Thelonius Monk! A giant of jazz with the soul of an innocent child. Great take. As usual, the dignity of the original is honored by Joan and these rapidly maturing players. These posts have become sparkling little gems in my everyday life.

Great performance by the band. That is a difficult song to sing but as usual Andrea put her heart and soul into it. Would love to have heard her playing trumpet on this one. A great rendition is the 1956 recording by Chet Baker, or of course, Dexter Gordon from the film.

Nice. Chamorro sets himself a high bar, which he invariably reaches with his top players. Once again I was emotionally impacted by his arrangement.

Not much speaks raw emotion like a Monk tune. When I was young, I was around lots of older musicians who knew Monk, and talked about him, but unfortunately he had pretty much dropped out of the music scene by then. I would have loved to have experienced his presence at some point.

Beautiful singing by Andrea. Every word is clear and strong. Great solos from Joan Chamorro at the close. One of the many great songs on Jazzing 9 Vol 1.

@@chanelops Yes, both with Andrea singing! I can't find a second video of Andrea and the SAJB doing Round Midnight or Round About Midnight. There is another great version on Elia's CD, The Magic of the Violin with Joan Chamorro New Quartet and Scott Hamilton. Carla on the guitar backing up Elia for most of the tune - instrumental.

Great old bluesy number by a great young lady, who's low rich tones really grab me. Same with Alba A on the low tones. Who's the guest Sax player with the glasses???? I'd keep him around, not bad. Young guy on the contrabajo really enjoying the song. Up tempo ending absolutely great! Nice touch whoever thought of it.

Another great one! Two things, please correct your saxophone roster. I know Joana is great but she can't play both alto and tenor simultaneously! Next, it would be interesting to have Andrea and Joana change places--let Joana sing while Andrea plays!

Hmm - I thought I had seen it, but no - apart from Andrea being a "guest star" now, there are obviously enough alto players available, including both Albas. There's one instance of Andrea jumping in with tenor (!) when Elia Bastida soloed on "After You've Gone" (2015).

On an additional note, Andrea played a lot of alto on the second "Magia de la Veu" CD when Rita, Alba and Abril sang - some of their recordings in the Jamboree (2016) are presented here. Alas, Joana was absent.
