Installing the needed security bypass cable needed on all 2018 and newer Chrysler products. Cable is needed for obd port access for alfaOBD, obd flashers, and other obd programs
UPDATE JUNE 2022: original cable that i used failed. i have installed the other one.

Do u read locked pcm with the bypass 1st before u put in the unlocked pcm then use the diablo tool into the bypass and go from there?

Thanks for the video. I am hoping to purchase an OBD module to install the trailer tmps sensor option that comes in the newer models 2021+. Being a 2018 Ram which utilized 3g service to operate is there any worry of someone hacking into these vehicles? I am resistant of purchasing their darn doggie and signing up with a different cellular carrier just for the luxury of the navigation system when I can used my cell phone instead.

I just did a cluster swap on my 2018 2500 Tradesman. I thought I could just use alfaobd to change my mileage and hours. Will the single wire one work with what I am doing? Edit: I see your update with the correct harness.

Installing that new cable does not work anymore Ram stopped wiring all the extra ports on the white box so you can't plug it in to anything that works.

Hey man, I really appreciate this vid. 2018 Ram 2500 here, just put 35's on it and the tire pressure threshold has been driving me crazy. Lil research and I find out about AlfaOBD and OBD Link. grad the part and purchase the program for my laptop. Get everything in, go step by step with vid...I get the "Procedure complete, but status us unknown". For some reason I think that maybe the program and my laptop aren't compatible, so I run to walmart and grab a cheap android tablet. Get home and go to DL the program......windows version and android version are sold separately. F-it, this crap is making me crazy every time I start the truck.......still doesn't work. I do some more research, your vid pops up. Ordering the cable now. Just wanted to thank you for taking the time to make the video, really helps guys like me. Thank you again The Blind Mechanic (i'm not really blind, but I mind as well be when I try to fix sheeet)

This will not work on a 2018 Ram Ecodiesel, just in case anyone needs to know. I just confirmed that with Thoroughbred Diesel (in your link). Thanks for the video though.

When I installed my OEM brake controller I had to put the Security Gateway Overide module into the port behind the LCD. Does your setup alleviate the need to do that?

2018 and up needs the bypass cable. im not 100% sure the 5th gen have the connections in the same location. alfa obd does not support iphone unfortunately

Question.... when you talked about unhooking all this for service at the dealer- what all has to be unplugged/removed from the truck? Will the dealership not be able to communicate with my truck’s computer with all this plugged in? But I have a 2018 Limited 1500 so I’m assuming this is the same on mine?

@Bill Plaisance they should still be able to connect to it but there is always the chance they may have issues. i look at is as if the know it there they will have the suspicion that you have been into the computer. if you were to unhook it just remove the harness that was installed.

I’m a certified Chrysler technician, if you still have warranty on your vehicle there is a chance that a bypass will void the warranty. This video shows the bypass being pinned into a BUS bridge ( star connector), the actual module is a security module designed to keep your warranty intact and unauthorized (not certified Chrysler personal) out of the vehicles system. My advise would be to wait until your factory warranty has expired before messing around with the electrical system. If the bypass isn’t installed correctly or if it does not work, this may result in a no crank no start condition as the vehicle security gateway is doing what it is designed to do. Hope this helps anyone thinking of installing this or a similar device in their vehicle.

@@stephenpacheco7873 so there's a chance if something is wrong with the bypass, the cable or just not being hooked up right that it can keep my truck from starting? Thats certainly a bummer of a possibility but what about people with lifetime warranties through mopar mvp? My factory bumper to bumper warranty ended back in December so the warranty I paid for at signing will be for as long as I own it.

@@JeremyHellums-jx2qi so, do you or do you not have one of these security module bypass cables? Either way, your Snapon code reader should be able to access the codes on your computer. I have a little Bosch brand OBD II code reader that worked just fine with my truck before I even put one of these bypass cables in here.

Just curious but why is it the place that sells the cable that you are using, says that cable only works with the diesel pickups? I’m just trying to find out what works and what doesn’t work but I emailed the manufacturer of that cable that you were using and they said that that cable was only for programming the ECU on the 2500 and 3500 diesel pickups so, what gives?

take a look at this link www.americankeysupply.com/pages/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-chrysler-security-gateway i dont think it matters. only issue may be length of the cable reaching to module however all the rams have it under the dash on the driver side

Talbot_Industries hmm, I don’t know. I’m just repeating what they told me. But I am curious though, how does the cable you used work if it only plugs into one of those modules under the dash when the other cable plugs into both?

As far as I am Concerned I bought the truck its my truck, not the dealerships or manufactures or the banks its mine. And if I want to drive it into a wall and total it, that is on me and no one else. If I want to do a module bypass or module delete so I can reset my tire pressure sensors or my owe repairs. As long as I am not doing any changes that are now illegal (EPA) changes. I should not be controlled by anything or anyone on my owe vehicle. My thoughts on this, I could give three S**ts what the dealer thinks.

Stupid question. I need to take my 2018 ram 1500 back to dealer. I need to remove the security bypass. How does the bipass clip work (the one thatgoes into the green area) to remove the bipass cable that connects . I dont want to break the connector of the bipass cable. I tried pushing the clip down and pulling back and its wedged in there. Maybe im doing it wrong. Any help is appreciated.

njhotroder the clip in the module under the dash youll see a square part of the connector with a tab inside. That tab your going to push towards the body of the plug. So not towards the square prt but towards the rest of the plug. Hope this helps

I’m not sure really what all would have to be taken out if one would have to take their trucks to the dealer for service but, is it really necessary to leave all this stuff plugged in after programming? I have a Limited trim model so uh, there’s not a whole lot of adjusting I need to do other than a few things so, I could probably knock out all that I would need to do in probably an afternoon.

@@billplaisance6387 you would want to take out the bipass cable man. They can put in the computer that u messed with the ecu and warrenty can be voided if u run into a prick service underwritter. Dont risk it. Remove it. Like i did. U have been warned

i believe this one came with my ez link. i actually just swapped over to the other one which doubles as a splitter to free up my obd port. either style works

Where did you order the bypass cable in the video? And do you know if it’s just your vehicle and only need the one plug for the CAN module? I’ve looked at another one for my 18 ram 1500 but it has two of the CAN module plugs

@@Talbot_Industries what was the purpose for yours? Im needing the bypass as I am about to tune my truck. But I talked to Z and they said they don’t recommend using the one you have cause it might not bypass all items needed so they only recommend the module plug that goes behind the radio.

Why are you installing it to stay forever? Just plug one end into the existing OBD and plug the other to your tuner and plug the single thing into the green and tube your truck. Once the tune is on the truck you don’t need to keep this in your truck? It’s only for when you are tuning. Why are you installing this to stay in the truck like all the time? I’m confused? It takes 30 seconds to install it quick and tune the truck and then take it out. That way the dealer would never see it

GR1REAPER... I know it's been awhile since you asked this, but I thought I'd jump in and answer. It is not necessary to keep the bypass cable hooked. It is only needed when making the truck computer changes. This guy is keeping it hooked up in case he wants to make other changes at another time. Nothing more. I am sure he remove it when he is satisfied with all changes or he has to make a service run. Hope this helps.

I purchased the cable from your link. Oups! it does not work with a 5.7 hemi engine. I spent $116.00 for nothing,$ 33.00 for the cable $ 52.00 for shipping $ 18.00 for duty fees. WOW and nothing works. You should take the time to try before you say it works regardless of engine, dont you think ?

I wish this would work for locksmith, can’t even program keys without doing a 12+8 bypass to security module. And when it’s behind the infotainment it’s a just a bitch. Dodge use to be one of the easiest to do, loved getting the calls up 2017 then this shit starts. Fuck you dodge

I am a former locksmith looking to start a mobile unit in town. Seeing these newer Dodge videos 2017+, I won't touch them. Of course with practice and everything I'm sure it's not that bad, but some say you have multiple locations as to where the port needed to tap into could be. And I'm all about getting in and getting out, not hunting around a vehicle for a port. I'll stick with only do 16-17 and down. I realize I'll miss out on some calls but until it's evident that those are the vehicles that I'm missing the most $$ on, I'll say pass and move on to the next job.
