VW bought back my TDI 6 months ago and I was looking to replace it. I looked at every high MPG car on the market including the Tesla's. Glad I waited for the Ioniq Plug in Hybrid. Bought the Ioniq Plug In Hybrid Limited with the Ultimate package last week one of the first ones to arrive in the US. Have put 2400 miles on it already. Car is getting 55MPG actual mileage from personal fuel logs. (sicker says 52) What a pleasure to drive. Honestly one of the best deals on the market. I love the option to go all electric. Hyundai says 29 miles on a fuel charge. When driving on battery power I'm getting closer to 40 miles all electric. I was a little worried about performance since I live in the Rocky Mountains but it climbs steep grades with ease. Drove to Anaheim CA and back last weekend. Hotel I stayed at had a level 2 charger. Charged up the car overnight. Drove to downtown Los Angeles Saturday morning and found a ChargePoint station with front row parking to plug into while we went shopping came back to fully charged car. Drove back to Anaheim without using a drop of gas for the trip there and back. Car has a learning curve. So many features I'm starting to figure out the best way to drive for different conditions. Having a blast doing it.

Good for you, so the way to go is the plug in hybrid, not the hybrid?

does the plug-in version have selectable levels of regen braking? I noticed the fully-electric has it on the paddle "shifters" on the steering wheel.

Bought one after owning Prius for 13 years (still bullet proof). Averaging 2 litres per 100 km. Or over 100 miles per gallon. Mix of short 20 km drives and some over 250. It drives beautifully. Perfect for 4 in comfort. Easy to drive and great technology. Love driving it in electric. If you have to accelerate really quickly the gas engine will kick in for extra boost. But it will stay in electric for most driving. Electric bill has not changed that much. I would get another in a heartbeat.

If you pre-heat the car while plugged in, that will save you a lot of energy in cold climates. You can set up a schedule that automatically prepares the car for when you start in the morning and afternoon. It does have the hardware for app support as well, but they have only enabled it in Asia as of spring 2018; when that comes out in the rest of the world, you'll be able to check on the car and start pre-heating from your phone.

I didn't knew that! I just bought the car (Premium) but is still waiting for delivery... I searched on Google Play, but don't think the app is available yet. Does it use electric to heat up the car or petrol? I live in a cold climate, so that is perfect for me. Looking forward to trying it out!

With EV only mode, I can fully drive it on highway speed as well?

Yes you can. Up to 120 kph.

Where I live in Saskatchewan all the highways are 2 lanes. I'm concerned that in severely cold weather will this buggy be able to go 100kph -- I don't want to be the old man that holds up all the drivers behind him because his car can only go 45kph at minus 30 degrees. I realize the electric range will be reduced also.

It should be able to do 100kph no problem because it still has a 1.6 naturally aspirated engine -- that alone is plenty even if electric is completely empty

ontario rebates knock it only 2500 now. plus our 13% HST tax negates the discounts and adds extra to the bottom line. if you buy in like alberta or somewhere with a lower tax rate, then by all means youll be saving several thousand dollars

Don't these have HEATED seats so that you don't have to 'crank' the climate control to get warm?

It does. They're powerful too. But my Italian blood doesn't like the cold so the heat must be cranked even still.

Without heated air the windshield tends to fog up pretty quickly and your feet tend to get pretty cold. I've test driven this car and even though I was pretty excited about it, the lack of electric cabin heating (which also means no preconditioning!) killed it for me. Also 0kg rated roof load. So close, Hyundai, yet so far away. Fix it and I'll buy one.

I thought the ioniq phev doesn’t have EV only mode?
@_TrueDesire_
@_TrueDesire_ 6 жыл бұрын
jamauai it does, as long as the battery gauge is in the "blue area". when it drops down to low/white it's 'just' hybrid (more efficient than std hybrid though)

The ICE will still kick in if you really hit the gas pedal or if you require heating as far as I know. So there isn't really a pure EV mode. But if you handle the gas pedal smoothly it should be possible to drive fully electric only.

So what do you know about the Canadian 'solid-state battery' tech and licensing the Chinese to make it? (Toyota has been trying to crack that nut but no announcement yet)

Savercop Yes, depending on temperature, and testing conditions. According to UK spec (I believe) you get 63km. According to North American spec, 47km.
