The latest BMW X5 is all new from the ground up. With new technology, a new chassis and new looks, is this the new benchmark for premium luxury mid sized SUV's?

I've watched like 20 reviews on this model, and I have to say, your review is the best. Very thorough and informative, and gets to the point. The camera work is awesome too - clearly shows us what you are talking about. Great job!!!! I don't have to watch more reviews just to get all the information that's included in yours.

Superb midsize SUV. The real executive ride that 5 series used to be with a proper straight six as entry level. A vehicle whose base engine should suffice no matter the need. Soft and luxurious inside, best midsize SUVin the world in luxury segment.

Great review. One thing I'll add here, depending on how you option the vehicle, it really feels very different car to car. I got an Exec package X5 in May with the upgraded Merino seats, the open pore wood, and the BW sound system, and it all feels vastly different than sitting in a lightly optioned one. Well worth the price IMO

Great tip. Thanks!
@dailyrant40684 жыл бұрын
While I agree depending on the options it'll change the car dramatically, almost none of the options the OP listed make sense. The only thing worth getting from executive package is the soft close door, which you can get as a standalone option. The options worth getting on top of Merino (which is individual option) if you want MAX comfort are: air suspension ($1K), acoustic window ($650), luxury seating ($1600, includes massaging seats), soft close door ($650 or something)

I agree with Sam Sharma below. You got to try out X5 with smart options. I tried an X5 with M Sport package & huge difference in driving & performance in comparison to lightly optioned non M Sport X5. We also test drove GLE 350 just didn't like the drive but the interior was awesome.

Only disappointing thing is the lack of a rear reclining seat. My 04 Lexus rx 330 had it and I loved it ever since. Sad to not see this Luxury item on standard equipment.

Backward assist is as useful as the night view camera. If I could get into a spot, I will know how to get out of it. Did BMW actually have a focus group to see if any of these expensive technologies work in a real-world environment?

Did you get a chance to drive the hybrid model? Is a 2.0 litre engine sufficient for a vehicle of this size? How far can you drive in electric alone? Great review.
@aidenp57684 жыл бұрын
Gary Sandhu The X5 hybrid is the 45e which is now a 40i engine with an electric engine meaning 6 cylinder with the electric motor almost 400HP, now on paper you tell if that’s not enough.

Love your review but not sure why you're not aware BMW consistently underrates their engine since you're a big fan. This I6 definitely pumps out more than 335 at the crank. Just look at the 0-60. Even if we go with the BMW provided number of 5.2, a 335 hp car weighing 4500 lbs does not go that quick.

Hi there. What is your view on this one against the X7. I live in South Africa, and our distances are quite long between major cities. I may make use of the two back seat when visiting families. But I need more cargo space, comfort, safety and reliability. Can you give your opinion on this?

Michael Lui Tell you what, Toyota put this engine in there Supra, you might say who cares but why would the most reliable car brand go to BMW for an engine. They tested the B58 and it was reliable enough through testing and putting miles down for them to put in the Supra. No KZfaq videos suggest it’s bad engine. 5 years so far with BMW B58 out and not one bad review or complaint about the engine. Your good to go and buy it. If you want to make your BMW extra reliable, there’s a secret and it’s - warning your car up at idle for at least 5 minutes. The engine oil, tech , sensors, cylinders and other electronic parts have a chance to warm up and function. If you getup in go you stress the car because it’s not fully awake.
@Fear.of.the.Dark.5 жыл бұрын
Engine is reliable. Bmw problem is their cooling system is not reliable as they are usually made of plastic and they will probably get damaged by 6 or 7 years of service.

If BMW can make a real off-road like a wrangler they’d be winning big time, no one is taking their brand new X5 off-road. I’m shopping and I’m torn between the S550 or the X5 V8 M Sport.

I say 30 percent of X5s go off road. Not only off road but have to go through deep snow in winters. Most X5s in Russia need off road modes. In Southern U.S floods happen pretty often so 10.3 inches of ground clearance from the X5 would be helpful.

I've driven all three generations extensively. In my opinion, the second gen E70 was the best as far as looks and driving feel, followed by the first gen E53 - but this new X5 is pure technology, and absolutely no road feel. BMW needs to change their slogan of "Ultimate Driving Machine" because they are no longer that great at driving.... just a technology showcase with a prestige brand.
@steveprice6385 жыл бұрын
So have I. The new X5 is really impressive but I would agree that the road 'feel' is missing somewhat, particularly at 80mph plus. I find it tends to drift offline as a result and actually can feel a little disconcerting.
@jfish90145 жыл бұрын
@@steveprice638 crap I totally forgot about the F15 generation - which was our dealership shuttle so I've probably driven that generation the most. I actually liked the F15 - it drove pretty hefty, not as heavy feeling as the E70, and I might actually say I may prefer the F15 feeling over the original E53...
