them and give them a second life with awesome neo-retro looks. Anyway, great video, very informative. Thumb up.

In my opinion you didn't get the point of the scrambler, BMW decided to use those forks and those tyres because it's (also) intended for dirt roads usage where it's better to have regular forks and tessellated tyres. I see the point that it's plenty of better off road tyres, but so far I haven't seen any producer giving top first equipment tyres, they are always just...ok... Please, don't get this comment as a "u dumbass know nothing about bikes", I've seen some of your videos and you've a pretty good motorcycle knowledge...I might sound assumptive but that's just because I'm italian and my english is not as good as I might think hahaha
@calmoto9073

@NicolaWayneFolli
@NicolaWayneFolli 7 жыл бұрын
My bad, I should have say "white roads" (dunno if you call so the mild off road)...the Ducati scrambler has reversed forks but they are very small and supposed for a mild off road usage as well, I don't think there's much difference just because they are reversed.
@joejosephson4858
@joejosephson4858 7 жыл бұрын
well, you're wrong. It's intended for on and off road use. That's why those high quality tires are giving you so much trouble. What a fucking tool.

They're a road/dirt tire. The compromise is obviously the road performance. What you lose on the road you gain back on the dirt. This is what the scrambler is about.

Metzeller Karoos are not Garbage. They are exceptional tyres. But they don't belong on this bike. They are a 50/50 Tyre that belongs on an adventure bike. So maybe the correct context will be good when you make factually incorrect statements like that!
