Ive done this job since 95 and changing tires isnt so bad.Just do it right and safely...one thing I didnt see on that truck was a tire cage to air the tires up in.I dont worry about new steers like I do the recaps.A tire can kill or hurt you bad airing it up to 110 psi.Good video..Keep on trucking.

At my first job at Hughes Aircraft in LA we had a delivery of test equipment in cabinets, about 1000 pounds each. While the truck was backing up to the loading dock I heard some unusual creaking from the back wheel. Then I noticed there were several nuts missing and the wheel was cracked about 1/3 the way around. A few more miles on the freeway and the wheel would have collapsed, possibly causing a major accident on the freeway. After unloading the driver came into the office and called his dispatcher for assistance and got it fixed. That was on Halloween of 1972, we delivered the equipment to the Navy on April Fool's day of 1974. True story.

@rickjohnson16322 жыл бұрын
@@roversnolan1 I drove CDL trucks on and off for 30 years. On road / off road . Semi / six wheelers , straight trucks . In all my years of having flats changed I never saw a torque wrench put to tire EVER. I’ve been in more than my share of big truck tire and repair shops in my life lol. Torque wrench’s came to be when everyone started running aluminum rims. It’s the only reason they use use torque wrench’s on rims actually. These young mechanics use torque wrench’s because they were trained to do it. That’s fine, I understand completely. But what I’m telling you is in 30 years of driving CDL trucks I NEVER saw a torque wrench used on a flat , on the side of the road or in a tire shop and trust me when I tell you , I’ve had more than a few flats on CDL vehicles
@MRAHALL2 жыл бұрын
@@rickjohnson1632 they've been around well before aluminum rims were used. And most tire shops Ive been to do not use a torque wrench, which they should be. It isn't just to prevent damaging the rim, it's to make sure the lug nut is providing proper clamping force against the rim. If you hammer down with an impact and stretch those threads, you would provide less clamping force than if you tightened them by hand with the lug wrench..... And it's a real pain in the ass when you're out replacing wheel studs in single digits and chasing your hard hat in the wind because the last guy thought you cranked them til they stopped with a 1" impact.

@Ken-xv4sb6 жыл бұрын
Yes, he put air in it.. (he has a compressor on his truck.. as it's running his jack, his impact wrench, etc. and you can hear it running.)... if you watch right around 10:40 the "new" tire is leaning against the trailer... the video cuts out, and he is rolling the tire back towards the trailer. Clearly he rolled it over to his truck and aired it up.

The guy sure knows how to make short work of a truck tire change. I never thought of it before but I didn't see any balancing going on when installing the new tire. @gungadinn6 жыл бұрын
Not all wheel/lug combinations work the same way. Some truck hubs have left and right hand threads. You install the wheel closest to the drum using the left hand lug nut, then the outer portion of the lug nut becomes the bearing surface for the outer wheel and it's lug nuts. Check out hub pilot verses stud pilot wheels and lug fastening systems.
@SergioPena205 жыл бұрын
Gunga Dinn that’s not the way budd style lug nuts work. If the inner was left hand thread and the outer was right hand thread, when you tightened the outer it would loosen the inner. The studs on the left side of the truck are left hand and the right side has normal threads. The newer style studs only have one set of lug nuts, all right hand thread.
