I prefer traditional truck-based SUVs a lot better than crossovers. The reason why is because I love the feeling of driving a truck, being high off the ground and being able to see over pretty much anything. It's such a great feeling

I have a black 4x4 1994 Toyota 4runner with beautiful black rims and slightly bigger tires with a little lift . It won't die I mean it just won't don't matter what I do it will never fail me ! That's the only reason why I never upgraded to a new 4runner yet. Maybe I'll wait a bit 40k for a new 4runner but it is kinda cheap looking interior wise, so hopefully 2020 or something they'll update it.

Vincent D Patrick MacDonald Nothing like that matters when you're on the side of the road like my girlfriends cvt Nissan Rogue. Toyota is the wise one waiting to perfect their products while everyone out there rushes to shove technology crap in their vehicles having to wait for vehicles to get fixed with recall after recall. I have a new 4runner and I just towed my friends jeep as well as my girlfriends rogue to the dealer waiting for it to get fixed. It's nice to have the newest things but not so nice to wait for it getting fixed at the dealer. Just give Toyota time. They keep things simple and will outlast many vehicles out there.

@Beelzebot Well good luck finding a brand new vehicle without any sort of "screen", as while there ARE still some some vehicles on the market without "screens", it's going to become less and less common in the future. With required backup cameras, more consumers wanting the latest tech for the least amount of money possible, and that tech becoming less and less expensive to implement in less expensive vehicles, there won't be very many "screen-less" vehicles on the market in the next few years.

One caveat... I thought I would not find anything negative about my 4runners. I just disc overed that the wiring is composed partly of soy. I had a problem with a rat chewing the wiring in the wiring harness. I need to have a whole new harness replacing where the rat or rats chewed. Who knew? I've had 4runners since 2000. Never knew about the soy. Amazon actually sells moth balls repelling rats and other rodents to place in the wiring harness.

I LOVE how it looks. It doesn't look like all the other generic SUV's you see on the road nowadays, as it doesn't have as much curves. The only thing I don't like about the vehicle is that it's only a 5 speed. Most cars nowadays are a 6 speed.

That thing needs a redesign definitely, cause that's a 2010 design refreshed for the 2014 model year. If they redesign it anytime soon, it would most likely be on a stretched version of TNGA and hopefully body on frame.

Disagree. I have had a 2005 SR5 and put 220k on it. I just bought the 2018 SR5 Premium 4WD w all accessories. I will say that if you look around you will see more 4Runners than almost any other Toyota model (as for SUVs). They know their audience and will update interior features to be more in line with other manufacturers however, the fundamentals of a 4Runner are what make it one of the most sought after SUVs to date...trust me, I have put 400k on several different generations of this very SUV. If you do not drive one or do not prefer this type of SUV it is understandable. Toyota is not setting out to please car review enthusiasts or luxury car seekers with this particular model, they set out to please loyal customers and long time owners. You want luxury, go buy Toyotas Lexus line of vehicles.

I have owned a 1997 4Runner Limited with 250,000 miles on it. I was surprised how the 2018 4 Runner drives and rides the same as my SUV. Toyota needs to update this SUV big time. I am looking to buy a new SUV and even though I love my car i want a modern up to date SUV. This SUV is still built on a truck frame.
@JokerG16
@JokerG16 6 жыл бұрын
dphotos so you want a car-based SUV? I’m confused.
@dphotos007
@dphotos007 6 жыл бұрын
JokerG16 yes I believe the new update 4Runner is going towards and car based frame. I thought the 2018 models would be updated but they are not. I would look at the a new 4Runner on a truck frame if they make improvements in the ride. The 4Runner out now also has a very dated interior. If you compare it to the Kia, Mazda, Lexus, or even the Highlander. It compares to the Honda Pilot’s interior which is dated too. Consumer Reports even gives the 4Runner a mid to low do not buy rating. The ride has the same exact feel as my 1997 model. The SUV only gets high ratings for going off roading and reliability but the mid size SUV market is very competitive so Toyota needs to step up their game on the 4Runner.
@JokerG16
@JokerG16 6 жыл бұрын
dphotos I see what you mean about it being dated, but I think they should keep it at a truck-based SUV and update the interior to be somewhat similar to the Land Cruiser, which is posh. If they make it car-based, they would lose so many buyers.
@dphotos007
@dphotos007 6 жыл бұрын
JokerG16 I understand about the buyer base. I don’t think Toyota is going to keep it on a truck frame to all the reports I read. Maybe they will have two options with the frame? If they do keep the truck frame they will have to address the rock you get when making a turn and they have to address the engine performance which is very under powered right now.
@dancarlton7973
@dancarlton7973 6 жыл бұрын
dphotos, if the 4runner were to be car-based it would lose much of its off-roading capabilities. I prefer that the 4Runner remains truck-based but be just very slightly smaller and come with a lower price. I'd like the 4Runner keep the V6 but to increase the fuel economy somewhat. No turbocharged 4-cyl. engines.

"Cheap feeling controls"... this review, like so many, fails to capture that the 4Runner is designed to be rugged and reliable. They find fault that it lacks all the safety tech that cars and crossovers typically have. Here's the thing... it's not an oversight... it's intentional. This is a vehicle designed for adults who may spend time off road, making all the safety tech a liability. If you want those features, than a Highlander is for you. 4Runnners often exceed the 500,000 mile mark, something most crossovers will never do.
