4:07 Who shouldn't get the MacBook Air and final thoughts
My name is Fabi and I am an Engineer and Tech Enthusiast from Romania. On my KZfaq channel I do thorough reviews of gadgets, showcase my programming projects and show you which cars I am driving.
Haven’t I already done this video like 2 years ago? Well, I have, but back then, not even this guy, the 2018 MacBook Air was released.
So obviously, plenty of things have changed since then. You can’t argue against the price of the 2017 MacBook Air, so there’s still people who are thinking of buying it nowadays. Who is it for though?
If you don't care about the screen, the Air is still plenty powerful for daily tasks. It's not a powerhouse, but the MacBook Air has never been about that. So let's talk about five of the reasons why the MacBook Air 2017 is still worth picking up in 2020.
Let's say you're a writer, office worker or student, going for this MacBook not only saves you money, it also comes with some other advantages. The first generation butterfly switches included in the 2016 MacBooks pro and a few other MacBooks after that were not great, so having old-school scissor keys is great for writing. You also get more ports, including an SD card slot, which you can use as cheap albeit slow storage or the still awesome MagSafe power connector.
It's also great as a secondary laptop, let's say you have a MacBook Pro but need a MacBook when meeting clients or after a photo shoot to offload photos, if you're a photographer.
Another pretty good reason to buy it is if you want to use it connected to a monitor most of the time, watching Netflix or doing office work but still need to be able to carry it around every now and then.
It's a cheap way to join the Apple ecosystem laptop-wise
It's also a good starting laptop for aspiring Mac or iOS developers.
Don't pick it up if you're a gamer though, even playing Minecraft, you need to turn down some settings to have smooth gameplay.
This is not meant to be a full review, if you want to see how fast it is, benchmarks, check out the video on the MacBook Air I did back in 2018. The laptop is still plenty fast for everyday use, even running Matlab in a Virtual Machine isn't too much as long as you don't throw something too demanding at it.
