2018 Breakout with 115th Anniversary paint is out of this world! The Legend Blue Denim paint is incredible. The 2018 Breakout blows the 2017 and earlier breakout out of the water, as well. This bike handles great compared to previous years. The power behind a 114" Milwaukee 8 engine is far superior to years past. Check out my newest video to see the PDI of this awesome Softail, a bit of a ride, and some close ups! THANKS FOR WATCHING!!!

I'm buying a new HD Breakout because of your best ever informative videos. I'm from Queensland Australia and our RRP for a stock off the floor is $35K. If I lived in the States I would be paying you a visit and buying one from your dealership. Keep up these fantastic videos John because you're a legend at what you do!

I rode my 2017 Breakout to Sturgis and back from Florida, had it since Oct 2017 and it just turned 53k =P on the old odometer. And I added a 260 back tire, cruise control and charger.

I have to say, a year into my 115 anv breakout and I'm loving it, doesn't have the same nostalgia or f-you look n exhaust that my built up 95 heritage has buuuuut, I'm on my breakout more, since stage two is done and tuned, iv gotten a bit sketch on going full out though it'll happen. Never had any issues leaning through turns, id scrape until i changed my pegs out...now she just wants turn and burn...it feels a helluva lot better motoring through than on a sport bike, albeit not as defined, just much more comfy and smooth. Great vid and keep it unprofessional! Work gets done right when you dont have to K.A.

I'm looking to buy a 2019 breakout, i'm 6'10". How is your back on longer riding? Look wise i like it the most of the lineup but the rider position has me a bit worried.
@abstrakt26
@abstrakt26 5 жыл бұрын
@@neonrain9978 wow, ummm you've got over a foot on me as I'm only 5'6". That's a really good question, to be perfectly clear, my short legs rest comfortably stretched on the stock forward control set up although i have a longer torso and longer arms but i still have a short frame so i sit with slight forward lean onto the bars. I've done about 100 miles in single stretch thus far and at 40 yrs old, i don't have any issues that develop with my back when i get off...so far...and i do have existing back problems from bmx, mx and car accidents i had from my teens to my late 20s. I am waiting to see if HD begins to provide a harness extension (for a taller, extended riser) or if i can find bars with a bit more back/upsweep so i sit more upright and the pressure is off my hands and wrists from the current position I'm in. Id throw apes on it, but i already run 21" apes on my 95. He's right by calling it a barhopper type bike but with some tweaking it can be a decent touring ride. Now as far as you being a sasquatch...i think a breakout might be a bit small for you...have you considered a bosshoss? Im kidding btw, but seriously, you probably would sit well on it initially but i have a concern with your height, your forward lean to the bars could cause some issues down the road. Only way to know in actuality is to just test ride one and see how you feel...hope this helps

abstrakt26 i just read the reply now, missed the notifacation sorry. I made a liitle typo, i’m 6’1 and not 6’10 , im used to cm’s being from the Netherlands. So no sasquatch by far haha, thanks for the detailed explenation. You being 5’6 and me 6’1 i think it wont be much of a difference, im intending use it mainly for recreational driving and maybe a little touring here and there but no 100’s of miles. Its getting delivered tommorow! I’m super excited, i might keep an eye out for tgose risers like you said but maybe its good as it is. Thanks!

The test ride was very cool. Glad the new camera and gear worked out. That bike is SICK looking! Like you said the 3.5 gal tank and lack of cruise is a deal breaker. No I haven't. I only own the bike about 1 month. Put 70 miles on it before the weather turned bad up here. It's the bar hopper and only plan on local rides with it.
@TheHarleyTech

That’s what I expect for most people to use it for. That’s why I think it’s funny everyone is mad about losing fuel capacity. I just don’t see people riding 120 miles without stopping very often, if ever. Hope the weather gets better!
@twomontess
@twomontess 6 жыл бұрын
5 gal tank is about 200 miles a tank right ? So no I probably won't be riding the bike 200 miles or even 120 without a break. I might shoot down the highway for a quick 50 mile blast. I find the BO rather comfortable for what it is but its not a long haul comfort. I agree with you.

Had a real up close look at the full line for 2018 at the bike show in Toronto, Canada this past weekend. The new Softail line is so nice , great lines on all the bikes for 18 and that Breakout looks so sweet and low with a big fatty on the rear. I do wish Harley would just package all their goodies like cruise and ABS. I'm still holding out for the Deluxe, think that will be my next HD, once my bank account gets over the new Indian Scout withdraw.

I have a 16 Breakout Stage 1 Twin Cam. It is not my daily (17 Road King) so as you said, mostly a bar hopper but I love it! I think it is one of the coolest looking stock Harleys. Mine is in the hard candy black/gold metal flake...very sweet! Definitely a little "slow" into the turns (240 rear rubber) but you get used to it. I'm not a fan of the Anniversary paint this time around! Dull blue is just not cool for an old guy like me ;) Thanks for the cool videos! keep 'em comin!!

This is one well thought out beautiful machine, love that paint. Having sold my 2009 Street Glide a few years ago, haven't been riding since, but after seeing this beauty I might be getting back into it. Not concerned at all about the 3.5 gallon tank, after riding for a few hours, taking a break wouldn't hurt a thing. The only thing that disappoints me is no cruise control, but there are devices available to hold the throttle grip. I think I got myself talked into it. Yikes!

Hey John, does the clamping area for the 2018 breakout step down to a 1" clamp OR it is 1.25"? I found a 12 " handlebar for the 2018 breakout but the notes on that state that it is a 1" clamp section.

Great video! I dig the regular Breakouts but I love my 2017 CVO Pro street breakout more. Lol. I do like having a 5 gallon tank because I do ride my CVO on long rides. I rode it from Arizona to Los Vegas once. The CVO kicked ass on that ride. LOL. I was thinking about putting some slip ons on my bike, when I do will I need too get it remap? If you don't mind me asking.

It’s hard to say. Best bet is to have a run done to see where you stand. Because the bike already has a high flow air filter on it, it might run a bit lean on wide open throttle.

New subscriber here. I really like this paint and the new breakout. The only thing i'm questioning is why Harley went so much chrome and black at the same time? Almost like they couldn't decide which way to go with it. I think it would have looked even better if all those chrome bits and motor covers etc was blacked out against that blue paint. Just a small gripe though i guess...

Man, just saw this video the other day and I'm really digging the 115th anniversary paint, they still have 2018 anniversary breakouts laying about you think? I have a 99' sportster I was planning on just getting running again (ignition problems/old tires) but this breakout I think I like enough... I hear the rake, lean angle, and wide rear tire kind of make the breakout annoying to ride versus another softail, but it might be something you just have to try / get use to? Also, the battery access on these new bikes... some one needs to force the harley engineers to do some service work
@awright2009

Got me one, 412/1900, my old Sportster is definitely more maneuverable, but the breakout is better everywhere else. Edit: from the ride home awright2009.com/IMG_0165.JPG -- Need to take off the engine guard, and it has some rhine harts pipes that arent bad

I’m sure eventually it will be. The twin cam started as an 88 and ended a 110. It also took 8 years for them to do it. I think we will see more “specials” offered in a 114 a little sooner than the twin cam line, but only HD knows when! Thanks for watching!

Putting that new helmet to good use, i dig the ride along. If you had a 107, would you think the feeling in the seat is worth it to step up to the 114? I'm thinking about doing a stage 4 on the FLHXRS in the spring.
@TheHarleyTech
@TheHarleyTech 6 жыл бұрын
A 107 has a lot of power, but a 114 has TONS. I think that's part of why I was so impressed with this bike, too. I'm used to 107 touring bikes because there are more of them at this point (considering 2017s have been out for awhile). A 600 pound bike with a 114 is insane! We've put up some decent numbers with the 114 kits, though. I think I show off some graphs in this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nbh5hdJ4kt7JgWQ.html. something like 120 and 115, I think. Yea, you'll notice that, for sure!

@rustyspoons992
@rustyspoons992 6 жыл бұрын
As a whole i think the bike is stock aside from the seat and handlebars. I did some research and 1985 was a 1 year only combination engine and trans. In 84 and 85 an FXST also had a 4 speed. In 84 a wide glide was still a shovelhead.

I'm curious John, is any of the reduced weight on the new breakout tied in to the reduced fuel capacity/weight of fuel onboard?
@TheHarleyTech
@TheHarleyTech 6 жыл бұрын
For sure, some of it has to be. The frame in general is lighter, too. I'm not 100% sure where they saved all the weight, but it's supposed to be about 35 pounds total across the softail lineup. I'm guessing most of it is in the frame, since all the models lost about 35 pounds.

I hope they stuff the 114 in the street bob next year. I test rode a 107 SB and it was really good I must admit. I think the 114 might make me pull the trigger on trading my 2015 TC 103 Dyna fat bob. My one concern in that the M8 is counterbalanced and i believe rigid mounted, which made the TC Softails not great for touring distances over 65 mph because of buzz. Didn't get a chance to open up the M8 street bob for any length of time to check it out.

I haven’t opened one up too good, yet! When they are other people’s bikes I ride a little different! As far as 114s go, you can always make it a 114!

So I'm a bit of a novice on harleys, as I'm just a kid yet. Rode my first bike (which I'll let you laugh at me for, that little thing was a champ) for about 3 years. I'm 6'5'' 275 pounds, my first was a 2015 harley street 750 (alright, let it out). It sounded like a moth queefing when it was stock. Obviously this is a big boy bike, not a little toy like the street (although it still did almost a hundred with my big ass on it) so it's going to be louder stock, but have you heard one with any sort of aftermarket exhaust? I threw a slip on vance and hines on my street and it almost sounded like a real motorcycle after I ripped the quieting baffle out of the end. If you have any experience on a street (which I'll only tease you a little for too) how would you compare the driveability of the two. (I could pick the street up and throw it while riding, it was a lot more agile than I thought it would be) I just know that the breakouts are significantly lighter than great big touring bikes, and the only rides we really do around these parts are like 5-6 hours long at most so a lighter bike that might have to stop at one of the bar hops won't really be all that terrible. I've been stuck in a real weird rut between trying to go and snag a Chieftain dark horse, or one of these 'little' bad boys, so if you have any views on the indian I'd love to hear what you think. I'd go test drive the chieftain, but that's definitely not a middle of nowhere wisconsin find, I'd have to go down to madison to even look. Thanks in advance for any insight you can throw at me

Absolutely bad the central Euro license plate: too weak plastic one, is a dancer on the tire with big risk to broke it while driving :/

Out of curiosity why is so much put into the 115th anniversary? Is it significant for any reason ?
@TheHarleyTech
@TheHarleyTech 6 жыл бұрын
Every 5 years they do anniversary paint, anniversary clothing, parts, and on and on. The bikes are numbered, and the clothes are released at the beginning of the year, and once they’re gone, that’s it. Most companies do various anniversaries for models, and their companies. There just aren’t any other 115s going on!

I've got one more question for you. I've got a stage 2 torque cam in mine and currently have a set of slip ons on. It has long been said that Harley Davidson has one of the most loyal fan bases of any product. This is the good news. But, like many things in life, where there is positives, there are negatives as well and vice versa. Many people think Harley Davidson's really don't change, which I don't personally believe but I have heard this from others. A good reason why people say this is because Harley Davidson has to walk a fine line between growing their fan base while not alienating their core customers. As such, their designs retain a classic look. Underneath the surface, there are many modifications that at the minimum keep Harley Davidson's as modern as their counterpoints. Generally, Harley Davidson will introduce innovations that improve ride quality, performance, and overall quality. However, I never understood why it either has to be satisfying traditional riders versus designing different types of products. The Japanese motorcycle manufacturers make all different types of bikes, sport bikes, cruisers, touring, dirt bikes, mopeds, etc. You name it and they make it. Perhaps this is the reason why they haven't been able to come close to matching Harley Davidson's loyal fan base. The VROD, which happens to be my favorite model was a revolutionary model for Harley Davidson and demonstrated that Harley Davidson is more than capable of producing a high performance and sophisticated motorcycle. In speaking to different, local Harley Davidson dealers, have told me that some view the VROD as the best bike Harley Davidson has ever produced, while others disliked it because it wasn't a real Harley. Therein lies the problem. In reading and watching reviews, the products Harley Davidson are making today, have received widespread positive acclaim, which indicates Harley Davidson is successfully melding sophistication with tradition. The motorcycle industry is extremely competitive and it should be remembered that in order to stay on top, Harley Davidson must continue to modernize, they can't stay still. Yes, Harley Davidson has a long and storied history that should never be forgotten. But, it's equally true that they must build on their rich traditions in order to stay the leaders in motorcycling.
