Took a long (2+ hour) test drive in a Passat GT while I had my GTI in for scheduled maintenance yesterday. Came away very impressed. The 280 HP V6 coupled with the six speed DSG is a joy for someone like me who loves the VW DSG transmission. It's quick off the line and cruises smoothly and fast. Looks might not appeal to those who find the overstyled 1930's Buck Rogers style of the Camry or the design by committee Accord appealing but it's simple, elegant, and coherent. Interior is spacious, open, and with a back seat that adults can sit in for hours. Overall visibility is excellent and the sort of comfortable seats that VW does so well are easy to get used to. The GT lacks some features. No integrated navigation, standard rather than premium sound, and no adaptive cruise control. Still, it has an excellent integration of Android Auto/Apple Carplay, a reasonable stereo, blind spot monitoring and automatic emergency braking. And for those concerned about VW reliability, it has the longest bumper to bumper warranty (6 yr/72,000) that's transferable on resale. But by far the best part is the price. An MSRP of $29,995 is a bargain. Even better, the car can be had for $25,000-$27,000 in the real world. That puts it in the neighborhood of a loaded Corolla or Civic. But be warned. This is a limited edition that's already ceased production and there won't be a 2019 version.

The passat is a low profile and comfortable, not trying to be like any other vehicle.

Really great in depth review and Congratulations on the new car man. I find the GT to be very intriguing and I actually love the sophisticated grown up look. In my opinion, the white is the best color option for the GT because of the contrast that you get with the black bits. Looks awesome. Would like to hear a straight exhaust clip. Looks like you have a go pro. Can you stick it on the rear bumper and take it for a drive?

Problems with mine: 1. squeaky vibration (cabin noise) coming from somewhere in the front of the vehicle. 2. No auto-dimming rear view mirror

You can listen to music without having to use accessory mode. No key needed.

I find it interesting that you've also transitioned from Mazda to VW. Did you drive the new 6? What was your thought process when deciding on the GT? BTW, I also enjoy viewing your mods. Good job!

Pretty car. The car is lowered which looks great but it doesnt not handle sporty..it leans in the turns...I wish it was more sporty handling and steering.

How does yours come with Fender audio? I dont think US version offers that on GT

What kind of oil are you using for this car? I have the exact same passat gt V6 and in the owner's manual says to only use 0W30 synthetic but every place you go even in the dealer they tell you to use 5W40 synthetic.

What size spacers are you using front & back?Is there plenty of fender clearance?

I just don't see the appeal of this car. It's supposed to be sporty, but it's got the same engine as the SEL which is much nicer for almost the same price.

Im not sure if you need a wind cover fr your microphone, or a better external microphone, but the audio is HORRIBLE. Seems like a good interview but I could hardly hear anything, so I couldn't watch the video in its entirety.

Good review. Rattling and squeaking are the problems you will have in a car when you use cheap, hard plastics. Because of Diesel Gate, VW is cost cutting, and blasting all their cars with cheap-hard plastics. This is even trickling down to Audi. Reviewer noted the rattling sound from the rear deck when the subwoofer is booming. Looks like he is stuck with that. VW does the cost cutting where you can't see but can feel.
