3.2 seconds to 60mph on their best run. Amazing! I really like these cars and appreciate Audi bringing these 5 cylinder monsters to the US for us. I think in most cases I would rather have one of these than a Cayman just because of the much nicer interior and tech as well as the much better sounding motor. It's not like you can really use either one to its full potential on a public road!

Have you seen the 718 cayman interior? The Audi interior is only slightly better.
@MatthewGaither
@MatthewGaither 6 жыл бұрын
I have. When I say better I am really taking into account everything relating to interior quality and comfort and that includes the virtual cockpit, sound system, extremely useful cargo area (with the seats folded down) and even the quilted leather seats which are better than any 718 seats except for maybe the 18 ways which are pricey. The 718 can be spec'ed to be as nice as the TTRS but at that point it will cost a fair bit more and still won't sound as nice or be as refined in terms of NVH. Don't get me wrong, I think the 718 cars are fantastic sports cars and I have owned a Boxster in the past. I just think the TTRS is a better all around car and I've even put my money where my mouth is (so to speak) by purchasing an Ara blue 2018 TTRS recently. Fully loaded except for the Dynamic Plus pckg for a little less than $70k and that included the Leather package and Carbon Fiber interior trim. It's exciting, luxurious, fun and puts a smile on my face every time I hit the start button and hear that 5 cylinder come to life.
@Jvilleman400

Matthew Gaither the TTRS is my dream car bro! I have a stage 2 mk7 R right now so I can keep up with a stock 5 pot but, as soon as you tune those bitches, bye bye lol the RS3 is slightly more in my budget though in the used market? Have you driven one? Does it handle kinda like the TTRs? I test drove a ttrs in Nashville the other day and it blew my mind.
@MatthewGaither
@MatthewGaither 4 жыл бұрын
@@Jvilleman400 I have not driven an RS3 although I'd still like to one day. I have had significant time in a TTRS and a 718 Cayman and the 718 is a lot more fun to drive and much more confidence inspiring. The TTRS is too isolated to be a sports car. It's fast and sounds great but does not give enough feedback when driven hard so my dream garage right now might be a 718 to have fun with and an RS3 for daily duties.
@Jvilleman400
@Jvilleman400 4 жыл бұрын
Matthew Gaither yeah that’s what I like about my golf r, it’s reasonably refined and gives you just enough road feel all at the same time, of course a 718 would probably feel way better as you’ve said but, I’m kinda torn here. Idk if I should keep my car or upgrade, the deals deals right now on cars is rediculous

I love the Audi 5 banger. I've driven both a TT and RS3 that have been tuned around 900 wheel HP with that moter now. That thing is solid as a rock. The trans holds the power as well. As soon as my hellcat lease is up, I think a TT or an RS3 will be it's replacement.

The " I prefer the Porsche" comments show the impact of the Porsche marketing machine. Porsche =10% better car for 30% more money. And of that 10%, 80% of it only shows up on the track. Their halo is alive and well! Comparably equipped, slower Cayman S is 20K more. I have paid the "badge premium" for a 911 in my younger days, no more. Having driven most everything in this price range, the TTRS is an excellent value.

I always find it interesting when reviewers give higher marks to the Porsche Cayman S. The TT's handling and stability is as close as you can get to the Porsche, (See C&D 5/2018) but the Audi destroys it both in quarter mile times *11.6 @119mph versus 12.4 @115 mph, for the Porsche. 0-60 @3.2 sec. versus 0-60 @ 4.1 sec. for the Porsche. *(C&D 5/2018) Also, the Audi has more luxury appointments and a nicer interior. IMO, the best bang for the buck goes to the Audi.

@@eaglefat9398 they are completely different cars. Do your research before you comment such a ridiculous thing. Audi even from their base models have genuine leather as a standard thing and if you ever been in one you would know the feel of true leather and high quality interiors and high tech. You get in the interior of one of these Chevy "Performance" cars all you smell is cheap plastic and that cheap walmart fake leatherette jacket seats. The Z06 is $15k more and Sure it can do 2.9 0-60 if it doesnt spin off the line and wipe out a whole crowd. And dont even drive it on the rain or slushy snow terrain that's a death sentence. Audi has that AWD quattro, great performance for any weather.
@eaglefat9398
@eaglefat9398 6 жыл бұрын
You really have no idea what you're talking about, first off corvettes only have two options real leather or real alcantara, secondly you clearly don't know jack shit about engineering because all cars use the same reinforced injection molded plastic. Lastly i test drove several Audi's and BMW's and owned two Benz before i bought my 16 Buick Regal and later my 18 Camaro. I worked as a ASE Tech in Boca FL and have tore apart nothing but high end luxury cars and can assure you they are made out of the same exact materials as every other mid level car, its only when you buy base model KIA's or chevy cruze's dose the design quality actually suffer. But by all means keep buying a name to make yourself feel important

The quoted output has got to be really under rated!
@admrob
@admrob 6 жыл бұрын
VW/Audi typically rate their output very conservatively and are likely to put the rated power down at the wheels, not at the crank. Probably one of the reasons why an A4 2.0t rated at 252 hp will keep pace with an Alfa Guilia rated at 280 hp.

I'd choose a Cayman GTS over this for sure. It's a bit more expensive, but the TT-RS simply can't match the mid engine dynamics of the Cayman, not to mention that the 718 can be had with a manual or PDK. Raw speed is NOT all that matters, not that the Cayman's 3.8 sec 0-60 is slow, by any standard! The point is, how often will you be driving the car flat out? Most of the time you'll be driving on public roads with speed limits, so overall engagement with the car, not speed, is paramount in my opinion.

If Audi uses Haldex for the AWD on the TT RS, why do they have “quattro” on the front spoiler (see 1:15)? Quattro is superior to Haldex as it can be more rear biased for better handling.

On certain roads the Porsche has an advantage with rear wheel drive. But the all wheel will smoke it on a mountain twisty road. You said the same priced Cayman 0-60 in 4.9 sec?? The Cayman S is 4.4 sec which leads me to believe you have bias or you were drinking that day. The fact is the RS is faster accelerating than all Cayman models. On the Track the Cayman manual does have a higher top speed. Bias as always for something different.

The auto Z06 does 0-60 in 2.9sec and has 650hp/650tq and can be picked up for only 5k more, not to mention a Z06 will eat this car on a track with turns, silly europeons only care about straight line performance.

The shifter when put into sequential mode, is set out WRONG!!!! It should not be push forward for upshift and pull back to downshift. Seriously surprised a car in this price range has that wrong when you can get a mazda ute that has it set out correct.

Agreed, almost destroyed my first S4 (B8.5) after getting that wrong after years of my Mazda which was set up properly. It's the same thing with that stupid 'reverse turning' dial for the MMI but that's another story.

RS3/TTRS vs. M2, S3/TTS vs. M240i, and RS4/RS5 vs. M3/M4. In my experience, the BMWs are better enthusiast cars with their proper rear-drive, weight distribution, and manual transmissions. The Audis, however, feel more special and are far less common on the road.

no its not, its a girls car like a miata with a front engine fwd biased awd system and a turbo just for 0-60 gimmick but its only good for straight line drag racing. For $50k it would have been better then great but $65k puts it into a territory with real cars that are more then a gimmick
@ThomasFerrugia

I'll be Frank I'm Leary about using my name: You have no idea what you're talking about (no offense). First - there's no such thing as 'a girls car,' only weak-willed dudes without no self-esteem who imagine that the shape of their car will magically make them less of a pu$$y. Secondly - you can get a TT for under $50,000 if all-out performance isn't you main concern (it's base MSRP is $43,950). Third - in addition to the RS's many noteworthy features (including AWD), it has an awesome and unique 5-cylinder engine. Fourth - please name two other factory-built cars that can match this car's 0-60 and 1/4 mile times, its .99 g of lateral grip, its top speed (governed at 174 MPH) and be comfortable, reliable daily drivers for only $65,00.
@ThomasFerrugia

And, once again, you've proven that you don't have any idea whatsoever about what you're talking about :-) (1) What does the fact that some people imagine that a car defines their sexuality have to do with 'PC?' (2) 70% of TT buyers are men. (3) Once again, the TT CAN BE HAD FOR UNDER $50,000. (4) Weight distribution is only an issue if the car isn't otherwise engineered to address it; the Porsche 911's weight distribution is 59/41 (rear/front) and I don't hear anyone complaining about that too much. (5) Audi is ranked among the top three brands in terms of reliability and quality. Their interiors alone are worth the cost of admission. (6) The ZL1 and the Z51 are specific track-focused performance cars with cheesy looks and plasticky interiors; unlike the TT RS, they were not designed to be comfortable daily-drivers that can be used in inclement weather (again, that AWD system) but also churn out kick-ass performance numbers at a bargain price.

"marketed towards rich 16yo to 24yo girls, demographics don't lie." You're an idiot. I am nearly certain that less than 1% of TT RS buyers fit those demographics. There are 3 of these in my town and owned by men in the 40/50s. If you live in a snowy climate as I do, the TT RS is the best sporty car outside of a Carrera 4S. The only negative is the haldex AWD which is inferior to the quattro system on my '16 S4.

True. The TT RS really is a great sporty car despite it's now undeserved hairdresser reputation. A Cayman (except GT4) is for people who can't swing a 911.

That's because you buy cars based on stat sheet performance. I'm sure the Cayman FEELS much better as a driver's car that's why they picked it.
