I am not hating on your set up, but my dude I achieved the same shift feel on my STI STS by simply installing the perrin shift stops. I think you should have tried your new set up without the shift stops and then with them on. You would then see what I mean. Congrats though, I enjoy watching you two work on cars. Good charisma! I have the STI sts in mine and maybe it's just me but I can definitely tell how there's less notchiness when you go from 1st to 2nd and from 3rd to 4th.

Hey Pat just install the perrin shift stop and notice a huge difference without having to change out much else. I also have the STI STS and I don't really race my WRX since I run my mustang, but the Perrin stops are a must have IMHO. Have a good one.

Now that it’s been about a year, do you still prefer it over stock ? Just got a 17 wrx and the throws seems sloppy

I just bought the same set up except i went for the perrin adaptor i hear its so much more notchy than the boomba plate. I dont think its going to be a good thing but im about to find out.

Gotta use a punch with a socket extension on the end of it so that you don't have to remove anything from the under body. Watch Subispeed's video of the Perrin short shifter plate. The install is a pain, but definitely doable if you take your time and don't expect to get it done in under an hour. The right size punch is critical to getting the pin out.

I think it's hit or miss with the bushing fitting the plate. Mine fit fine.

I did both and was the most amazing thing i did for the wrx but now team sti so.. on to newer things haha I'll say it was a b*tch to do lol but took about hour and a half for me and a buddy, he did have a lift though...

When I purchased my 18’ WRX premium the dealership left me a STS in my trunk. Would this be the STI STS? And is it worth installing it?

Did you add the short throw to the short throw STI setup or did you put the stock back in and add the short throw, curious cause I am buying a wrx this coming week but it has the STI short throw in it and I’m not a fan of it

Did u have any trouble putting the Perrin bushing on the boomba trans plate? It wouldn’t fit on mine

Yeah, we had to just barely drill out the center, just enough to shave off some material and it slid on.

Do you think the Boomba short throw brings the shift too close to your ebrake?

I bought my 2015 WRX with the Boomba shifter installed and it definitely puts it close to the ebrake. It caught my attention initially, but it doesn't bother me now. I'm loving having the short throw installed without having to do any of the work 😝

Boomba short shift transmission plate was the best thing I did on mine... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f76Fl858nLnHc40.html The throws are so much better now. Combined with the Perrin shift stop and brass bushing, it's now smooth and short... just like it should have been from the factory. Oh, and the heavy Raceseng Slammer knob!

Does the sti and wrx take the same parts or are the different?

cosmetic, and some of the suspension are the same parts, everything else are different

@@jaybosher6144 yo, i literally said everything except cosmetic and bits of the suspension are different. that means all the engine bay and the transmission and some stuff that support that are different ie not interchangeable

i have an 18' wrx with the STI STS as I opted for it when i built the car. I wish i drove a wrx with it as I think its about 5% shorter and a waste of an add-in. Anyone buying a wrx, do not get the STi STS, not worth it. I wish I went after market and will probably do an overhaul at some point as well.
