Why would you say, "and why we got rid of it"? If you're leasing, of course you're getting rid of it, but then you leased another CX-5. Click bait much? I have a 2013 CX-5 with zero problems. All he really complained about was the seat control.

Actually if you lease you do have a option if you want to keep the car or just return it back to the dealer. If you want to keep the car you have to pay the remaining value of it.

I've owned my 2018 for almost 3 years and just ticked over 100K miles, no issues whatsoever. I do wish the seats were more supportive and at times it feels underpowered but it does most everything else very well. I purchased the car in January of 2018 with 16K miles, next car will most likely also be a Mazda

Best car I have ever owned. A point about the other vehicles you referenced. By far, the CX5 has the most cabin room and makes that room available for people. At 6'4", comfort behind the wheel is a premium feature. Add to that highway fuel economy exceeding 34 mpg, after 3 years, plenty of go off a stop which is important at highway on ramps...and you have a winner.

I just bought my 2018 CX-5 Touring for $17,200 at the end of my lease (residual value). It had 18940 miles on it, and I did all my oil changes (every 4K miles with Mobil1 Extended Full Synthetic), and kept it immaculate in my garage. Car prices have skyrocketed, and I thought where can I buy a great car in this great of shape for $17,200? I couldn't, so I bought it :) Love this car...zero problems, drives great, and I don't see a reason it won't easily hit 150K miles with proper maintenance. Congrats on your new 2021 CX-5 Grand Touring...it looks gorgeous!

I would have thought that at 20k miles, the bumper to bumper warranty would still be in place and you could have had the seat trim replaced. Just picked up a CX-5 for my wife and she loves it. I will agree on the thin paint. Be sure to get some touch up paint and keep it handy.

As the owner of a 2018 Mazda 3 Touring, 2020 Mazda 3 Carbon edition and a 2021 CX-9 Carbon Edition these are the most amazing price to quality cars out there. The mpg, the amazing quality, the luxurious feel they give, they're quite amazing. However with my dealer I DO have problems and they are very stuck up and hate when I have warranty issues. Even on my 2020! They will fight tooth and nail with me for something that's obviously warranty and say it's not their problem, pretty ridiculous when I've bought 3 cars from them

Was at a Subaru dealer recently to pick up my partner's Gen 2 Forester and I casually mentioned to the service advisor that I had a newer Mazda CX-5 and he had nothing but praise for it and thought it was mechanically better than the Forester. The CX-5 has a 6-speed transmission which I like better than the CVT on the Forester, and doesn't have the ridiculous engine shutoff the Forester has that kicks in every time the Forester comes to a complete stop. The Forester does have a softer ride, but the CX-5 feels tighter in terms of handling.

Wow, what was the trim level you drove? Because every major car reviewer, consumer reports, car guru, and others say how high end the interior is and if you didn't know it was a Mazda you were sitting in you may think it's a luxury European car. And the transmission shouldn't be jerky. I'm so sorry you had a not so great experience. I love mine and bought it based on the reviews I saw.

I bought a 2014 Mazda CX-5 the first with the sky active technology in 01/13 it was their top of the line Signature model. I recently traded it in for a 2021 Mazda CX-5 Carbon Addition. The new has a lot of more features and is quieter in the inside, but the biggest plus is the turbo engine. The real surprise is I paid about the same for both vehicles $31,000. How does Mazda 8 years later sell me a better equipped CX-5 for the same money? Mazda for the money is the best car line on the market. The CX-5 is my wife’s I am waiting to see if Mazda will come out with the 6 in rear wheel drive with the inline 6 cylinder engine. If they do I will be first inline.

I know what you mean but the fuel gauge isn’t so friend. If you look at the total gallon when you fill up to full, if it’s probably around 10-11 gallons. The car have a 14.8 or 15.3 gas tank capacity so if you think about it, the extra 3-4 gallons before empty can get you another 100 miles.

I’ll have to see if she filled it all the way. Also her trip 2 was 3,000kms and showed 13L/100kms. Mazda needs a hybrid option. I really thought the projected digital speedometer on the windshield was safe and cool. The lack of Apple CarPlay & Lane Keep Assist was a minor inconvenience. The leather seats looked cheap.

When I was a tech at a Mazda Dealership we noticed a few times that plastic cover getting broken like that. Every time it was caused by the operator/driver. Usually people who are short. They slide out of the seat which puts pressure on the panel. Or because the seat is too far forward and as they get out their feet kick the bottom of the panel. I am about 6 foot and never had that issue getting in and out of the vehicle.

First 2 had over 200 thousand miles on them and all I ever did was put a half shaft in one because my wife hit a few deep potholes. I changed plugs in the 92 at about 120 grand in the summer , but it didn't need them. the 2011 has 75 thou on it and the 2020 has 5000 I love both of them , especially the 2020 cx5 . I am an old man and it already saved me from an accident , I started to change lanes ,safety beeped and light came on and I stopped , guy went past me , after hanging on my bumper for?

He makes a great point at about 6:10 about getting another CX-5. I had two consecutive Mazda 3's of the same generation - a 2014 and 2018 - and I have NEVER done that before (I've been owning cars since 1986). My 3's were also a Touring-to-Grand Touring step up. I now have a 2019 CX-5 GT Reserve and not one competitor makes me want to leave it. Mazda has a magic to it that I hope they don't lose. I was a Honda driver for 18 straight years because they just had that something about them; then they lost the plot (and regained it recently, but then also dunked their head in the CVT/economy turbo bucket, so I'm not quite interested again).

Wonderful review man! I was worried at first but I’m glad to see you still love the CX-5. I am looking at the CX-5 or the 2022 Civic Sedan Sport. I know they are in two different segments, but they are practical, reliable and fun. Does the CX-5 provide a “fun” enough drive, or should I go for the Civic?

Funny, I'm looking at the 2022 Civic Hatch myself as well, along with the CX-5. I'm a big Honda fan, especially after owning 3 civics and putting 400K miles on my '93 Accord. But Honda reliability ain't what it used to be. I would be careful.

How you noticed a difference in how the seat feels between the 2018 and the 2021? I've been reading in the forums that the comfort of the leather seats have changed after 2019...that they are firmer now. I have a 2021 and I feel the seats are very firm.

They do feel firmer but we moved from fake leather to real leather. My parents also noticed the seats dont get as hot from the seat heaters in the real leather seats as they used to in the fake leather. A full review of the 2021 CX-5 will be available on my channel on May 25th!

@@billystack I have a 2020 CX-5 Signature. It has Nappa leather seats and they were a bit firm at first but perhaps not as firm as the Mazda's standard leather. Gradually they will soften as the leather naturally breaks in from repeated use.

I have a 2018 GT model and have had zero issues. It rides great but I hoped for better fuel economy. I did get rid of the ridiculous looking pizza rims and replaced them with the later model oem rims and it looks much better. Sold the pizza rims for $800 so I can't complain. No problem with the seat panel falling off as I don't weight over 300lbs.

Just bought a 2021 Grand Touring, same color, so glad to hear about the paint. I am still learning all the features. I have one question. When you raise or lower the power tailgate is there any safety mechanism that will stop it in case a kid tries to reach in when coming down. Or, when raising in a new spot, stopping it from hitting the parking deck top. The windows have one so if you have your arm out the window it stops. The liftgate is much heahier.

I just returned my 2018 CX-5 Gran Touring and picked up a 2021 CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve. The only issue I had with my 2018 was the anti reflective coating on the nav screen was peeling/flaking off which made seeing it in daylight terrible. Other than that I absolutely loved the car. I had the machine grey and you are right about the thin paint. That thing scratched just by looking at it. I got my 21 in silver. Hopefully the paint is thicker. I’m loving the turbo power in my new model.

We're at 50k on our '16 and so far it's normal maintenance. We aren't hamstring with lease milage limitations. I will agree the soul red paint is not durable. It looks great, but can't (rock) chips like crazy. Mazda needs to use German paint. Our replacement will be bigger, think CX-9/Telluride/Grand Cherokee...

I posted this on another review: I just finished paying off mine after 6 years, and I have a list of what bothers me with mine: hellishly shocky ride quality, bad brakes, infotainment system that sometimes chooses a random screen when I start the car, when I re-select the song list from a USB thumb drive it always takes me back to the top instead of showing me the currently playing song, A/C sometimes likes to switch from dash vents to floor vents while cutting off the compressor (a real necessity in the summer). I see that they moved the start button out from behind the steering wheel, but on my 2016 it made no sense to have the start button obscured. The one thing I do like above the competition is that this car has a real transmission & no CVT. As soon as I take care of a few things I'm trading mine in for something with a better ride and more reliable. Something I forgot to mention before is that a few times a year the navigation claims I don't have the SD card installed and I need to go Mazda to get one. After I restart the car the navigation detects the SD card. There were two recalls, one for the gas filler and one for the rear door struts. Something that many CX-5 owners have mentioned is the center console compartment latch will eventually break and a new latch will need to be installed. I got mine for about $6 at the dealer and I installed it myself.

Such a misleading title: it’s a lease return and the family lived it enough to buy another CX-5. Using the phrase “Got rid of it after 20,000 miles” is a cheap shot. I won’t be watching this channel anymore as I bought a new CX-5. You are good enough to not throw out these clickbait titles. Too bad. I don’t like games. Too bad.
