The Subaru Outback is already the de facto choice for active, outdoorsy types. To make sure it stays that way Subaru has treated their Outback wagon to a “mid-cycle refresh”. With modest but noteworthy improvements throughout and standard all-wheel drive the Outback puts out a vibe of adventure more effectively than most SUVs. But can the Outback truly replace the traditional SUV? Kelley Blue Book’s Micah Muzio drives the latest Subaru Outback in this video to find out.

I just drove mine home from the dealership with every single option they offer on Saturday.. except the V6 which is not necessary. I love this car, it is my second Black and Tan Outback Limited, and I look forward to being an Outback guy for a very long time. I put 160,000 miles on the other Outback and you’d never know. Very high quality. It truly is a sporty, luxurious vehicle that has more options (Eyesight) than any vehicle that I am aware of.. even more than my father’s new ultra-luxury Mercedes S class. If you’re not sure yet if Outbacks are for you, go drive one! There truly is nothing not to like! Trust me! Oh, and my mother has a 2018 too hers is black on black! And, it’s rated as literally the safest car on the road. Hope any of this helps those still on the fence! Great video too, btw.. I appreciate the review.

I’ve had 3 Subaru’s and currently have an ‘03 Outback LLBean Edition. It is a wonderful car. Subaru’s, as a rule are just beginning to get broken in at around 75K miles and mine currently has 107K original miles. I live in “snow country” in Oregon so the AWD is a blessing but truly prefer 4x4. Car dealers and manufacturers always say that the AWD system just senses when the tires begin to slip and then automatically engage the AWD but I have been driving 4x4 since 1966 ...I can tell when I’m turning into a parking spot in August and all four tires are gripping the pavement, hey! I’m in AWD! It really sucks the gas consumption. I love my car, please don’t misunderstand me. It’s a shame car manufacturers believe the public is too stupid to know how to turn the hubs and put their autos into 4x4 any longer. I’m a grandmother of 10 and closing in on 70...if I can do it...anybody can...just sayin’. Thanks for letting me vent. Loved your video. Victoria Greenroyd

5:16 for some reason everyone seems to get this wrong. That button on the right is "hill hold", not hill descent. Hill descent is always active whenever you engage x-mode (the button on the left.) "Hill hold" is different. It engages the parking brake when the car detects that you come to a stop in a hill in order to prevent the car from rolling backwards. You can stop on a hill and release the brake pedal if you want. Hit the gas and the brake automatically disengage and away you go. I actually don't find it that useful. X-mode/hill descent, on the other hand is kind of awesome.

I feel like this is one vehicle where the manufacturer is listening to feedback from the owners. The things that don’t seem like a big deal when purchasing a vehicle, often can be a big annoyance, read about on the forums. Subaru has addressed these issues each year since 2015. It would be nice to have a bit more bolstering and 8-way power passenger seats. Other than that, this car paired with the 3.6R is a recipe for success.

Can the "fake gear changes" be disabled? Do these fake gears changes do more unnecessary harm and wear to the CVT? Thanks. I wish I could turn backup camera on manually if I shift in neutral and start moving backward, I'm sure sensors tells the cars it is moving backward yet backup camera cannot be used, not even manually, bummer. Why the limitation?

Have a 2017 model. Only thing that I do NOT like: very little power assist in the steering makes it very fatiguing to drive. My wrists and arms ache on longer drives just having to exert so much force in even small steering wheel adjustments. Other than that, nearly my "ideal" vehicle. Just be aware of this when doing a test drive. Supposedly, Subaru has fiddled with the steering on the '18 model. Not sure whether it is easier to steer or not. ???

I think this is my favorite generation of Outback! It looks well sculpted and I love the new grill. I think the 2015-2018 models are kinda awkward looking because of that grill design. The 2010-2014 just look too frumpy. The other generations don't really look that great except for the 90s Outback.

Waiting for them to put that new Turbo 4 in place of the 6 cylinder for better fuel efficiency. They need a refresh of their engine lineup; were it not for the lack of efficient engines, Id be more inclined to trading in for this sooner.

Bought a limited in January and love the car. Was so torn on the 2.5 as we do go through the mountains off and on but while it feels weak compared to my GTI its really not. The CVT just changes how the power feels. Instead of a push into the seat it just keeps going. I have been able to feather close to 40 MPG at 75 MPH on the highway and 30 to 33 in the city. Its my Wifes car so I dont get to test it out much but our first road trip is a few months away so we'll see how it averages out with hills and altitude changes. Not to worried about weight impact up to about 6k feet, 4 adults and a toddler in it was no big deal in DFW. Good review, though some of the goofiness was out of place and forced, other bits were more natural.

I just bought a premium 2.5 a week ago and the power is fine. The CVT is programmed for fuel economy but if you push the pedal down there's power there if you need it. Loving it so far after moving on from my 17 year old Forester.
@Ripskin16
@Ripskin16 6 жыл бұрын
Lol quite the upgrade! I just did a 2000 mile trip in mine from Dallas through Santa Fe to Denver over to Salina and down to Dallas again. The power is there, but the delivery through the CVT to the AWD system is the main difference. Its not about pushing you into your seat its just steady consistent (key word there) power. It is not the fastest off the line but the CVT is not trying to be. So yeah getting up to speed in a short highway on-ramp is a little lack luster but once you are going it has zero issues even with passing. That is not to say it doesnt go, its a very different type of power delivery than a normal car with gears. Manual control was great for holding revs and speed for going up and engine breaking on the down. I missed the punch of my GTI but it was a great road trip and after 18 hours I could get out of the Outback vs groan out of my GTI (not a great long road trip car for tall people lol). Even with all of the stuff we normally take the car did fine. Wind and weather played against our fuel efficiency but 28 to 29 MPG at an average of 80 MPH is great. If we had not been fighting such head winds both directions we could have easily pushed over 30. Great car and very happy with the purchase. Now if they could rework the front so its not such a bug magnet lol!

SS S the key word here is had problems. Not anymore. Problem was solved the moment they started just in case you were living under a rock. Subaru took care of every customer with this issue and even extended the warranty for everyone who bought one of their cars during the affected years.

@SSS-mp8th 6 жыл бұрын
And that may well be the case in this instance but it's something a buyer would like to be aware of. In regards to ringland failure in STI's and spun bearings in WRX's Subaru has said nothing unlike Ford for the RS. You will see reviewers mention reliability when speaking of FCA or Jaguar/LR products but it would be nice to touch on any reliability issues a particular model has had or does have.

I don’t like/need awd, but I like Subaru’s, they’re like 90’s cars where visibility is great. New cars from other brands have horrible visibility.

it's not just the driver side headlight it's all exterior lights. I see more Subaru's than not with plate lights, tail lights, head lights you name it blown out. I Don't understand it but it's something they need to get to the bottom of.

Had this problem recently. Really wouldn’t care if the bulbs weren’t ass to get to. On my 2010 legacy my options are removing the front bumper or going in through the wheel well.

JakeDrives if it's a bulb issue it's not Subarus problem. Fuck people can be so stupid sometimes. The bulbs going out has nothing to do with Subaru. The manufacturer of the bulb is the problem. Is this all you have to complain about. Dam I would be worried if it had other problems in the drivetrain but we are complaining about a dam bulb going out.

most modern cars are like that i don't know what is happening to the engineers who design them cars i just bought 2007 Toyota Camry XLE fully loaded V6 last year. and i was searching for almost a year with unpredictable jobs situations i choose this car as the most affordable and reliable. but Subaru was in my list and Chevy Malibu as well I avoided Subaru made up my mind not buying one just because of this problem the lights problem .. didn't know they were hassle to replace them !! the same go for the Chevy Malibu as well and thats why I avoided this one too.. as for the Camry is only for the whole unit replacement is a hassle tail light or front head light but for the bulbs they are just easy .. i still think car designers and engineers are getting more stupid making things difficult against the consumer like that is just not a good plan !!
