2017 GMC Acadia Denali rear brake pads and rotor installation.

Typical New England rust jack. This vehicle is 2 years old with 37,000 miles. and already forming rust and had calipers hung up not performing correctly.
This job is easy for the average DIY, But you may need a brake tool if you have the electric park brake, which you can rent free from any parts store chain.

If you put an allen wrench in the back of the caliper you turn it clockwise to release the pressure on the piston and it pushes in easy. then just replace the electric parking break mechanism

Do you have to turn the allen bolt back after compressing the piston?

Few questions and I appreciate you taking the time to answer. 1. Would this whole process apply for a 2018 Same model Acadia? ( can't find any specific for the 2018 only 2017) 2. With all the electronic bells and whistles did anything pop up on your dash for parking brake sensors etc? Thanks again for the video and response much needed details. 👍

Can't imagine it would be any different from a 2017 but not 100% sure. And no codes popped up. The only thing electric to talk to the computer is the e brake and the fluid reservoir level. All is good

Very informative video. I have a few of questions - 1. Did you have the same problem releasing the caliper piston on the other rear wheel? 2. Have you experienced any problems with the electronic parking brake since you have replaced the rotors and pads on the rear wheels? 3. I have seen other videos (non for the Acadia) that require software or an electronic tool to release the caliper piston - it appears that is not necessary on the 2017 Acadia - can you confirm? Appreciate the help.

No I did not do a thing with any programming the cars running fine everything break wise is perfect . I think the piston being stuck is just normal for the northeast usually the calipers seize up from rust Jack within a couple years

@@JLafix Ok - thanks. I am about to undertake the same project to replace all four brake pads and rotors. Doing my homework before starting - my 2017 has 47k miles (mostly highway) and I don't see much rust at all. The car has been garaged since new and I live in the mid Atlantic so hopefully I won't encounter a rust problem. Thanks again - anything else I should be aware of before taking this on?

The only thing I can think of is when you disconnect the caliper don't engage your parking brake Because it will clamp the caliper shut tight

You have an older video working on a group bilt snowblower with a bushing issue. Would happen to recall what the model of the blower was?

I remember the troybilt video with plastic bushings. It was a 24" cut with an 8hp Tecumseh engine. I cannot tell you the actual model/serial #. But I think it was a late 1990,s model.

Where's the jack stand? Never use the Hydraulic jack to support the vehicle. They are for lifting only. My 2018 Acadia has developed a brake squeal on the back left side WITHOUT the brake applied. Thanx for the video.

You are probably down to the metal tab on brake pad that is there to warn you its time for new pads.

@@JLafix Only has 26k on it & the fronts are fine. I hope you are wrong. I called the dealer today, but couldn't get a hold of the Serv guy. Still under warranty.

@@Homer19521 This is a common problem on later Acadia’s. There is a TSB related to this problem. Have the dealer look it up.

How did your paint hold up on the caliper and the plate guard?

Still red. I used a product designed for calipers, it came in a little can maybe 1/2 pint. A little pricey but it's holding up

I just did mins on my 2017 traverse and i can get the breaks to really pump and engage any recommendations on what could that be?

GOOD VIDEO YOURE A PATIENT MAN I GUESS YOU DIDNT WANT TO GET YELLED AT BY YOUR WIFE IN CASE SOMETHING WENT WRONG, IM A TECH AND I LAUGHED WHEN YOU SAID YOU CREATED A SMALL BEACH AFTER BLASTING THAT BACKING PLATE AND YOU WERE REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT THAT LITTLE SURFACE RUST, I LIVE IN TORONTO AND I CONSIDER THAT MINIMAL RUST, I WOULD JUST POWER BRUSH IT AND PAINT IT WITH RUSTOLEUM OR TREMCLAD AND YOU SHOULD OPEN THE BLEEDERS BEFORE PRESSING THE PISTONS IN THAT MAKES IT EASIER AND ALSO ALOOWS YOU TO FLUSH THE BRAKING SYSTEM WHEN YOU OPEN ALL FOUR AND KEEP THE FLUID TOPPED UP BECAUSE BRAKE FLUID ABSORBS MOISTURE WHICH CAUSES CALIPERS TO RUST INTERNALLY SO YOU END UP PREVENTING FUTURE PROBLEMS NOT CRITISIZING JUST A LITTLT TIP THANKS
