FORD has their act together,especially in their Super Duty line,it's very serious business and that is why I so enjoy your channel,you,too,take things very seriously,taking care in all of the prep work which is sooo important to real world conditions.Besides seeing the Rockie's in snow is always incredible! Thanks for all of hard work ,it shows!

Mike Cady I completely agree with you. There are a lot of YT channels related to vehicles, but most are goofy vlogs for Millennials, and the vast majority of the rest simply don't hold a candle to this channel/these guys. I'm a firm believer in giving praise when due, and the TFL guys deserve it.

Maybe it's just my local dealers but it seems as if Dodge has the market as far as price is concerned. Ford and Chevy seem roughly similar when you're shopping for similar-spec vehicles. I agree that the price of these things is outrageous, the time to buy is at the year-end clearance when they're knocking $13k off the price. If they can discount them like that then you know they're overpriced to begin with.

Super nice truck well worth the money had a 5.4 triton before and about killed it towing my camper in mountains this thing will tow in the mountains like the trailer isn't even there. Crazy powerful super comfortable truck

Idk I just priced out a 2020 F250 on Ford’s build your own tool and was actually surprised at the price. I was thinking around $80k. I built a XLT, 4x4, FX4 package, crew cab, short bed loaded with options including the sport package and landed at $65k. I think that’s a fair price.

We were on a trip back from Utah. Driving on 70 in a snow storm at night. Not fun. They closed the highway around the tunnel. We stopped at a rest stop not far and slept in the car (we had camping gear). Early morning I awoke to a scary looking guy with a grizzly beard. He was knocking on the window saying something I couldn’t understand. I look out and there is a huge line of cars. Turns out the guy was waking us. As we slept a very large tree fell directly behind our car missing us, but completely blocking the drive. We had to move the car to allow folks to continue to pull in. It was a trip I’ll never forget. Cool area that’s for sure.

I have this almost exact same truck with 3:31 gearing and it's an XLT Premium. I pull a 30' bumper pull toy hauler (14K#) all over the western US. My only complaint is that the truck should have Airlift from the factory. Easy enough to add, which I've done but still Ford should have this on already. Truck has great power, good towing economy, is extremely comfortable and quiet, and is as reliable as an anvil.

They do fuel economy loops unloaded with trucks as they're able to but, realistically, I wouldn't expect more than 18 MPG highway at best. These are working trucks, despite all of the luxuries they pack into them they still aren't built to be a daily driver for people who don't have anything more than an occasional (at best) use for a 3/4 ton diesel truck.

So the 2018 F-250 comes with a 3 in receiver (like 350)and I assume 2.5 insert. Mr. Truck deducted points for that. So is that because you can’t get down to a 2 in receiver? I guess from the 2.5 one in the 2017. Thought the 3 in improved tow rating and this is a bad thing ?

Yeah same. I mean you can always use more hitch to haul less trailer. IOW put a 2" or smaller ball on a 2.5" ball mount if that's what you need. Most trailers of any note use the bigger 2 5/16 and 3" ball anyway. Both my 10k trailers are the former. That just leaves the tow dolly in the small size.

@michaelbenoit248
@michaelbenoit248 4 жыл бұрын
@@JJR1371John, I disagree. There is a comparison. one has emissions junk, and one does not. one can burn WMO, WATF, & WVO and one cannot. One will just keep on going with regular maintenance. And the other will quit at 300K and one will not.
@JJR1371
@JJR1371 4 жыл бұрын
Michael Benoit Nah. No comparison. A modern day F150 has more towing capacity and horsepower than a 7.3, and damn near the same amount of torque. The new 6.7 is a semi in comparison. Emissions are emissions. Even with them, the truck puts out basically double everything, and triple the towing capacity. I like the old trucks too, but I wouldn’t compare them the same way that I wouldn’t compare a mustang to a Prius.
@michaelbenoit248
@michaelbenoit248 4 жыл бұрын
The 7.3 has the longevity/reliability factor in it. The 7.3 can make over 600hp and 1000ftlbs of torque, but engine is dialed back for longevity and reliability.
@JJR1371
@JJR1371 4 жыл бұрын
Michael Benoit We aren’t talking about what they “can make”, we’re talking about what they do make. You can easily double if not triple the numbers on the 6.7 as well. A few simple mods puts these new trucks numbers in well over that of most tractor trailers. Longevity blah blah blah. These new trucks are lasting quite well! Tons of people with 400-500+ on the forums going strong. The only reason there are higher mileage 7.3’s out there is because the 6.7 hasn’t had 30 years to rack up the miles. There is no indication these new rigs won’t be as, if not more reliable. All the need is time.

Well if you know something at all about the runaway lanes and it appears by your statement you don't, is that yes they have the steep angle to take off the speed plus the lane is soft, usually filled with loose gravel about 2 feet worth along the whole lane, this combination helps stop the vehicle safely in a short distance. Plus the gravel will help hold the vehicle so it will not roll back into traffic. Been there done that...Hope this explanation helps, And for the love of God,,,Do Not stop at the entrance of these runaway lanes for any reason...which people have done and have had there vehicle destroyed when a truck has lost their brakes....

Now that's funny. A 1/2 ton is great for a 12500 trailer if you buy a new truck every year or have a transmission savings account. All the big 3 have about the same payload which I guess in your opinion doesn't say much for any of them lol. Maybe you have an xtra super duty that has a 6k payload thats what mine is it was a limited edition experimental model and it will tow 85,000 pounds at 25 MPG. The number 17,500 lbs is only for Ford F250 Diesel with high capacity towing package and long wheel base! Your truck has a short wheel base! Also, the GCWR 22,500 lbs is a wrong number too. It is over 24,000 lbs.

No, it's not legal. On the return to Denver, ski traffic can be a bear. Especially if ice and snow, sliding down hill, moisture in tractor-trailer brakes will freeze at least the trailer brakes, about the time the ski traffic in front of you slows or stops.

Not a bad point, but did this F-250 have the 10-speed? I don't think Ford has HD-ified that transmission yet. On the F250 configurator there are only 6-speed transmission options, so I don't know that the 3.55 gears are so much a result of the 10-speed. I could be more of an MPG play with the existing drive train.

Don’t need 3.73 or 4.10 with the amount of torque the diesel puts out. The gearing of the 6 speed transmission helps too. My 2013 F350 has 3.55 gears with the 6.7, and it pulls my 24’ enclosed car trailer like it’s not even there.

I feel like it'd be best to save these runs for spring/summer time. In winter each day or even hour is so different and it throws off speed, fuel economy and overall performance so much.. you'll never get a fair comparison betweeb trucks. Maybe focus more on winter driving characteristics, practicality and cold starts etc. in winter.

Yeah ,,agree. Just not on the people can afford them , most people in these days are going into debt to their eye balls and very small percentage can afford to pay cash for a new vehicle. Also they have made 6 and 7 year car loans so common to try and keep the monthly note the same as if you bought a $45k vehicle with a 5yr payment option , they figured out that if the consumer can afford the monthly payment they don't think about or care for how long it takes to pay off just long as they have it , because people just want what's new or to make a statement to try and keep up with the jones' , also banks really need vehicle loans to keep the system working, I have a video in my "realtalk" playlist about how the bank system fed reserve and so on works its very professional and well put on educating on that subject .. we are living in the times lol !

@406Steven
@406Steven 6 жыл бұрын
The boiling point of water at atmospheric pressure at sea level is, indeed, 212 degrees. Coolant is not just water, though, and antifreeze is not just there to reduce the freezing point--it also raises the boiling point. Cooling systems have been pressurized for decades to further increase the boiling point of the coolant and engines have been engineered to run hot for emissions reasons for at least 30 years now. Perhaps they can re-run the test with the same load on a steep hill in Arizona in August and compare coolant temps? I'd bet 227-231 degrees, which is still within nominal operating temperatures of these engines.

To be fair, I think this test should be run again, and only on dry roads in good weather. I'm thinking here of wheel spin however slight, which would affect almost all outcome. How much more weight was gradually being added from freezing slush sticking to truck and trailer. There are too many variable's in this crappy weather such as humidity of the ai, not ideal driving surfaces etcetera, and it is not a fair comparison to the other contenders, unless of course, they are all run on this same day/weather. This is only my opinion, I could be wrong.

Reg Sparkes You're absolutely right. I guess it would be hard for them to have multiple trailers and drivers (who would do the camera work?), but it would be the only fair way to test them. Unfortunately, these guys only get these press demonstrator vehicles for a short period of time so they have to take the truck they're given and do the best they can while they have it. Ideally, we'd see an objective test performed all on the same day but TFL Truck does the best of anyone I can name at being objective and trying to minimize variables. At the end of the day, I think we need to be objective in our analysis of their data and the conditions and make an informed decision based off of that. With the way the truck market is now, I think people are down to either buying based on brand loyalty or which dealer will work with them the best.

But Cummins doesn't make a tow vehicle... They do make a great engine, though. The Dodge (or Ram, as they're called these days) trucks are great trucks, particularly when they are equipped with a Cummins engine. I don't care about the lower HP number or the lower rated torque, etc. because when the rubber hits the road their time up the gauntlet isn't that much slower than Ford or Chevy but their MPG is better and I would rely on the Cummins engine to outlast a Duramax or PowerStroke, the rest of the truck is the tricky bit though.

Rxonmymind very little to no sway even at 80 mph on long trips. As a matter of fact I can’t even tell the trailer is back there I have to keep looking in my mirrors lol. The ride and comfort is the same unloaded as it is pulling my 6500 lb camper. Mine is a 28 ft Jayco bumper pull travel trailer. Some squat like you see in this video but not bad at all, the truck still level. As for a F350 for 8k I would say no and stick with the F250, unless you get in that 10k plus weight or move up to the big fifth wheels. As for power, this thing is a literal beast. Tons of power and torque. It laughs at steep grades and big hills. Also, these trucks have the engine breaking system that is amazing going down big steep grades. I put mine in auto mode on trips towing the camper.
