2017 Suzuki GSXR 1000 Review : It's been a long time coming has the new Suzuki GSXR1000 but has it been worth the wait? Suzuki has taken it's time and watched what other manufacturers have done before launching its own 1000cc litre bike missile on the market. With a great electronics package, wonderful engine and a great price, is the new Gixxer thou' the best bike in class?
Many thanks to Pete and the guys at Ford & Ellis Suzuki in Chesham for lending me the bike for review.

I love your description of the exhaust as a Euro 4 nightmare which is pretty much spot on.I own a GSXS1000f which is quick enough for me these days and would be interested to see a review on the bike from your good self mainly too see if you have the same problem with the throttle that most people seem to be having, personally I find it okay and a pretty fun bike to ride.

Missender a question. If you were handed a key to a supernaked or superbike which would you take? What bike then would you choose from the option you picked?
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 7 жыл бұрын
Not entirely sure I understand the question - but naked bike would be the MT10SP, Sportsbike (tricky) - probably the 959 with a decent exhaust. Very closely followed by the Super Duke R and Yamaha R1....

If you want the bike to be a little more nimble, tune the suspension. They are, almost, never tuned properly at the factory for a specific rider. Also, change the levels in the mode. It will help a bit. Keep in mind the traction control is slightly counter intuitive, so change it several times to get the right settings for you and your riding style. Nice review, good detail. I'm waiting for the 1000R. Another week or two. Safe riding, rubber side down.

Loved the review and whilst I prefer the looks of the R1 the GSXR has had gleaming reports from all angles. Comes back to one of your previous videos about motorcycle price hikes. So glad to see that Suzuki have made a class leading Superbike at a reasonable price point. I mean, who would take a Blade at 15k (19k for the SP) over this at 13.5k? or for the same price you could have a second hand 2015 R1... As much as I love the looks and sound of the R1 it seems a no brainer for me. Other manufacturers need to take a leaf from Suzuki book on this... I just SO wish the paint scheme had that gorgeous metallic blue of the previous version, I'm far less keen on this brighter one. Great job TMF!

I like your videos and the review this time is/was especially helpful. I believe it made up my mind. Yesterday morning I picked up the 2017 GSX-R1000R ABS Model. The get up and go is certainly right there. It isn't an uncomfortable riding possition as are some if not many sport bike, can get a seat cushion if one finds it uncomfortable, I rode around all day yesterday from when I got the bike at 11:00 AM, till I had to get home and cook supper for my Father and I at about 4:30 PM, and I am nearly 51 years of age. So Pooh to those who complain of sore backs and writs and should shoulders. Helps if you purposely use you core to absorb most of what would be forced upon your writs and shoulders, & the rest though, I will admit that. It pays to look after yourself so in fact one can actually do so when called upon. Otherwise one truly might be relegated to a Cruiser before ready for that style, (I don't care for that style bike) certainly if one were out of shape or worse, the Sport-bikes may not be the Models for oneself then. Happy riding. :)

Thank you very much. i find as we get older we do tend to ride with more care and attention, taking no chances the way one may have with Youth, I think the blue is deeper on the Double R, I Love the way People from the United Kingdom put things, (my ex-girl-friend was from London, & my family's heritage began there many generations back) :) I found the bike out accelerated the other Three Large Japanese Manufacturers as well. You are so right, It gets to License loosing speeds in seconds, The clutch is so light as you mentioned, but the bike I have has the quick shifter and the blipper, and it is my first experience with either, Lovely is what I say about the both of them. Have a great day.

I used to have a 2004 Gixxer 750 and absolutely loved it. I feel like 2004/5 were the golden years, since the styling really went downhill after then, and they added weight too. Everyone seems to agree Suzuki always make a really nice handling Gixxer with a great engine, but they can't get over the looks. Gotta admit, I'm not really a fan of that candy blue - would prefer a darker blue.

Another cracking review as usual...I see what you mean about the LCD Display, for a start it keeps going blurry when the speed increases... :) A little surprised, after your comments in this video, that you prefer the R1? If money was a consideration (isn't it always?) which would you say is the best value for money? And given the choice of the two which would you spend your money on?
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 7 жыл бұрын

Rode one a couple of weeks ago - great bike, agree with what you've said. Well beyond my humble talents. Apparently, it has a sub 10sec quarter mile.......impressive. Yep, exhaust does detract a little, but did sound rather good. One question: why were you in 4 gear doing 30 mph? I never had it out of 2nd lol. From 25mph (3000rpm) to 100mph (~10000rpm) - great power range. Brilliant bike. Another great video.

Suzuki have actually been quite clever with the exhaust - it's so big because it contains the cat as well i.e. its very easy to quickly get rid of the cat and but a decent end can on, good review as ever TMF

The big joke is that I have never bothered removing a stock pipe, never felt the need. If the EU is behind exhausts like that and all/most manufacturers go down the same route, loads of people like me are going to feel compelled to remove the damn thing along with the CAT. Result? More "dirty" bikes and more motorcycle noise. A classic case of lawmakers not thinking through the unintended consequences of their laws.

Good point, classic example of legislation by people who have no idea of what they are legislating on
@mikebreen2890
@mikebreen2890 7 жыл бұрын
History is littered with examples of the laws of unintended consequences making legislators look like the idiots they are. I don't tamper with exhausts, but even I would feel compelled to remove that monstrosity. A law designed to improve clean air and noise that makes rational people feel compelled to produce dirty air and more noise. Classic! And the bigger the legislator, the more stupid they are. Off topic I know, but the USA passed a law requiring all banks around the world to report US account holders back to the IRS on pain of closing down that bank if they did not. The result is that banks all over the world have closed the accounts of any US person and/or limited their access to services, so damaging that persons ability to live and work outside the USA, so damaging the US economy through damaging it's ability to export, and overseas Americans now renouncing citizenship at rates the US embassies cannot cope with. Does nobody in these jobs use their brain any more?! The main qualification for these idiots seems to be the inability to see beyond the end of your nose.

I appreciate your videos and hope you keep doing them. Would you sell your Ducati to buy this bike? If not, why not? Suggestion: Please consider doing some low speed/parking lot/car park maneuvers with the bikes you get to review. I think how easy the bike is to maneuver in tight places is a factor worth considering for a rider, especially those who live in crowded metropolitan areas.

I did do some low speed handling in the car park!! ...and no I would have the Ducati over this - not because it is a better bike but because it looks gorgeous and has that certain specialness the GSXR doesn't have....

Walking the bike back is not what I had in mind. :) Something like doing a U-turn in a confined area of a car park... Like you I thought the exhaust on the GSXR looked terrible but the sound of the motor is impressive. So the Ducati has a certain Je Ne Sais Quoi the GSXR doesn't have, right?

I find testing bikes before their first oil change is not the best representation of a bike. For example bikes generally before their first oil change (especially the 4 pot sports bikes) have very poor engine braking due to the thin beak in oil. I have tried bikes that are not to my liking then had the chance to try one later on after it was broken in and they are a totally different ride.

I currently have 28,500 subscribers and my views for that video currently are at 7,838 - so a sub/view ratio of 3.63......so if nothing else it shows my subscribers watch about 3 times more of my videos than his do.....so you lot are more loyal than his and that makes me feel better :0)

Yet another bike which would excel on the track, but on the road would prove frustrating to me. I'm only human and as the performance is so accessable I'm not sure I could show the restraint needed, lol. I suppose if one is in the position to be able to own a stable of bikes this would probably be on the list. There are rumours of a new GS coming, if BMW keep the abilities of the current bike with perhaps a performance tweek or two, then that will be my next bike. Appreciate your reviews TMF as always. cheers tony

BMW will be very cagey about a GS replacement. They don't want to kill the Golden Goose...If there is a new GS coming, it'll still look like a GS and feel like a GS.. ! Too risky to make extensive changes to such a successful machine.

I don't unterstand why every reviewer insists that the exhaust is no big deal because it is easy to change. Try finding a euro 4 compliant aftermarket exhaust without any power and torque losses - there is none, as has been proven by many tests now.

Thanks for the immediate reply. Unfortunately many manufacturers only publish performance graphs for euro 4 exhausts without DB Killer only - which renders them not street legal anymore. Tests with sound inserts by indepentent reviewers show massive negative performance impacts. See for example the magazine MO 6/18 - Screenshot here under post #2035 www.gsx-r1000.de/themen/gsxr-1000-modell-2017.27595/page-102
