Measuring the flex difference with the sway bar connected and disconnected and getting a testing out the way it feels driving. I also know it's anti-sway bar, but that's to long. I don't recommend this to anyone. It's on there for a reason, but surprisingly easy to disconnect. I also know I'm a goober and said a couple things backwards nut/bolt, disconnected/connected ;)

the reason the front doesn't want to compress as much is because when your going of jumps or hitting woops you need it to be stiffer so it doesn't bottom out.

Awesome truck. Appears they did a good job getting the sway bar right if there wasn't too much difference. My 2008 Tundra has a similar front setup with no rear. I added a Hellwig rear bar, made a huge difference, esp with a heavy load. Congrats on the Raptor.

I wonder if the articulation not being much different with and without the swaybar is due to limited flexibility of the control arms as opposed to a solid axle on a ram power wagon or jeep rubicon
@randallchristensen840

it looks nice on the ramp and it get a lil more up. but i think that it handles worse off road. just what i saw.
@henrent
@henrent 5 жыл бұрын
disconnecting the sway bar would be good for slow, rock crawling for the added articulation, but not for the road or going fast off road. I wouldn't run it on the road as you would need the added handling in an emergency lane change or some other fast maneuver to avoid an accident. BTW if you did have a bad accident and the lawyers found out that you disconnected the sway bar, you would be in deep stuff if there was a fatality. Even if it wasn't your fault.

I think you need to try some sort of rock crawl to get appreciation of the sway bar disconnect; not just rock crawl maybe a log area or something. The ramp thing may not give you info Hey I pick up my truck this week; it finally arrived!!! What size tires did you go with?

Let me get this straight "No body roll" means that it is like hard to make it flip when going around a corner? rightttt????? (Please answer)
@cocheran
@cocheran 7 жыл бұрын
Yezzo I'm no engineer, but I would imagine it could possibly make it more likely because the center of gravity would be shifted a hair. From what I've heard the anti sway bar removal wouldn't make it more likely to flip on such a turn, like speeding up on a 180 on ramp to get up to speed with traffic. But it mainly matters in a moose test. Where you swerve hard one direction and then immediately back the other direction. My test was mainly for how it might be annoying to the driver getting a lot of body roll on road trips. I thought the hard curve might show a difference the sway bar made. After weeks of driving with it off, it hardly makes any difference except it wiggles just a hair back and forth around level. The amount of roll doesn't seem much different

when you go around a left hand turn your car leans right. this pushes the right side tires into the wheel well. picture this bracket on the floor: [ if you grabbed the bottom "handle" and rotated it to the left side the top handle would come with it. thats how (anti) sway bars work. when that right side tire starts getting stuffed in the wheel it twists and sucks the left side in too (how much depends on thickness and spring rate of sway bar). adding a thicker front and rear swaybars on my car made it have near 0 body roll. in this videos case the springs pushing the tires down are very firm. when this person goes around a corner the spring is pushing that tire down (hard) rather than pushing the other side up, like a sway bar. in the case of my truck it almost rolled over to the bump stops anyway and now that its off- yea it rolls. but it stops at a point i'm comfortable with and so i just left it off. hope this helps.

Seriously though, that flex limit with IFS sucks, just can't articulate as well as a solid axel setup, but they sure do ride better. I had similar issues with IFS on the lr4 and ended up going back to solid axel vehicles. Raptor is still a hell of a truck though.

@AnglerDanNE
@AnglerDanNE 7 жыл бұрын
Snactimus Maximus haha. Funny you say the ifs doesn't flex as much. Someone actually tested this and the raptor flexed more before picking up the rear tire that the ram did with solid front axle. Quite a lot more too. I think it was The Fast Lane Truck if I'm not mistaken.
@snactimusmaximus
@snactimusmaximus 7 жыл бұрын
+Giantsasquatch_GamingHD you're misremembering and it was TFL. It is actually a pretty common mechanical limitation of IFS unfortunately. I'm a huge fan of independent suspension, not only for the ride but because there's far less cabin intrusion with IRS (in suvs anyway) and I love me a spacious 3rd row (big family).

Trevor, I agree with everything except the last part. I traded in my JK for a powerwagon this year and am much happier. I'm not shilling for the power wagon though, the raptor is a great truck just for different things.

I was thinking of trading my 2014 SVT Raptor in for a 2017. I think I might just wait until stuff like this is figured out. There shouldn't be rust on a truck with 500 miles on it, maybe not properly processed steel? Either way, Ford should figure that stuff out in the next two years, when I will probably trade mine in. Hoping they'll come out with a 5.0L turbo V8 too.

Well my wife's 2017 Tahoe has rust spots already as well. I think the issue if you want to call it that is across the board.
@maxvolek2715
@maxvolek2715 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree in that case if two 2017 vehicles from different manufacturers have the same thing. I live in California, so I never really have issues with rust at all. I'll probably just wait either way because the price of 2014s will probably continue to go up anyway.
@AnglerDanNE

Chris Mac yup. My brand new Wrangler has rust on it too. But of course I live in New England. Winters here suck with road salt. But I got my frame and everything else bedliner/camoliner whatever you want to call it. Then put a coat of jetseal on. Works like a charm. This is after sanding and painting it black I put all that on.

I have a Ford 250 superduty now, and I was at the ford dealership the other day and had just walked by a new Raptor, I couldn’t believe how small the tires were! Come on Ford give a couple more inches why don’t ya. I’m a bigger fan of meat on the ground than height. And I think ford could of did us a lil better. The raptor I saw was 95,000 bucks too

Howdy, i was curious what you don't like about em? They definitely get no love, I'm thinking maybe I'm to old to have a sense of style anymore :) I really wanted maybe a bronze or titanium finish and black was a close second. I wanted them to be simple so mud wouldn't get stuck in places and not stick out to hit on rocks. But the hardest thing was to find the stock offset and size. I didn't want to change that. I wasn't crazy about em but it's the only thing I could find. Lastly I wanted lighter. These weigh 7 less pounds a piece. What is ugliest about them? Where did I go wrong?

You're funny. I have owned more offroad rigs with and without swaybar disconnects thank you can dream of. On the Raptor, it BARELY does anything. Not to mention I have one. And you went up the ramp with the front wheels...if you are gonna test the disconnect go up with the back so the front flexes. But you know it all apparently.

I've ran an xterra and now a ranger with no sway bars and its awesome. i actually prefer it on road as well because you're usually hitting bumps and holes with one tire and i like having my IFS actually be independent haha. i think they are there to protect the people inside who have a car thats so easy to drive they don't need to pay attention. i am constantly aware that my vehicle has been modified and so i see no safety factor when combined with driving like a professional, not like its a bother holding up whatever I'm doing inside the car. plus they both handled poorly before (compared to cars) anyway so its not like I was racing up paved canyons when they were on. plus it seems like i'm offroad 51% of the time ;-)
