2017 Street Glide with Milwaukee 8 on the Dyno. What kind of numbers does the newest Harley Davidson engine put up? Check out this video to see how to read a dyno graph, and what the difference between a stage 1 Milwaukee 8 and a stage 4 Milwaukee 8 looks like.
This Street Glide has a HD stage 1 air filter installed. You can see the install and extra info here: • 2017 Street Glide PERF...
The 2017 and the 2018 touring bikes run the same Milwaukee 8 engine, and this one has a cobra pro chamber exhaust. See the install of the exhaust here: • 2017 Street Glide gets...

Thanks for the 3 part video. I think you're the only person on youtube that has posted before and after dyno numbers with the FP3. I finally got my RK back last weekend with all the leaks and issues corrected. Now need to get it on the dyno to see if there are any dips in the A/F ratio as you showed. I am looking at the new Red Shift M8 cam as the next upgrade. It looks real promising.

Great video john,, im glad we are not the only ones getting the disappointing numbers from M8 ,,,hell a 96 with 103 stage 4 we would get 92hp and 107 ,,, on average with the master tune,, and if the customer allowed us to put a a good 2 into 1 exhaust on it ,,, on average,, now on baggers we would get about 89 to 90 using the SE 255 cams ,, better for that kinda riding,,, but anyway im really disappointed in the HP TQ output of the M8 ,, seems we used to be able to do alot more with alot less before..

I was expecting more, for sure. I figured I’d leave the lazy vs happy dyno discussion for another, future vid. Ours is definitely lazy as hell though. I think what people miss is the few hundred rpm sooner that the power comes in for the M8 makes it feel much better. Sadly 5 years worth of data and graphs were lost last month when our old computer died. Live and learn. Backups are in process this go ‘round!

John, another great vid. I really don't like the 3-part series stuff but your content made me do it. Question/ Request: It is obvious the bike was not right in the beginning. Being old school I always want to get everything perfect before any mods. How about a video on just getting our bikes to run per the specs with all the stock pipes and most original hardware? Looks like adding the FP3 would help as much as the new pipes and cleaner. Thanks again.
@TheHarleyTech
@TheHarleyTech 6 жыл бұрын
It's my first series, I don't know if I will do them so close in the future. It might be nice to mix in some other stuff in between. I pretty much just did performance stuff for an entire month! It's hard to say if the pipes and air cleaner cause the air fuel to be so off, or if it was the base map from the FP3. I have tuned a stock bike with the cat removed with a super tuner a few years ago. For the money spent, it was a total waste. I think I got 2 horsepower and 1 ft/lb of torque. HD has it real close, and still within EPA guidelines. I wish I could have done a stock run with the bike, but the dyno was being used when the bike came in. I would have had to wait half a day to start the job! I have ran multiple bikes with parts installed and no tuner at all, and it is generally way off at 100% throttle. I'll definitely throw in more dyno information in the future. Now that I have a video to refer to for more information on the basics, I can get into more detail instead of just the basics. Either way, thanks for watching!

John really enjoy the vids, how about another update on Clay? I realize this is an older video but I'm bored and reviewing old videos here in CA since were on a shelter in place order for Covid 19. Your video discussed using FP3 and Power Vision to tune bikes at the dealership, do you have to alert the customers to the fact that it will void there warranty or are the bikes your tuning already out of warranty? The dealerships here in CA aren't very friendly about using these tuners related to warranty.

My question is how important is altitude? When getting dyno numbers? I live at 2500 feet above sea level in Alberta Canada. When I see dyno numbers on here invariably the testing is some where in the lower 48. So I have a 2019 FLHXS with a 114 and the upgrades Harley torque cam.. when I see that exact same set up being dynoed in the USA.. I’m guessing I can’t assume that’s the same numbers my bike would make?

Great video, John, thanks for posting. All made perfect sense and it’s cool to see a little of the behind the scenes for a dyno tune. The numbers on the stock M8 are pretty disappointing; were those with the pipes and filter, or bone stock? Numbers floating around the ‘net seem better for bone stock, perhaps adding intake/pipes lost power before tuning?
@TheHarleyTech
@TheHarleyTech 6 жыл бұрын
They absolutely lost power before tuning. I probably didn’t make that clear. That horrible air fuel line after the base run definitely resulted in a loss of power.

Hey John, Recently bought a 17 Roadster and am putting pipes and a filter on it. The guys (tecs, parts, sales) at my local dealership seem to hate the FP3 they have basically told me it makes bikes run terrible... that doesn't seem to be the experience of people online or those I have talked to. I am guessing you like it if you are willing to tune a bike on the Dyno using autotune? Any feed back on the FP3? my dealership wants me to spend over $800.00 to get my bike tuned. Everyone seems to love it or hate it. Would you say the FP3 is pretty good with the auto tune or should I eventually have it Dyno tunes?

Hi John, great videos I really appreciate all your work on these. I’ve ordered the 18 CVO Road Glide and am planning on doing a pipe and muffler change; do you recommend the fp3 turner over the Harley screaming eagle?

I am not a fan of the pro tuner that HD is making now. FP3 or power vision for the win! That said, every dealer is different, and every warranty situation is different. Some dealers will only install HD parts. Some dealers like thunder max or TTS. You’re best bet is to use the tuner the dyno dude wants to use, or find a guy that uses the one you want. If you pick a guy that doesn’t know how to use the tuner you pick, or if he doesn’t like it, you may not be happy with the results.

Now you got me worried man. My 2014 ultra limited 103ci with a stage 1; Vance & Hines headers and dual High Outputs, SE intake, and SE Pro Tuner puts out 92Hp and 110ft-lbs of torque. And your tune with the 107ci stage 1 is making less power. I love all your videos man, and I'm a subscriber, love your content, but you might want to practice some more on tuning these m8s and get that guy some decent numbers. I just bought a 2019 RGS two days ago and am already putting together my stage 1 kit. Now I'm thinking about not getting the FP3 if it's producing such low figures. But I already know the 2019 RGS produces more power than my 2014 Limited with its stage 1; you can feel it. I am still excited to see the numbers with my build. I'm glad I didn't get the 107ci though. Not a big enough difference from 103 to 107 in stock form to warrant the upgrade.

The head pipe choice on the M8s is a big big deal! It has less to do with the FP3 and more to do with the back pressure in the exhaust. I’ll be honest, this video is old, so I don’t remember it too well, but I do know I never ever sold another one of these pipes. The Rinehart slimline duals have consistently put out 110 ft lbs of torque with the 107s

John, I was thinking about going with the Vance and Hines Power Duals (headers) and their High Output 4.5" slip ons for the exhaust system on my '19 RGS. I had that exact setup on my '14 Limited and loved the torque and sound. Do you know if that setup will perform well on the 114ci M8? I also may or may not get the FP3. I would like to have your professional opinion to which Tuner you think performs the best, since you deal with this all the time. And which Tuner did you go with for your Heritage? Thanks man

Hey John! Love your videos man....why does every dyno tune video always talk about afr adjustments only! Nobody ever talks about what timing changes are are at part and full throttle to gain max power and torque in addition to fuel changes? Or am I wrong and nobody is adjusting stock timing curves when doing stage upgrades?
@TheHarleyTech

Stage 1 upgrades I usually do advance timing through the power band and get a smoother looking line and a little better numbers. Sadly, the pro tuner doesn’t allow timing changes, so I didn’t even think to bring it up.

My m8 has rineharts slipons, k&n stage 1 kit it's got like 25% more power it feels over stock. It's all the power u would ever need. But putting in a aftermarket cam tomorrow for $840. Otd. Denny's hd Springfield, mo. A excellent shop...
