Billy Goat Jim

4 жыл бұрын

This time round the Jimny heads to Newnes state forest to take on some of the 4wd tracks in the area, and as you'll see we walk away with some panel damage this time round.
Track Coordinates:
Wombat Holes
33°25'43.89"S
150°13'1.01"E
White Beacon Lookout:
33°26'43.19"S
150°14'11.87"E
Unknown Track (drop a comment if you know the name):
33°27'9.71"S
150°13'51.73"E
This area has been devastated by the recent bushfires and the clearing of the vegetation gives you an idea of just how many 4x4 tracks there are in this area and being so close to Sydney it's easy to head out for a day trip.
Enjoy

Thank you Jim. I’ve learnt more from your channel than many of the others combined. I’m also looking at getting rock sliders for my Jimny. I like the ARB sliders but they seem to take up a fair bit of clearance. What are your finalists?
@BillyGoatJim
@BillyGoatJim 4 жыл бұрын
That’s very nice to hear, thank you... I was basically deciding between ARB and building my own. Any slider you choose will take up some clearance but it probably still won’t be the lowest point of the car intern of ramp over angle. Besides if you come down hard like I did or on a fallen tree or something, you would prefer to have your car sitting on sliders than on the body work. The only reason I’m thinking of building my own is that I can beef up the mounting points and also include some square tube directly under the sill, however mounting to the chassis isn’t so easy on the Jimny. So may be forced to go with ARB. I’ve been assured by ARB that it is a proper slider and not just a glorified step, and from the pictures I’ve seen of other people’s install they look quite strong. Hope this helps

What a nice ride Billy Goat Jim! Did you made any upgrade to the low range gears? I feel like 1st Low is still to high for some slow crawl sections and it doesn't hold the car that well when going down either.

Looks amazing! I've so far only put some 50/50 tires on my jimny. I do some driving on some pretty bad tracks on a farm and once it starts raining it will be a serious challenge. (I live in the tropics). I've been thinking of a suspension upgrade but I also daily drive my jimny in the city. Do you think the arb upgrade is comfortable for city driving?
@BillyGoatJim
@BillyGoatJim 4 жыл бұрын
The ARB suspension makes it better on and off road... it takes out the jelly like wobble you get with the original suspension.

Hey mate. Super nice video and cool Jimny! Have you done any thoughts about underbody protection for your Jimny? I’ve had mine for three weeks and I’m not really sure about what parts are necessary to put behind skid plates. I’ve heard that the mounts for the radial arms are weak, but that is about it.

Love your videos, Im waiting for my Jimny arrive, meanwhile im researching accessories and living in NZ so ARB is the goto option. Did you get a lift to fit your tires? Im hesitant to raise it as already tipsy. I used to own a 76 Suzuki LJ in Canada, BC very capable 4x4 and constantly surprised me.
@BillyGoatJim

I have a 2” old man emu kit. Although it’s a little higher now the suspension has made it much more stable as it’s not as jelly like. Hopefully you don’t have to wait too long for your Jimny

@@BillyGoatJim Thanks for the reply, new suspension/lift it is then. How do you find the performance on the motorway after changing the rims & tires? I should be getting my Jimny in 6-7 months hopefully, I'm ok with the wait as it gives me time to sell my old Jeep. Thanks again for your videos, you and Roam are the goto guys for using Jimny's what they are built for.

Is this an auto or manual 'box Jimny and why did you choose the specific box?
@BillyGoatJim
@BillyGoatJim 4 жыл бұрын
This is the manual model, I would have liked an auto but I wasn’t happy with a 4spd gear box on such an underpowered car. Many people are happy with the autos and I haven’t driven one off-road but I am happy with the decision to go manual

@@BillyGoatJim sorry for the ignorance mate & love your vids by the way but does that mean you just stay in first gear most of the time off road? Never driven manual off road. Thanks man!
@BillyGoatJim
@BillyGoatJim 4 жыл бұрын
Most the time I’m between 1st and 2nd gear in 4L if it’s a large hill, or difficult terrain where you want to go nice and slow. When you’re on a dirt road or fire trail, you may be in 4H in 3rd or 4th gear. You drive to the conditions. Think of it as being stuck in traffic, generally you don’t get out of 1st or 2nd gear because you’re not going fast enough

@BillyGoatJim
