Me too. The one I just bought was made in January 2019. After a lot of careful consideration, I decided to get it over the new Air. Though the 2017 Air is quite a bit heavier than the new Air, it is much more portable than my old Dell Vostro 14". I love the keyboard, the design, USB A port, MacSafe, the apple logo, and the silver colour. The battery is great as well.

Yeah people dont realize that many recording and mixing artists need the old thundbolt ports, because firewire is not compatible with USB-C no matter what - as in a dongle for this connection would be impossible.

Lol this warms my heart. Everyone loving the 2017 macbook air haha.. I sold my 2012 macbook air to a friend, he's still using it today, and now for travelling, dealing with data on an external hard drive and my cameras sd card, the 2017 model has everything I need. I think i made my descision.

Great video, fast, direct and to the point. Although not sure if the 2018 mac is what I hoped it has great improvements especially the screen and processor speed but they also removed what I liked the most of the Air. Like the many ports, the usb's and sd card are must have that way you don't have to carry additional dongles. Also the travel distance of real feeling keyboard and not to mention a trackpad you can actually press. Then there's the magnetic cord connection was the best along with its signature glowing Apple Logo! Some of these features made the air special now it seems more like just another MacBook.

I'll take the 2017 model ALL DAY - ports and a great keyboard trumps everything. And there is a plus to the huge bezel around the screen on the old air...if you drop it on one of the screen sides it doesn't necessarily mean your screen is gone...the new screen would be toast...less material between impact point and glass. This guy is concentrating way too much on looks and form vs function....well like Apple is these days.

You also have to realize the new Macbook uses aluminum instead of plastic, which will make it more durable. However, your point still stands.

And most importantly the 2017 design is so good. Like i bought the M1 Air, but if wasn't for the M1, i would still buy used 2017 or 2015 model, becouse the power is not bad and the design is much better. And like the keyboard is not bad in the M1 Air, but the old one...ooh that was a special one.

you want value, go with windows. though if i remember right apple was still acceptable until 2015. i personally own a gigabyte aero 15x, but i also game a bit. if you dont game and want to save, try acer or dell. hp low end are trash. learned from previous experience

@@justatungstenrod9173 of course you can make prices look better by doing that. thats like saying 'oh this 600k$ ferrari is definitely 100k$ better than my old 500k$ ferrari' its still 500k. you compare that ferrari to a corvette, or a top end mustang, all of a sudden it turns into "why would I spend 600k when i can get nearly the same for 150k?" and apple is the same, when you start comparing apple hardware prices to windows hardware prices

I bought a MacBook Air 2017. Then, I returned it for 80% refund after I had seen the retina screen on MacBook Pro. Next, I bought a MacBook Pro 2017. However, I heard there were some problems with the disk and the keyboard, so I sold the Pro and I realized that the retina screen didn't mean to me. Finally, I bought another new Air 2017. The sales assistant in the shop thought that I was crazy or had mental problem. Anyway, the MacBook Air fits my taste and I love it now. Its design with the glue Apple logo is one of the best things Steve Job has left us in his products.

Honestly, the old macbook air webcam camera is so much clearer and brighter than the newer models in my opinion. I did a comparison and it was way less grainy and overall clearer than my new 2019 one.

In my country Air 2017 costs 1000$ and Air 2018 costs 1514 $, the difference is 500, so Air 2017 gives more value for money despite it doesn't have Retina display.

I'd like to see a detailed head to head video editing and photo editing comparison between the old and new MacBook air, it'll be interesting to see a 7watt CPU Vs 15 watt (12 watt?) i5 CPU. ( throw in a 2017 MacBook Pro into the mix too if you want). Personal thought, would the air be a better bargain if the swap the dual core i5 - 8120Y with a older U series quad core i5, say a i5 8250U? I'd like to hear from you about that

Thanks for the great review and comparison. I’m still on the mid 2013 Air (fully maxed out with an i7, 8GB RAM & 512GB HDD, so it could be worse!) and I really want to upgrade soon! The Air wasn’t even in the running as a potential new machine for me until the redesign, but now it’s definitely an option... or an older MBP, not sure yet. I did just steal £500 out of my laptop budget for a 2017 iPad Pro though, so I’ve got a bit more time to think it over while I save back up!

if you NEED apple, you should wait on the next macbook redesign that should be coming up soon, likely around october/september (when intel announces their next line) or you could save 500-1000 and get a windows machine that can be upgraded drastically cheaper

I cringe so badly when people talk about the built in speakers.. if you want a somewhat decent sound experience you should really buy external speakers.. I get sad when I think about people actually listening to music through their laptop. I know I would get depressed by listening to good recordings through this.. Other than that, its a good review.

The 2017 doesn’t look dated to me at all, it’s still a beautiful design. I still use one, and the only thing I have started to hate about it is the low resolution screen.

I still have my 2017 air...my friends who upgraded regretted it because of keyboard and t2 chip failures. I will eventually get an m1 powered version in a year or two but for now I'll keep my trusty 17 air.

There’s something cool about the silver MacBook Air. It’s like a old classic car. It has a retro feel to it. It won’t win any races but that’s okay.

The keyboard on the 2018 MacBook Air is just as problematic as the preceding versions of the butterfly keyboards. The silicone barrier did nothing to fix the problem and this is easily discovered through the Apple Support Communities and other sources. There are myriad complaints about this keyboard failing just like all the rest. The barrier was put there to quiet the keys as Apple mentioned on its own website, not to deal with a dust issue. There are many failures of the MacBook Air keyboards already, some of which occurred after only a few months. So for you to suggest that this keyboard is fixed in the new version of the Air is just wrong. No one should risk buying this computer until Apple solves the problem once and for all. Until then, the old MacBook Air is the safest bet, even though it is dated. At least you can rely on its quality build.

Both processors are sub par and are really intel’s “M” y- series chip that they rebranded as “i” to trick consumers into thinking its the real powerful U series.

@@DanRustle no the real powerful are the H series, U is just the ultrabook fitted chips. those 'core m' or 'y series' are oversized phone chips that shouldnt be used for anything above web browsing

thank you for this video! Actually I am currently deciding on which laptop to buy. Many of my friends are recommending Macbook as the top of the line. There is a sale on Macbook Air 2017 model near our place and I am thinking whether to buy the 2017 model for amost $1000 or the Acer Laptop i5 processor for only $700... Based on these video it was like I am more convinced on the Macbook latest version with sleek features and better audio and video than 2017... And my decision now is maybe I'll just wait for the sale of the latest Macbooks around...hopefully this Christmas season!!!

I rarely look at my macbook air 2017 from the side tho never had issue with the display tbh not fussed about it being laminated or touch ID 😂 I adore the glowing apple logo to x

The removal of the glowing apple logo was the thing that really ticked me off about the new Air. Along with removing the variety of ports for the C ports. I am not really appreciative of this whole "no port" technology. I'd rather carry a chunkier laptop than have one that's too slim to have decent ports. It is truly counter intuitive.
