Just did this on my 21’ tundra. The drain plug magnet had a piece of metal that looked like one of those caps you puncture on a tube of sealant. Odd as heck, but thank god for that magnet.

I don't think the tundra comes with LSD. It uses the brakes to act as an LSD. Good video though. I'll be doing front, rear diff, transfer case and transmission fluid shortly on my 2014 with 75k miles.

I have an 09 i just bought with 190kmiles. I have no service records showing either diff being done and previous owner did not change the fluids. Do tou think going in and changing it now if its possibly the first time its been done could cause me some problems? I face the same issue with changing the transmission fluid. Thanks for a great video.

@ToolDemos
@ToolDemos 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t remember exactly, but it was most of that last container. Sometimes when I’m using that drill pump it will leave a little bit of fluid in the container and I will pour that into the next one so I don’t waste any.

Do you have any experience with the PBT 71196 drill pump. I notice you are using the PBT 71197. It's cheaper (71196) and probably doesn't multi task like the 71197. Thank you in advance. I have learned a lot from your videos. Thanks again.

Yes, Darek. The washers are one-time use. When you torque the plug, it deforms the washer to create a perfect seal.

The Tundra doesn't have a true lsd like many vehicles. For example a honda civic si. The computer uses a combination of power control and individual wheel braking to control slip. Fyi

Hi, does it matter if this oil is made for LS diffs and Toyota asks for LT oil?
@ToolDemos
@ToolDemos 2 жыл бұрын
The LS (limited slip) additive will not adversely affect an open differential. The Toyota LT designation on their oil is just a random name that doesn’t refer to any specific type of differential.

I did mine at 85k and now i am doing it at 155k. mine does tow a 7k camper. i did the transfer case at 85k. The front diff the bolt is rusted. any idea how to get that off. the 10mm hex does not quite fit ?. Mine is a 2008. I need a pump like that. Those manual pump is rough.
@ToolDemos
@ToolDemos 3 жыл бұрын
My recommendation for removing a rusty drain plug is to apply heat with a torch. Once you get it hot you should be able to remove it without too much effort. If your 10 mm socket doesn’t fit because the plug is stripped, I recommend placing the tip of a cold chisel at the 12 o’clock position and tapping it towards the left with a hammer. That should loosen it up enough to remove it with your socket or maybe a pair of pliers. Remember to remove your fill plug before you drain the differential that way you can be sure you will be able to fill it when you are done. I hope this helps. Good luck with your project.

I can’t honestly tell you why Toyota chose the gear oil that they did. Plenty of people have switched to 75w90 and it won’t hurt my feelings if you do it too. As far as super tech, I don’t use it myself, but it’s probably fine.

Why waste new oil flushing a detergent trans fluid when you could flush it with the used oil you just emptied?? Wasted the good oil. And still added trans fluid to new oil. Not a very good process. The tool should have been cleaned after each job.
@ToolDemos
@ToolDemos 2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t know what to use to clean the pump. Whatever I do use would have to be flushed out before I fill a component. If I flushed with a solvent, I don’t want it to lose prime. I guess out of those options, wasting an ounce of new fluid is the choice I went with.
