Our Training Director, Thomas Heavey, decided to add some excitement to a training exercise. So he put together the our first bracket style Lock Picking Championship. We may have been feeling a little inspiration from March Madness, but our team had a blast. The championship was over 2 weeks with qualifying the first week and the championship the second week.
We built special lock picking stations and had a championship belt for the winner!

I looked up this competition from Lockpicking Lawyer channel video #887 where he said he did win and picked his trophy which was a lock.

I totally agree. And even if they did pick, it was not to be shown. They should have just shown a photo of the guy for two secs. If they provided locks that could be raked in a sec we must really question the skill level of these pickers. I might even declare myself the world champion.

@@BD90.. I mean yeah, but raking isn't really a skilled attack. I mean most locks that are susceptible to raking, can be raked open by just about any idiot. It's like 70% luck to 30% skill. There's A LITTLE technique involved, but there's really only like 4 different ways to try and rake a lock open.....jiggle in place, jiggle pushing in, jiggle pulling out, or do any of those with a rocking motion instead of a jiggle. When your lockpicking technique can be compared to bad sex, that's not a good thing 😉

@@locdocinc That's because he is a stand up guy who wouldn't bash people who pretend to pick locks. I was UN-impressed that nobody actually picked a lock, they just jiggled and raked the pins hoping for LUCK. Not really a skill by any means. Next time use a bump key for Christ sake.

Check out "LockPickingLawyer" channel, I've yet to see him fail to pick a lock. There are thousands of videos. Maybe you'll find the lock you're looking for !

NPC S/N 1579325 that would be a dope competition and each door has a certain time limit so if you don’t open it in the time limit then you don’t get the prize

I'm guessing there is more to this than it appears. My knowledge of lock picking is limited but it seems like a lock picking competition would use locks that require more than just raking to open. I actually searched for locking picking competition to see what was out there and imagined I would find some high level lock picking with really challenging locks... What am I missing? It doesn't seem like all these guys would be so invested in the tournament if it was "easy*" to do pick everything. *easy - relatively speaking so not necessarily easy for someone like me.

Definitely not me... this appears to be a local locksmith company event, not an open lockpicking competition. That said, it’s awesome they are investing in development of a culture of picking rather than drilling. That’s surprisingly rare these days.

A lot of aggressive raking. Most people on here, if not all of them commenting, seem to think that LPL can walk in and SPP any lock in seconds. It truly shows just how little you all know about picking. His videos are entertaining but the amount of editing and the amount of, I hate to call it this but trickery, that goes into a LPL video would blow most of your minds. Hours and hours if not days of picking all come down to the perfect 3-4 minute cut to make it look supernatural. Check out Bosnian Bill videos for something a F load more realistic.

There's only the extremes in audiences, unfortunately. People either disrespect him completely or think he is a real mage, as gullible as they are. LPL is insanely good and much recognized in the community, but the videos are highly produced (not a bad thing!) and scripted (also not a bad thing). You can't make 40 min long videos with intricate details and trial and error and expect to be a far-reaching public-service educational & entertaining channel. People want him to be something that he isn't with tools that are unsuitable for the intended goal. I am a big fan of LPL, but whenever I read unsolicited comments from some random guys (who probably can't even rake a lock) bragging with his (!) wizard-like skills on random channels, disrespecting them, I physically cringe.

Tom gets it. I actually am a locksmith and have been picking locks for 30 years. I think I could hang with the best of them but most of you don't understand the difference between heavily scripted and edited picking vs being at some ladies front door at 11pm in Chicago in the dead of winter and she is standing over you with a crying and screaming baby as you're picking.

@@SPQR_14 he didn't saw the videos with challenges from the senders. He won a $100 with a time of 1:11 and 1 sender got a refund of $75 if LPL open a lock not more than 3mins and something seconds, and he open it like 29secs I think.

Honestly it’s annoying and kind of offensive that so many people are saying that lock picking lawyer can easily beat these people. First of all, you don’t know that second of all even if you did you shouldn’t say that. This competition doesn’t seem to be live so how can you really know if LPL would beat these people unless you watched the competition live and have knowledge of lock picking?
